  1. Ive been using my 199a with my AE-1p for about three weeks now. Ive found the parabolic dffuser that comes with it works quite well (believe it or not)and aiming it at 90 or 75 deg. It's hard to juge in my house though because with all my downlights on full balst, the lighting level is still fairly low. The plus is walls and ceiling are insane asylum white (house is stll "under construction"). Basically, Ive been setting it normally. I'm still playing with it though. When I get home, I'll post a pc or two and you can be the judge. I think the thing is great!
  2. Well I think I did ok with the next roll of film. But no deer and the weather was'nt the best and the leaves were too brown and bla bla bla. Anyway I did get a good walk and some good pics. I really liked this one because the tree looks like its alive and its coming out to grab you.<div>00IiqC-33404984.jpg.4277b84c6dd6688eed728223d5a79c78.jpg</div>
  3. Hey John, Yeh i usually try to go up to my spot a couple of months before and just camp out. Then i hang some old cloths by a tree. Seems to work, they get used to my scent. Too bad my wife hasn't yet. Second photo blunder of the day. I took a bunch of rolls to capture all the beautiful colors and I loaded B&W instead. Bad day altogether. Today it's kind of gloomy, Oh well lession learned.<div>00Igl7-33357584.jpg.1fd53fad86e1fd7dd93f6db86f589848.jpg</div>
  4. Today I got my first (hard) lession in photography. I had some time and went

out walking by my house. There's a trail down by the river that's quite

beautiful especially this time of year. I really got some great shots (read

on). As I was walking, I caugt out of the corner of my eye a 4 pointer (if you

hunt you know the feeling I had. For those of you that don't hunt I'm talking

about a good size buck.) Well, I froze. I mean I was about 10 yards away from

him. Then I saw his girlfriend and daughter. So I slowly backed away. I got

around a bend and hunkerd down. I hung out for about 5 min. That's when they

cam onto the path in clear view. I was maybe about 20 feet at best from them.

I just started clicking away. I'd say I fired of about 15 shots before they

ran off. It felt like his nose was right on the lens. I quickly finished up

the roll with some good shots of the river. I ran home and I was so excited. I

mean it couldn't have got better than this. Then ................

I went to rewind the film and I FORGOT TO LOAD THE BLODDY THING!!!!!!!!!

NO FILM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!! I felt like I just one the

lottery and then lost the ticket. I feel like crap now and I just wanted to

share my story with my friends on the FD forum.

  5. Well I got the flash. From what I read on this site and the mir site and

asking around, I chose the Speedlight 199A. IT'S MASSIVE! But I like the fact

you can angle the head. I blew through a ton of film and got some really good

shots (some bad one's too). Happy Halloween! Boooooo!<div>00IdX9-33274584.thumb.JPG.9e0b790f18b9a47e68b6446a155146b5.JPG</div>

  6. Guys - Thank you for all the good advice. I defo for now want to stay in the FD world. I gadget freek though. So when I was reading what the EOS modles do I started drooling. I also have to answer to my wife. She's wondering why I would spend my money on old technology. My next trip to B&H I am going to grab a wide and a telephoto. BTW got to shoot 3 rolls today 1 with my "point & shoot" and two with the AE-1p - I love my AE-1P! I keep the P&S in the car
  7. Well it's been a few months now since I got my shooter (my nickname for my AE-

1P). Needless to say, I love the thing. I zaped through 20+ rolls of film (I

work two jobs so that's quite a feat for me). I took bad pics and I 've got

some pretty good ones. I think having the AE feature has helped me learn how

to take photos manually (I hope that statement makes sense). I tried to first

guess what my eye sees for light level and set all the stuff (Apature and

shutter speed) and then I set the camera to AE and take the same (or close to

it) picture to compair the results. I've also been reading alot of books and

of course alot of web sites about photography. Which brings me to my question.

