1.
Thank you For your responses. I didn't know When using 2 cards The camera will only go as fast as its slowest card. We only have CF cards, We have not bought the other type of Card yet. I am learning a lot from this forum.

 2.
We just bought the new Canon EOS 5DS R Camera and Our CF Cards are too slow for it. We use continual shooting mode a lot. We are using it for Nature and scenic mostly and happy with the cropping tight of Animals in the computer ...The Processing in camera is slow. We will be using the Video option some. I know we need The UDMA CF but what Size & Speed? I saw Lexar has various sizes and a speed of 1066 x. Is this a Reliable Brand or does anyone know a better one? This Camera is a 50 Mb size.

 3.
Thanks for your reply ....good question ....well, my Daughter got married last Nov. and some how that lens moved out with her...I didn't have the heart to ask her to trade me back for an old smaller standard zoom lens 28 - 80mm
Now both my husband and I have full frame camera bodies (5D MK 2 & 3 ) and I have a 24 to 105L lens but he doesn't have a standard zoom lens and he does not take care of them well enough to pay for another expensive lens...so That is why I am thinking of getting a replacement 28 to 135mm for under $300. He doesn't use it much any way. We did a niece's wedding this month and he got by with that old 28-80mm and the 75-300 IS mm. Occasionally we do relative weddings for free.
We also have a Canon 75 to 300 Image Stabilizer zoom (black) and He is interested in a White 70 to 200 zoom and the cheaper would be F4 with out IS, But I think IS is needed since he would rather not use a tripod. I can't decide if it is worth getting this lens when he can use the 75 to 300 IS with more zoom. We also have a Canon 500mm IS lens and a Canon 100 to 400 IS (Both white) to share when doing sports or wildlife. We have never considered a non Canon lens...and don't know what is good and what is not out there.
What do you think?

00cn0C-550720784.thumb.jpg.2ba841e57de7ef36ded69426dee82e4a.jpg

 4.
hummm.....Alan, Thanks for the info on Date codes, very good to know & I will save this info ... unfortunately, I don't think It will help me choose which used lens I want from Adorama though, They have several of the same used lens and I thought the serial # would help me choose one.
The lens is pre 2008 and if the code is stamped beside the rear lens element (medal end) I can't tell what year it was from. If it was in the serial # that would have been a help. I didn't choose the Canon Refurbished because it was $100 more and my husband doesn't treat equipment as well as I do so we thought save the $100.
5.
Hi Mark,
Good Question...how did it happen ? We can only guess...we discovered the problem a week after my Hubby used it at a Kids Birthday party in a bike riding type of play park. My husband set it on the end edge of a picnic table, upright in it's original carry bag... when I saw this I rescued It by laying it on it's side away from the edges of the table, protected from a roll.
But, we had 15 grandkids ages 10 and under plus a few of the kid's friends at the party...Hummmm ....an accident waiting to happen? Probably did already and some one picked it up with out telling us about it.
Yes my husband may have tightened it too tight...and the lens has been in many different environments over the last 12 years...
It has been repaired from falling off a tripod carried over my shoulder 2004 (Camera was not attached to tripod properly & Film camera had it's ribbon guts pulled out on impact on the road)... also was cleaned & Adjusted at least one other time in the last 2 years....not for locked up ring though.

00clfx-550481384.jpg.6496c7b595e0917f34caf66a756074f3.jpg

 6.
Hello, anyone out there know if the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Tele zoom lens Has been upgraded sinse 2002 ? Glass & Coatings ? Mine was bought in 2002 and the lock ring is stuck ...I need to know if I should send it in to repair it or should I buy a newer hopefully upgraded version. The new Canon 200 - 400 is out of my price range ($11,000). I also own the 500mm which I love but we need a more light weight portable lens too. I like the zoom on the 100-400. Thanks for your input, Shutterbug78

