    MONA DE GIBRALTAR

The exposure and tone are great. The best part is the youngest's stare. I'm a little distracted, however, by the composition. I think a slight shift to the left or a tighter crop would eliminate the dead space on the right and put the focal point off-center. That's just something I would try, but I could be wrong.

It's so much more dynamic than most shots I see here. It's a good pose that really draws the eyes in. The angle, composition, and color are good. I agree with the comment on the foot, although I'm more focused on the lovely posterior.

Speared right through the gut! Sorry for the fish. About the saturation issue: when a file is exported as a JPEG or such and optimized for online-display, color accuracy is the first thing to go. The colors are remapped and minimized to decrease file size. There seems to be as much attention needed to file processing as to image processing, but a nice picture is still a nice picture.
  1. The bird looks like it was grossly underexposed and the levels were raised so high that grain and color artifacts are overpowering. The blacked-out background was rushed and has obscured the edge-detail around the birds head. A warming filter would help with the blue cast and using graduated levels of black around the edges would minimize the loss of detail. Maybe a lighter background would work better and not draw so much attention to the grain.

The blacked-out background seems too unnatural and has obscured edge-detail. Also, the bird is too blurred to be so isolated from it's surroundings; lack of detail in the face and the blurred neck and body are too apparent with the isolation. A blurred natural background will add to the subject's movement and create a nice action shot.

The crop is way too tight. For this kind of image, there needs to be space in front of and above the bird to give the subject somewhere to move. The tight crop gives the impression of a bird suspended in a small box. The image is also very grainy and blurred, and close-ups need sharp detail. I've looked at other photos and see that flash is being used. The motion-blur could be the result of ghosting caused by slow flash sync; the greater the ambient light, the less light the flash puts out and the combination of light sources will cause a slight blur.
  2. This is a mediochre shot with black painted all around the subject, obscuring all feather detail - even the edges have been painted away. This is not use of lighting. It's common to blur or burn out background detail, but this has really interfered with the image's integrity.

Very nice. Its a very soothing, well-composed image. Playing with warming and cooling filters will give it a different feel, although the current color scheme might be the best. Definitely worth hanging on a wall.

It's a good effect - good focus. The people in the foreground and background work, but the building is a little distracting. Lightening or darkening the building, or just cropping some of it out could work better. That's just my opinion - I could be wrong.

It's a marvelous butterfly. Judging by the dark background and flat lighting, I'd say you used a direct flash or ringlight. The detail - patterns, etc. - is great; this is a good picture for identification. Shifting the lightsource to a slight angle would add a little shadow and depth to the image, and using an additional flash to illuminate the background would bring back the natural color of the surroundings - this of course is always a matter of preference.

    Ornamental Cabbage

It's funny - I saw this and thought it was another fractal image trying to be passed off as abstract art. I took a closer look and realized it's cabbage. It goes to show what real creativity will accomplish. Good job.

I like the composition. The line of the root draws your eye to the stump, which really holds the foreground together. The angle lines up the stump with the bluff nicely. It looks like a pleasant place.
