  1. Eddie Ephraums recomends even higher if you are using VC paper - the reason being the grades are even softer. He goes for 1.6 density for zone VII - nearly a gamma of .8.

I've started doing this for normal, and the filtration is much simpler. There seems to be little downside with modern films, as they are still doing strong at zone 12-13 even with this much gamma! (lots of dynamic range)

  2. I havn't used the 7, but thought about buying it. I have a Fuji GW690, and love it. Very light, great lense. Built for someone with little fingers, but you get used to it. I like to travel with this camera, because it is so light and easy. Sometimes you can't get the shot because it's not wide enough, but with Tmax film, I can always blow up to get a tele. The rangefinder is easy and works well.

I wish I had bought this camera years ago. My bronica sqa system is great, can do everything, etc, but the Fuji is much more fun!

  3. I have a GW690 III. Light, 90mm is OK, and the price is at least rational. It's my travel/backback camera, beats lugging my bag of bricks (bronica) around the world. I may get a GSW sometime also. Think of them as great lenses with a body thrown in for free.
  4. I use TMY with PMK (pyro) developer. The grain is hard to find, even at 16X20. Lots of snap, very very long highlight zone (still going strong at zone 13!!!)

I develop with a JOBO rotary rig - very repeatable.

I think the tempermentality of TMX TMY is mostly folklore - the only think that's tricky is the loading onto reels - the base is very springy.