 7.
We did stay at the Wuksachi lodge in Sequoia National Park and liked it except pulling all our gear and luggage up the hill via steps or trail to our room. Also we did not take time to find our room/building in day light...I strongly recommend finding your room/building in day light!
You must have a reservation to eat dinner in the restaurant (end of Oct 2012) except for Breakfast Buffet and lunch. The Restaurant/Lodge also has a gift shop (open 8am - 8pm) that has lunch foods to go...we bought them after eating breakfast before heading out for the day of photographing. Also have medicine for cold etc... yup.... I am either allergic to pines or I have a cold.
The Tioga Pass was beautifully as is Mono Lake with the salt tufas. We are going to do a sunrise there tomorrow then head back to the Airport Sunday.
Today we arrived 5 min before the closing of Bodie Ghost town...closed at 3pm Nov-2-2012. We drove an half an hour on a rough dirt road paid full price $14. to take a hand full of photos before Security in an annoying white truck and speaker pushes you out of town threatening to issue you a citation if you stop the car to shoot a photo from the car door. How nice. Looks like a great place to go though...I hear that you can enter the buildings too.

 8.
Oh wow what a beautiful image of the cinnamon Bear ! Thanks for the info Leszek and Matthew, it was very helpful. I am not sure what to do if I see a Bear as far as being safe and must say have a healthy fear of them. But I would love to have images like the above one. Hope I can stop the hand shaking from fear enough to take the shot. Better not forget my Tripod :>)

 9.
It will be our first time to visit & photograph the Giant Sequoia Forest. Coming from Central Illinois (Great Fall Color as of Oct 22 2012)
Can any one give us some advise on best lenses to take in the woods...best places to photograph or Must see .... Also the weather the last week of Oct? Fall color?
Advise on where to Stay over nights. Bear Safety? Will we see any wildlife? Thanks.

 10.
Central Illinois our sugar maples were peaked last week in Sept 2012 (in spite of Drout) Still alot of green though. Yellows are real nice now....still alot of green though...as of Oct 3 2012. I imagion Starved Rock in Utica, IL. is going to be nice for the next 2 weeks.

 11.
Hello... Can any one tell me if there is a new "Image recovery software" that can "rescue" formated and then written over images from a SanDisk Extreme 3 Compact flash Card? I understand that it is said that if you format a card and then take more images the newer images write over the older ones thus causing them to be Lost..... I am hoping that some one will figure out how to rescue images lost this way. Any one know any thing?
Thanks.

 12.
It has been my understanding that you lose sharpness with the 2x added to the 100-400 IS lens and It was true with my lens BUT...it already had sharpness issues and so I have not been using the 2x. BUT, now that my lens has been repaired....I will try it again when I have time....I have yet to try the repaired lens out due to the busy holiday. We have fresh snow and I need to track out to the bird feeders and fill them up to get the birds to come back....perhaps tomorrow I will get a chance. We are very cloudy and dreary the past several days....and freezing Temps.

 13.
Thanks you every one...for your input. Well, On Dec. 4th I took Darryl Klein's advise and I sent in my 100-400 IS to http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=OnlineTrackSearchAct And it is already on it's way back....arriving Friday Dec. 18th 09.
On line...they ask you what you think the problem is and via e-mail, they give you a ball park estimate also adding that after repairs are started they may find additional damage and give you another estimate. They quoted $318.00 and stuck to it.
They did not tell me by e-mail what their own thoughts were as to what was wrong with the lens.....I hope I did not pay for them to open the lens and put it back together again for nothing. Perhaps there will be more information in the box it arrives in.
I was told after asking, that there is a 90 day guarantee on the repair.....(I scoured their website and didn't see anything in writing so I emailed and asked.) I can't wait to try it out my old friend.
Craig Meddough suggested trying the 50D's focus micro adjust feature. I must admit, I did not know it had one and I will get out my manual and see what it is all about.

 14.
I use a Canon 50 D 1 year old. I shoot Raw 99.9% of the time. I convert my Raw with the software that came with the camera...Digital Photo Professional updated version 3.7.2.0.
When I open my files in this program it defaults the sharpness to 3 in a scale 1-10 I usually leave it there and after optimizing the image in Adobe Photoshop CS2 I then re-check sharpness on my finished image....usually I do not add more sharpening...it doesn't help it....I tried sharpening it many different ways and settings. I do not think my Camera is set to a sharpen setting unless there is a default....I don't mess with it.
