it was just an idea, when I examined the results, I could see that 5d IQ was better at iso 200 or 400,
where d700 starts to lose details on a portrait e.g.
and, no I don't know what a natural density filter is, does it reduce the noise on a portrait ?
-
EXACTLY Michael. Good Point !
"""The 5D is not for everyone. It is certainly a 'featureless' camera by today's standards."
And that is one of the pluses for the 5D in my book. """

I'm a 5D user, I sold my D300 and went back to 5D.
I did not buy a D700 because of the idea that it starts from iso200.

iso 400 photo, untouched JPEG, check the %100 view.
I don't know what someone needs more.
I have a friend who owns a D700, and told me D700 cannot match a 5D at iso 100, 200 or 400..
is it true ?

the iso6400 photo is really awful..no colors at all..just like the EXTRA awful D300 iso6400 photos..

5D is a great camera I think, coupled with the cheap 50mm f/1.8 lens which didnt do anything more than portraits with 30D before. Now the 50mm lens behaves like a real all around lens and I'm so happy with it.
-
I did this before. I had a 30d and lenses like 50mm, 70-210 USM, 17-40L. Reading all this crazy "dpreview" site and some other specifications-crazy-friends, I sold all my stuff and bought a Nikon D300 along with a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, Nikon 50mm, and Sigma 70-200.
Do you know what happened ?
First days, I thought "this is the thing" I like. The camera was fast, robust, nice controls and lcd, all the great stuff a camera can include.
Until I had plenty of pictures with noise at iso200 and 400 I generally use.
And definately I MISSED all the noise-free pictures I took with the 30d.
I tested tested and tested. I talked to other friends who bought the D300. I checked other websites who tested D300 and saw that even a Nikon D200 is a better performer at low ISO settings.
I decided to sell all the stuff I have, and bought a Canon 5D.
Tha classic design with simple controls + a great image sensor.
Now I understand that the fancy stuff is something I really dont want.

If you do these kinds of trips 2-3 times a year, a 5D is bought for something else then. You've gotta buy a Rebel XSI with 12mp and using the crop factor, you'll have a decent telephoto machinery for an incredibly low price.

Great info - Thanx :)

Do you know any second-hand EOS stuff sellers in Hong Kong ?
Also NEW stuff Shops are welcome.
I will travel to Hong Kong for 10 days next week, and if you know any places,
which has at least similar prices to Ebay-Shops, please tell me and I will be
really happy..
Thanx,
regards.

thanx for the answer, actually he did not use any compensation (he alywas use the auto-mode for the moment).
I expected better auto-exposure actually. The scene is tough, right.
-
I'm very unsatisfied with the 30D exposure metering under direct sunshine. I
was in marina, and the photos taken were all the time over-exposed with white
balance mode set to Sunshine, and exposure mode is evaluative(pattern) mode,
camera in Aperture-priority mode. Exposure compensation is right in the middle
if you wonder.Lens is 17-40 L.
However, my friend's nikon d200 was just GREAT under the same conditions and
same modes. His lens was 18-35 ed.
What is it all about ?
-
Thank you for the great answers, and detailed explanations.
The point of mine is, I use a Canon 30d + Canon 17-40L + Helios 50mm f/1.8 + Pentacon 135mm f/2.8 for all my needs, however, I don't have money for setting up flash systems for the moment. I already own these spotlights (generally used for external building ligthing) and I wanted to use them for something.
And after I had this help of ideas, I'll do it and show the results.
Thanx again..

Hi Friends,
I'm an amateur photographer. I want to try out some portrait photography.
However, I don't have any fancy flash systems. I have 3 spotlights (500w each)
with light-yellow color thin-bulbs.
How should I locate these spotlights to get the max out of this material?
Thanx very much,
Alper.

Thank you for the answers first of all.
Yes this is the original picture without any photoshop sharpening or smth like that, taken at JPEG(Large/Fine).
Avtually the baby was not moving when I was taking the picture(at least her face wasn't moving if not hands) and it is 1/320 after all for not-a-moving-face photo.

Canon 5D vs Nikon D700
in Nikon
Posted
I shot Nikon D70 Digital for 2 years.( I kept my Nikon Lenses) Than I shot with Canon 30d(it was my company's) for 2
years.
Than I switched to Nikon D300 since I already had lenses. I used for 2 months. And I saw that it's no match for Canon
in the case of noise and details.
As you see, I had two brands' experiences. I wasnt happy with the muddy pics of D300 actually.
So I was gonna upgrade to D700, however, after making a research, I went to Canon with 5D, to make sure that IQ is
at the top level in the means of noise at low isos and details..