So far, besides film, I've only purchased the camera body and a 50mm f/1.8

lens. I want to step it up to the next level and buy a flash, some more

lenses, and a few other accesories (I would really like to get the motor

drive, my little guy moves really fast). My question is, should I stick

with "older equipment" or try using somthing that's at least Y2K complient? I

was thinking about a T90 body at some point. I was even considering going for

the EOS route. (but then I'd leaving my friends in this forum :( ) Long and

short I don't want to waste any money. Otherwise, I'm having a blast!! I've

been trying to go outside on my lunch and snap a few shots (shusshhhhh don't

    tell my boss). Thanks everyone.<div>00IaSs-33195884.jpg.e8300b1bda9d0dc0e21e45b3dd78f465.jpg</div>

  8. As a newbie shutterbug, I say if it's not broke, don't fix it. I learned so much from this site. Much of it from reading this forum. It was a pleasure to come to this forum and see that there is a lot of people still using these cameras. I'm still trying to get a grip on the old technology never mind reading about magapixles and the like. My head would've really exploded! Leave it is. Thats my $0.02
  9. Hi everyone. I just want to thank everyone for your help on this one. I got the secone roll back and NO STREAKS! So, I think, a) it's quite possible I wound the film the wrong way. Also I might of over tightened the film when I loaded which could of caused some stress on the film. b) CVS isn't exactly the place I'd expect to recieve award winning photos from. c) I'm going to B&H tomorrow and have them give it the once over. Not for nothing, the camera is as close to brandie new as you can get. I woul'd bring it back but I'm kind of attachd to it now (I'm serious I even played the serial number in the lottery). d) great excuse to go to B&H I think I'm going to check out Aromat on 18th st as well. (I they sponsor this site). Anyway it was a great learning experience for my first roll. Again thank you all.
  10. Yeh Dave, that's great. Now I'm really interested. I measured the streaks and now I'm leaning tword your theory. The streaks are spaced at regular intervals. I also tried shining my mag light at the rear of the camera. I did this in the broom closet so it was pitch black. I then looked in the VF then straight into the lens. I did it both with the shutter opened and closed. Wiggled the light and everything and I did not see anything. If the foam was bad 1) The streaks wouldn't be equally spaced apart unless sombody purposly indented the foam in that pattern. 2) In my little darkroom test, I didn't see any light from either end. Hummmmmmmmm. So .... I have another roll being developed, see what happens there. I'm also going to try film from another camera. I''m also going to try the fix all of fix all, electrical tape, on the door seams. Being an engineer, little problems like this drive me mad. As you can see I'm defo loosing sleep (actually it's feeding time but I'm thinking about it). Again thanks for all the great feedback.
  11. Thanks everyone for the great advice. This website rocks! Ok I used 200 speed Kodak Gold. As for the developing I went to CVS (Labor Day weekend and they got me photos in a half a day - the photo shop / lab around the corner was closed, sorry lads). I had them also make me a photo CD which comes with a self installed program from Kodak. It kind of made all my photos "graney". I was trying to get around scaning each photo. Looking at the photo in the thread Dave posted I dont think it's the film holes. You can see the streaks better in this photo I'm posting. Yeh I think the camera is going back to B & H. I'm sure it won't be a problem. I have another roll tomorrow so I'll keep you posted. Again thank you everyone<div>00Hu7N-32130984.thumb.JPG.cca0c051819f8c719fd2f6643591e3a4.JPG</div>
  12. I just read a big article about this. I thik it was on www.photonotes.org (If I offended the webmaster by putting up another web site please accept my apologies I won't do it again) I was thinking about this myself (big investment in lenses only to toss them later) They article mentioned that there is a few third party lens adaptors out there and that Canon even produced a few but only to a select few "pro" photographers with some serious telephoto lenses. I believe I read that the diameter of the FD lens is a bit smaller than an EF mount as well as the film plane to lens dimention. Long and short, the people who did this have had mediocre results. Any way the article had some good info. Good luck
  13. WOW Thanks for all the excellent info. Well I got my first rolls back. Some

shots came back ok some not too good. I guess that's to be expected. One thing

I noticed in all the photos is I have light streaks running vertixal in all

the shots. I took some indoor and some outdoor. Should i be using some sort

of "cup" on the lens? Any ideas or pointers? I'm going to try some more shots

    today.<div>00HtdM-32118684.thumb.JPG.1df73f0c31e99eafbfc08ac373f039f8.JPG</div>
