Is anyone using Photomatix, and do you like it better than the CS3 HDR? Is it
worth the investment?
Thanks,

I'm interested in getting a good combo mono light with battery for remote
shots. Very often decaying buildings with no electricity. I currently have an
old Norman system w/ power pack in the studio. Does anyone have a
recommendation for a set up with batteries for portability? Any information
would truly be appreciated.
Thanks,

Question on digital; are you folks finding the work produced by the top line
(D3 or D300) when enlarged with software, is rivaling the quality of medium
format. I am deciding whether to buy another Hasselblad, and scanning negs, or
jumping up to the D3. I like to print up to 20X30. Regularly 16X20. A tough
decision. Please give me your input!
Thanks

I guess I can teach myself. What about scans? What machines are good? Imacon for 5X7? Do I need to send out for drum scans?

I am thinking of purchasing a 5X7 field camera. Over theyears I have used
5mm, medium format and now digital, but I'm interested in going 5X7 for Black
& White, scanning the negs and use PP in photoshop. 2 Questions; is there
much of a learning curve to self teaching myself to use a 5X7 camera?, and is
anyone having great success scanning the negs to digital and enlarging? Any
and all information is most welcome!
Thanks,
Rob

Thanks to all for your replies. I have had several medium format cameras; Hasselblad, Pentax 67II & an RB67. I switched to digital to get away from "wet chemistry". I suppose I could return to film and scan the negs, then work on them in CS3. Anyone here doing that?

Is anyone out there using the D3 for black & white fine art? I'm currently
using the D-200 with satisfactory results, but the FF sensor is really
inviting. I don't know wheather to buy the D-300 or go up to the D3. Any
suggestions? I do not photograph sports. Just fashion, fine art nudes and
tripod mounted still lifes. Any comments welcome.
Thanks,

I need to upgrade my PC. I am not a geek, so please speak English. What would
be the best PC to upgrade to. I run CS3 for retouching. Would a quad core be
the best? No video. No gaming.
I have budgeted 5K if necessary. Please Help. Dell? Best Buy? etc.

What do you reccomend as the best monitor to buy. At least 24", all photo
retouching. No video or gaming. Price not a big obstacle.

I am finally going to start printing my B&W images. 20X30 max. What printer
would you reccomend for the best job?
Thanks,

I am going to be upgrading my current D200 to either the D3 or the D300. Is
the sensor in the D3 better and bigger than the D300? I think they are both
12.5 MP. I shoot only art and no high speed sports. I can afford the D3, but
is the D300 the same without quite as many bells and whistles? If anyone can
give me some insight here I would truly appreciate your comments. Thanks as
always,
Rob O.

I am considering buying an older Nikon 50mm lens for still lifes. I shoot a
D200 body. I notice when browsing, there are AI, AIS, E, D, and other assorted
models. Is the glass comparable on all? Is one model better than another? I
hear this lens has a reputation as being super sharp. Does anyone agree or
disagree. Any suggestions other than the 50mm? I have the 28-70. A great
lens, but I think I will get better sharpness from a prime. Please advise, as
all comments and suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Rob O.

I am about to buy a backup to my Nikon 200D. I am very happy with it, and the
only reason to upgrade would be to increase megapixels, and get full frame
sensor. I hear a lot of talk about both, but do not understand the
advantages. I shoot all art, no sports or action, but like to print large.
Is the more megapixel sensor an advantage over the 10.5 of the D200? Help
please.

I shoot all images in RAW format, and size the images in CS2. Average size is
an 8x12 @300ppi 8 bit.. If I want to increase my sizes to 16x20 or larger,
what is the best way without degrading the quality of the image? All advice
welcome.
Thanks,
Rob

Thanks to all of you for your great responses, yet I still undecided. With the Windows ability, does this mean I can run my current version of CS2 and all my current plugins on the MAC machine?
What is MACOSX & Linux? Are these operating systems, such as Windows?
Thanks again to all of you for your thoughtful answers. Keep the advice coming.

Let me preface this question with, "I am not a computer Geek", but have been
working in PSCS2 for a year.
I currently am using a pc and have never used a MAC. I am contimplating a new
computer, and wondering if I should convert to MAC. I have heard arguments
from both sides. Is there much of a "learning curve" to change to MAC? Will I
have to repay 100% for my PS and plugins? Please help me with this dilemma, as
I cannot decide. Are the graphics on Macs that much better?
I am being told to get an IMAC20 by some. What model MAC is best?, or PC for
that matter.
I now have a PC with Intel4 processor @3ghz w/ 2 gig of ram, but when working
in PS the fan never stops, and if I am running multiple programs it gets slow.
Your advice is most welcome on this subject.
Thanks,
Rob O.

How can I extract a portion of an image to use at other times in other images.
Would someone please outline the steps in Photoshop for this process? Thanks
a lot,
