I was recently in a similar situation with some sudden interest in my shots and no infrastructure or website to do much about it. I used the interest as inspiration to start building the business I had been thinking about starting. As for pricing, I went with some established online calculators and fielded advice from professional photo friends. Both sources gave me a range of fair prices to offer, of which I took the lower values expecting that the clients might have to deal a little as I set up shop.

I did everything I could to reduce their burden and in return they were more than understanding and very appreciative of the eventual product. Plus, now I have something started that I can build on (shameless plug: http://milisenphotography.yolasite.com). I have no regrets so far.

Great thoughts all around and many thanks for the responses. They replied that they want permission to use the images for the website for now. As for who owns the images (me or the company) I own the copyright of the images.

I took some photos while involved in research at sea for a private organization. An affiliated organization contacted me through the CEO asking how much it would cost to "get copyright per image." To me "copyright" means all rights and I think what they meant was to quote some sort of usage fee. I'd like to remain in good favor with the company but if I can make a few bucks off the transaction, I'd be thrilled. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to figure out a fair price? Thanks for your help.

I haven't seen the tripod in question, but I've never seen a piece of "maintenance free" equipment survive the marine environment for long without at least a daily rinse. If you don't want to rinse it, get something you can afford to break.

Scuba divers use underwater strobes to restore the reds that are lost in the upper 30' of water. If you are only snorkeling, Canon has an underwater setting that restores many of these red hues. The setting is nearly useless below this depth. If you aren't diving, I wouldn't bother with an underwater strobe setup. Do have fun on the Garden Island, it is spectacular.

As an avid diver, David Doubilet makes an obvious choice, however Stan Waterman is another. Stan does more videography, but the places he's been and the experiences he's had certainly make his career remarkable.

All great responses and sound advice. Thanks a bunch. As far as the Ewa Marine housings go, I have found that its not the seal at the opening that is a problem, it is a flawed vent. Both occassions of flooding housings I have seen involved that very mechanism.

Since he's just starting out freediving, 5 meters might just do it. I'll try searching later today for it.

My roommate has a Kodak CX 7525 point and shoot and has recently taken an
interest in freediving with me and my buddies. To my amazement, he approached
me today asking about an underwater housing for his camera, to which my reply
was google. About all we could find were Ewa Marine housings, a brand I have
personally seen destroy two cameras in the past. Ikelite had nothing, as did
Sea and Sea. Does anyone know of any housing for this model?

I was after some stellar shots of a Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle when I looked
down and noticed that the vent to my Ewa Marine housing had opened itself. My
DSC P32 took one final shot of the sky, whimpered a little, then died. So
anyway, I am in the market. I already have a memory stick and a Sony Viao, so
I would love to stick with Sony if I could, but am finding myself limited to
their underwater housing options. I know Ikelite makes some good housings,
but they seem rather big and bulky to be freediving with. The DSC P100 and
P150 seem to fit the bill, but I wanted to see what you all had to say first.

I do most of my shooting while freediving but am finding that 90% of my shots
come out fuzzy from the waves beating me around. Does anyone have any
suggestions for reducing this? I have been having a little success grabbing
onto rocks for support, but I am curious what you guys and gals have to say.
