  1. As a client, I'm not going to care whether someone took 2000 pictures and picked the best 200, or only shot 200 perfectly done ones. I'm going to care about the final product!

In medicine, many doctors complain that new technology has reduced the ability of young doctors to diagnose disease based on physical examination alone - 'the art of medicine' has been lost, so they say. However, when I come into the hospital as an emergency, I would definetely want the modern investigations, and the associated increased chance of survival!

  2. Nothing to do with the album, but download Abobe Lightroom - there's a 30 day trial i think - and play around with your favourite pictures... it's much easier and intuitive than photoshop, and you'll get rid of those blue tinges in some of your pictures, and get much better contrast as well. It will make a big difference to your pictures!
Trotzdem danke!

  4. I've been wanting to buy an SB-600 but would be very interested in spending

less money, so I was wondering if the third party TTL capable flashes are any

good? I'm not worried about flash distance, but would like to know what the

other differences are. Anyone able to help me out?

  5. hi,

i have so far always used manual setting on my flash, but am thinking of

getting the SB600 for my Nikon DSLR. Now I'm wondering, in any of its automatic

modes, does the flash recognise when you're bouncing off a wall or ceiling, or

does it assume you're trying to photograph the ceiling?

    Thanks!

  6. LOL! Jeff, thanks for posting that - it made my day! I just had a look at your website, and I think your work is superb... I really loved your composition, and the unique moments you captured! I'll be studying your portfolio in more detail later!!!
  7. Just my 2 cents... I think the photo on the title page looks a bit harsh due to the high contrast b&w and the red. I think i would take the contrast down a level, and maybe reconsider going all b&w.

The other thing was on page 2 and 3 i didn't really like the brown background, especially since the rest of the book uses black background (or background pictures). Black makes your pictures stand out much better, i think.

    Well done otherwise!

  8. first of all, i know nothing about law, so I won't give an opinion about the legal aspects... Just thinking about your situation, i thought of the following points:

    1) Sometimes you agree to a contract and afterwards you regret it because you wish you hadn't spent so much money, or you see a better offer etc. however (at the risk of sounding oldfashioned), you gave your word, so you bit the bullet and make a better decision next time. I think that's integrity.

    2) On the other hand, you're in a painful situation and this is a lot of money for you.

I would suggest to start by deciding that you will show integrity and not try to manipulate your way out of a contract you agreed to, either by threatening bad word of mouth or anything else. But then call your photographer and explain that you know it's non-refundable and you signed that contract, but that this is a lot of money for you, and you were wondering if they might consider helping you out. There have been many suggestions for how they might do this in the thread.

This way, most likely there will be good feelings all around.

  9. I've read responses to many similar threads and i think you can generally divide people into two opinions:

    1) you must never ever shoot a wedding yourself until you have been a second shooter for a more experienced pro

    and

    2) go for it by shooting weddings for free for couples who can't afford a 'real' photographer - just make sure you're absolutely clear with the couple about your lack of experience, and the fact that you can't guarantee the outcome.

I think it probably depends on your personality, which one of these is better for you. I agree that wedding photography takes a lot of skill, hard work and experience. However, if i was a bride with $0 for photography who was going to rely on relatives' snapshots, i would be happy to have (for free) someone dedicated to just taking pictures during the day, even if the pictures were going to be only of point-and-shoot quality - simply because i'll get more of them, and my aunt/uncle/whatever doesn't have to worry and can enjoy themselves. The problem of course is that you probably have higher standards than that for yourself, so you may find doing weddings on your own too stressful without first getting experience. And secondly, if you mess up (or just do a mediocre job), those pictures will still be around under your name a few years down the line when you're relying on your good reputation.... On the other hand, if you have the personality to cope with the pressure, and are willing to take the risk of having bad pictures out in public, then i don't think there is any ethical problem with going for it, provided the b&g know exactly what the deal is (which probably means they wouldn't have had any photographer otherwise).

Just my 2 pennies (from the UK). :-) Don't eat me.

  10. How much do you edit your pictures before you show them as proofs? My packages

include a certain number of pictures that are chosen by the bride and groom and

then edited, but I'm just wondering how much I want to edit the pictures before

I even show them to the B&G... I can't afford to spend hours on this, but at the

same time I like to present my work at its best - i guess i'm a perfectionist!

Any suggestions? Do you just do some batch edits, and if so, what?

    Thanks!
