1.
Thanks Charles, but I was looking for a simple yes or no answer. I have already said , I don't mind appearing ignorant. If anyone with a little patience would mind replying with simple information , I will appreciate. Ray

2.
I want to download this free software and try focus stacking for macro subjects to get all of the subject in focus. On the Combine ZM download site, it list 3 things needed, one of them being a camera running CHDK.At the risk of appearing ignorant which I don't mind, what the heck is CHDK and does my D200 have it? Thanks, Ray Dove

3. The Wimberly Sidekick attaches to the head, not directly to the tripod, so you can not solve your situation just by using a Sidekick. If you nedd a new head now, you will still need a new head to use the Sidekick. You will need a head with the Arca Swiss type quick release feature. The Sidekick then fits into QR slot and is tightened with knob on side. I use the SK with my Kirk ballhead and mount my 500mm to the SK with the QR plate that I keep attached to the lens. Hope this helps.
4. I recently submitted 4 low res photos to the photo editor of a well known national

magazine for consideration. I did this after first emailing him to inquire of his

interest in them and was told to submit them for consideration. I sent them on

May 19 and have not received any message from him since then. I know photo

editors are busy people and certainly don't want to appear as harrassing. My

question is how long do editors normally wait to make decisions on submissions

and what are the guidelines a photographer should follow after submitting for

consideration? Ray Dove

5. I've had my D200 about 3 weeks and I notice that after each use the camera is

warm to the touch. I also have the D70 and never noticed this with that camera.

Is this normal with the D200 or should I send it back for service or

replacement. I also notice that the camera is really a battery hog as compared

to the D70 but have heard others mention this but not the heating situation.

6. Was at Sanibel last week.Still lots of birds but not as many as before Charlie a couple or three years ago. Most notable were the white pelicans and the spoonbills. Saw more racoons in daylight than I've ever seen before there. The Scrub Jays were still plentiful at Oscar Scherer SP near Venice. There were plenty of birds at the rookery at Venice but they were not flying much the morn I was there, probably because of a cold snap that day. I didn't get to Cape Coral this year but I've always seen burrowing owls there in previous years. Hope this helps. Ray
7. I have used the 500mm F4 P a lot with the D70. I used it for a couple of years before I bought the 500 AFS II and never had any trouble with manual focus or metering. I would think using it with the D50 will be practically the same. I still have the lens if you are interested . Ray Dove
8. I will say ditto to everything Kent has said . I was there in Sept 03 and followed his advise and found everything as he said. I will only add the herd of wild burros(supposedly) that panhandle every vehicle passing through their territory. They lined up across the road to stop our vehicle and then came to the windows for handouts. I don't know if you're supposed to feed them or not, but everyone was doing it.There were a couple of colts with them then and they are very photogenic. I've been out west for the last seven years and next to Yellowstone, the Blackhills area has been my favorite place to photograph. I love it there. Have fun. Ray
9. Thanks Jeff, Gary, Craig, and Michael for your timely advice. I plan now not to take the 500 unless I hear something to the contrary between now and travel time. I forgot to mention that I shoot digital so the 80-400 should give me about 120-600 with the magnification factor.I appreciate your links and your own sites too, great pics by the way. Thanks again. Ray
10. For the people familiar with Yosemite, I will be going to Yosemite the 12th

thru 19th of Sept. I own both a 500mm manual focus Nikon and an 80-400vr. I'm

asking if it would be worth it to pack and carry the 500 on the plane and

through the airports or would the lighter and smaller 80-400VR be sufficient.

I will be carrying the wide angle for landscapes, but I do love to photograph

wildlife. I guess I'm not sure what wildlife is there and how close are they

usually seen. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Ray Dove
