The unfortunate answer is that the Mac folks told it to you straight. You can't get the same smooth transitions through an exported version of Keynote that you see when you're running an actual Keynote presentation.

The good news, however, is that you can get a pretty close approximation.

If you've noticed, when you export a Keynote presentation to Quicktime (which is the stopover for the presentation when you're saving to iDVD), there are frames-per-second choices you can make. These in part determine how your transitions run in the exported presentation.

To get the best quality transitions -- or at least something as close to what you've created in Keynote -- try to keep your transition times in increments, say, of 1 second or 2 seconds, then select those same times in that first dialogue box when you export to iDVD.

    Hope this helps.

I'd been wondering about this as well.

I've noticed similar squishiness with the 80-200 on my D70 and thought it might have something to do with the lens not being DX (as my other lenses are). Your experience on an F100 kills that theory I suppose. At at rate, the play you describe tracks with my own experience and it doesn't feel normal, though the lens works fine as far as I can tell. Maybe this can be parlayed into a reason to trade up to a beefier camera?
