My first attempt at a Strobist-type shot with a self-modded Canon off-
camera flash cord converted to connect with Cat5 cable for a length of
up to 50 feeet in my hands. I also used a reflecting umbrellla, light
stand, and my Canon 40D, Canon 580EX flash, and a Canon 85 F1.8.

I used a self-modded Canon-off camera flash cord for the first time with this image of my trusty and patient tomcat, Tom. My first foray into off-camera flash. Appreciate all the critiques.

Thanks to all who commented. I am sure you know the nervousness that comes with putting your images out for others to see. These are my first real shots in nature and when I took them I brought some into work for co-workers to look at and one girl asked for two of my 8 X10 s and framed them. I can look at them and see so much wrong....but I am getting a good start anyway. The whole post-processing thing is where I am very unsure so will jsut have to dig in and wade thru it all.

My first image for critique. Climbing out a steep trail on Petit
Jean Mountain State Park and looking back down I just loved the mix
of color and light. I am sure composition could be much better.
