You owe it to yourself to look at the Canon SX40, CMOS sensor, great low light, high ISO performance, I love mine!

James is right! My vacation lens is a Sigma 18-200 and I see people changing lenses while I keep shooting. With my Sony's 1.5 crop factor the 18-200 is even long enough for bird photos!

The Elph 300 is great! About 200dls.

yuo set up Picasa the way you want to! My new pictures go on top. Web Albums is free, so is photobucket, use them for backup. If you want photo sharing as part of a great community join Pbase.com!

It is a nice picture! A little cropping was right, it did not need that oversharpening!

-

Piknik is now part of Picasa, works great and it is free!

Bruce I had an A720 until I droped it, great camera, the viewfinder is slightly smaller than the image, so what, you are going to select your size, crop, straighten and compose your final image in editing, and you can do that using Picasa wich is free, there are other free editing programs too. I know you don't want to post or print straight from the camera.

Rob you got that right! The SX 20 gets more use than my DSLR because I do most of my shooting on my way to work so the SX 20 and or the SP 560 will stay in the trunk of the car while I am at work. The DSLR Sony A200 is my choice for shooting "expeditions". I am happy to get what I get and regardless of the camera I get many favorable comments; my galleries are on Pbase.

The SX 20 provides great results! Watch out for opinionated people whose hobby is to answer phorum questions regardless of how uninformed they are. Bob's and Les' opinions are the well informed variety!

Amanda, the Canons A1000 and A1100 are excellent and under 150 dls. We have both and would not have any other compacts as our pocket cams. Chek these out http://www.pbase.com/heez10/az_canon_a1000

Picasa has incorporated Picnik into its system, it is still free and it works really well, Piknik offers a whole array of adjustments and effects, I just started using the HDR, it is neat!

-

Make it simple and get great results with Picasa, my favorite system!

Totally agree with Dave! Go with the Canon!!

Looking at the pictures above they could have been taken with a Powershot A1100, quick response and excellent quality, under $200. I would not take my DSLR on a rafting trip!

John provided a clear answer! Sometimes we get to technical we complicate what should be a simple answer...or we are sooooo inteligent we can't understand a simple question!

There are NO tilted lakes! The horizon however could be tilted if it is the side of a hill!

Don't look for "why nots", are there people walking down the street, flowers in the ditches, insects on the flowers, an airplane flies over you? It is a world full of photo opportunities, regardless of what time it is! Take your favorite walkaround lens and you can do it all!

-

Not the same lens but I have a Promaster 70-100, it is a very good lens, so don't let the brand discourage you from buying the lens!

-

Less expensive and less complex than a DSLR are the wonderful superzooms, like the canon SK20, less then 500dls. and loaded with features and 560mm. equivalent zoom in a 35mm camera.

-

Stephen Lewis is right! Forget the snobs and get what you want, work from there!

-

Beware of snob opinions in other forums! You are fine with the cop sensor.

-

It is so easy, download Picassa from google, free, you'll set your aspect ratio (5x7) and when you click on "import" set your pixels (1200x 780) it is a slider that will set the exact numbers for you, when you click OK you'll be on your export files, ready for any website, When you go to a website open "picasa exports" and click on your pictures!

As usual there seems to be a certain snob element participationg in phorums, those who believe any consumer lens is not good, well, I have the Sigmas 18-200 and it could not e a better all-around lense, great results from it and while I keep shooting, others are too busy changing lenses and trying to look impressive in the process. Go with the Nikor 18+200 for her camera, she'll love it.

The new Fuji HS 10 is new great big-zoom camera and it has a very good EVF, it also has an auto sensor that switches the image from the LCD to the EVF as you bring the camera to your eye. thei feature can be turned off if you don't like it, I love it!
