what did I miss? are we just randomly displaying photos instead of listing them by date now?
-
I have noticed in the last week or so that photos in each catagory are not being displayed by most recent date. You
may scroll down through photos and see new pictures mixed in with yesterday's and a few days ago...If you refresh
you will get a new yet still random order to those photos. Is this in the design, have I missed something or is this a
bug that needs worked out?
-
I also just noticed and want to say thank you. Photo.net is an awesome site!

I have the same situation that Christopher showed you....both on home and work computers (2 different locations)

Here's 3

But if you go to the Critique Forum and click on any photo, they all have a lot of space side to side where there's now a drag bar on the bottom. This is like this for me both on my home and work computers.

Seems with some of the new additions to the site in recent days that there is a
lot of blank space left to right. May need to tighten it up side to side.

The underlying path of this thread it seems is that we should be able to rate a submission how we feel about it or react to it. That I agree to. There are those of us out in Photo.net world that are true amateurs and post our photos here because we enjoy photography and would love to get better. A lot of us may not follow the "masters" to know who Weston or Cartier-Bresson is but every photo may evoke some sort of reaction that we can expound on with a critique or rating here at Photo net. As previously stated, just because it's a "master" does not mean it HAS to be rated high. Art is like beauty, in the eye of the beholder. I enjoy the ratings as quick "praises" of how my photo pleases the viewer. Of course everyone would love a critique, but not everyone has the time to fully explain themselves, so a rating may suffice. I also think that Josh and the admins of Photo net do a pretty good job of eliminating the fly by night ratings of those who abuse the site.

First off, I love the site. Josh and the photo.net gang have created a
fantastic place photograpers can bounce ideas and creations off each other to
learn and more! My question/suggestion is...Is there a thought of adding a
feature that mimicks the comments procedure for ratings of a photo. In other
words, when someone writes a comment/critique it shows up as a new comment on
picture "X". Would it be too much work or such a daunting task to have
something like that available for when someone just goes in and rates a photo.
On our front page we can see the number of rating go up, we can saee how it
changes our Aestethics and/or Originality percentages, but we don't know who or
what picture was affected. You would have to go through every shot you have to
see if someone had viewed that shot and rated it. Might be something that is
too complex at this point to add considering the amount of photographers here
with their portfolios, but just a suggestion.

Well Josh,
I appreciate your taking valuable time to answer my question. I see I am not alone when it comes to this situation. Most of us do take the site seriously and despise the random 3/3's without explanation. I do also think it is nearly impossible to police. I believe I echo the many many thanks that you and the rest of the Photo.net team deserve for running a quality site. Thanks Again!

I put a perspective shot of a guitar in the forum and within minutes I had some
decent ratings. Many were 6/6 and I alas got a dreaded 3/3 and a 3/6. Then,
within a few more minutes nearly all the ratings, especially the good ones
disappeared and I went from 13 ratings (all anonymous) to 3....I don't
understand how?

I notice a lot of the negative responses come from viewers in the United States. As an American I am proud of our freedoms, yet I notice that when it comes to nudity, sexuality and the like, we are backwards in our views. Many other races and countries have a more laid back view of the human form. They praise it as God's work of art. It is not covered, hidden and spoken about in whispers. I tend to think this is a mild photo of a partially clad attractive woman. It does not offend me. In fact I like the photo. Nice work.
