  1. There was a time at Photo.Net, one could see all the For-Sale posts a member had put up for sale.

These days, they are deleted when seller deletes them, and one can not even go back and see what the Ad was!

This is not good particularly when there is a mis-representation in that For-Sale post.

Photo.net should keep the expired/deleted ads for at least 6-12 months. We get to see the user history that way.

And we also can hopefully stop fraud this way.

    Thanks

  2. <p>For rectangular formats, a 6x7 has a definite edge over 6x6. I have used both formats. By my standard, I feel any fine grain film should not be enlarged more than 10x.<br>

I have loved the Mamiya 7. But you have a good DSLR, and considering the ease of use and high resolution, you are not missing much! At least not unless you plan to have your film drum-scanned or with an Imacon. IMHO.</p>

  3. <p>How are you calculating the exposure? Camera spot-meter, or external spot meter or Light meter, or Sunny F rule?<br>

I would not depend on the camera meter. Please shoot something with slide-film (already recommended by Mark Smith, above). That will tell you what is wrong without scanning and quickly.<br>

Secondly do a sanity check on the lens please, with slow shutter speeds, just to see the lens is operating fine. Please also check the lens stops down to the level you want -- though that would be an issue here, as you would have seen overexposed film.<br>

The above shot, leaves against the sky, is not the simplest to make exposure calculations. Please shoot in direct sunlight a gray chart or just some wall or the ocean front.<br>

    Good luck.</p>

  4. <p>What about Phase One, the (new) owners of Leaf? I was hoping they would consider it. In any case, I wonder what happens to support/parts issues for Leaf backs, now that Phase One owns it.<br>

It is sad, we shall be left with effectively only one company providing leaf shutter (not Leaf back) solution in the MF DSLR arena. (Ignoring Mamiya RZ and Fuji 680).</p>

  5. <p>I was unnverved by the prospect of locking up the macro setup on a 503 Hasselblad. Beautiful build. Macro setup is much better handled by a Rollei 6000. My prime interest is macro photography, I feel my Rollei is better than even the DSLRs in terms of its simplicity of use and comfort.<br>

Vijay's comments about the bright 6000 viewfinder: I shall attest to that.<br>

To me, the potential to lock up is a serious issue. Humans make mistakes. Maybe some don't. And this system is unforgiving! There are many threads on this forum about hasselblad lockup.<br>

In the end, let me state, System V is a fine tool. Rollei suits me much better. However, I am supremely capable of taking lousy pictures with the best of cameras.</p>

  6. <p>This thread is a must read for any macro photographer. Joseph good luck on your book. I have learned a lot from your post.<br>

Meanwhile, here is a book I really like:<br>

Macrophotography: Learning from a Master : Ronan Loaec, Gilles Martin<br>

    See <a href="../photography-education-forum/009JS9"> here</a> .</p>

  7. I see a lot of softboxes advertised for Broncolor (and Profoto) etc, from Korea (on ebay). Has anybody used them,

    and would share their experience?

I have always liked Broncolor quality -- simply unrivaled. And wanted to buy a medium size softbox (for Pulso

head) which can also handle modeling lights. Buying new is not an option -- too expensive. And used softboxes are

sometimes iffy, and very few show up on the auction site.

    Any pointers? Thanks.

  8. Greetings.

I am in the market for an easy to use P&S. The attraction of 24mm' equivalent coverage made Samsung NV24HD a

    very likely candidate.

If you have any experience with it, please share. I could not find a single thread here on Photo.net! I have seen

a couple of reviews, which have been mixed.

I am not interested in the expensive models (sigma DP1etc). I have a D-SLR.

    Thanks.

  9. Frank, that is a great deal you got for $1400!! 680IIIS does not have movements. Typically, you want all the movements for landscape photography, else just be happy with a Mamiya 7! I have both the Mamiya 7 and 680.

All the magazines for Model I & II will fit model III.

  10. I use an Imacon scanner, which is certainly better than the garden variety flatbed scanners like 4990-- which also I have used. I scan 6x7 slides with it of course.

In my limited testing, I don't think a 6x7 slide can be beat by the resolution or tonal quality given by a digital camera like 5D. Maybe a 1Ds-III!

I am totally amazed by the digital camera SLRs, don't get me wrong. But under controlled conditions, I think one can see that a print 24"x30" from a 6x7 is better than a 20"x30" print from a 5D.

I am not comparing some random shots. Shoot with a tripod, and with a good fine grain film (100ASA or 50ASA), and compare it to a 5D variety. One thing where a 5D will shine is the very low noise in dark areas--something a film can not beat.
