I guess I would ask, what is the subject here? If the subject is indeed the prussiker, then I would say a tighter composition with a longer focal length would be more effective (crop). On the other hand, I think the dramatic subject here is the little human being in the big blue vertical crevasse, and your composition does not really do justice to that. Wide angle?
Of course you probably had only one lens and no tripod, and were dangling on a rope yourself, so this is all rather armchair...

I've always had a nagging feeling about this picture, like it was an
opportunity for a perfect photo that I didn't quite execute. I
remember being aware of the dark stuff on the upper right and just
kind of shrugging my shoulders. I don't remember scouting to the
right for a clear view of the same clump without the ledgy crud in the
background. I was at my focal length limit here (1.4 TC on top of the
far end of a 70-210 zoom), so I really couldn't frame any tighter.
Should I crop out the topmost of the two horizontal dark bars on the
upper right? I guess I'm pretty much stuck with the lower one.

An original look at a very mature subject (milford sound) Nice. Confess, you moved those shells around, didn't you.

Really a very nice composition. It is a nice touch that the color and luminosity of the sky matches the rest of the image perfectly.
