This shot was taken last night (Sept 12) at 1/60sec, f/5.6, 400iso, using the 30D and 100-400mm L at 400mm. It may be difficult to get the shutter speed fast enough using f/16, unless you have the ISO set at 800-1600+. I find it difficult to get a satisfactory shot using these high ISO's on the 30D due to the resulting noise and grain, maybe the D300 will perform better.

The bush is about 3 feet high. The photo was taken in Bowness Park, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The rose hips ranged from ~1-2cm.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this plant/bush is? I think it may be a rosebush, but I'm not sure.

Walter, what if it's for posting on Photo.net, which is neither commercial or editorial. Does the same rules apply for Canada John?

I was wondering if it was necessary to get a model release from people during street photography. Occasionally I take a look at the photos from the street photography category and I always wonder if it is necessary to obtain model relaeses from each individual in the photos.

If I were you I would ask your friend to loan you the lens for a few days. Then you would be able to take a few dozen photos with it and decide whether or not you like it.

This is a link to a review of a Canon EF 1.4X II Extender and a Canon EF 2X II Extender on a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM. Obviously not the f/4, so maybe not the info you are looking for, but hopefully it may be helpful.
http://www.photo.net/equipment/canon/tc1/

Does the remote shooting feature on the Canon Powershot A640 work with Windows Vista? I used this feature with
Windows XP, however, I cannot get it to work with Vista.

I was just wondering if anyone with this lens or any other quality lens uses a
protective filter (eg: UV, Skylight). I have a Sigma UV filter (Sigma UV - Ultra
low Reflection Multi-Coating), however, I have not used it yet.
Will using such a filter diminish the quality of the photos?
Is it wise to place inferior glass in front of L glass? or is the trade off for
lens protection worth it, even if the possibility of decreased image quality arises?

What aperture are you using to take these photos? Maybe you could try to stop down to increase the depth of field.

Thanks for your responses. I will take the advice and look for a good field guide.

"Folks can always increase the number of anonmynous rates by asking friends to go rate the photo after showing it to them, so that they get more points, but this is better than negatively rating another photographer's image."
Mate rating is just as bad or worse than 3/3 raters.

I don't think there is one. It's more like a wide, gray, never ending thoroughfare.

"Canon's 50mm lenses are a complete mess except for murhaps the 2.5 macro)."
From what I have read on this site, it seems that most people love the Canon 50mm lenses, even the cheaper 50mm F/1.8 II.

It doesn't bother me at all. Try not to scroll down as far :)
