1.
This may be a good place to post my query?
My wife asked me to do something similar at church. It, too, will be an outdoor event. I understand it will be portraits of families, though, so I am concerned about space. Also, the other kicker, it will be late in the evening and being geared for christmas, it will happen in December. In other words, it will be DARK. So I am thinking it is the opposite situation as the original poster who had to fight or control the sun.
My wife suggested an EZ-Up canopy but at 10 ft x 10 ft, or even 12 x 12 I worry about size. Probably ok for individuals but families maybe not. I would probably need more length for a portrait lens and width too, if the family is large.
I also worry about the canopy sides. It should not be open like the original poster. I'm thinking white walls would help bounce light around and make things quite easy?
Has anyone had an experience like this? Any ideas?
I just got 'volunteered' tonight and thankfully I have plenty of time to work this out.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

  2.
Hello to all.

I hope this subject hasn't been covered before.

I am ecstatic because I have finally got the Big Stopper coming my way!!!

I have yet to order the foundation kit, however, or the adapter ring(s). Which brings me to my question. All of my lenses but two take a 77mm filter. The ones which do not are the 70-200 which takes a 67mm and my 100 macro which takes a 58mm filter.

So, I was going to purchase a 77mm adapter (of course) and a 67mm adapter for the 70-200, then maybe a 58mm for my macro. Whew, this is an expensive game we're in isn't it ?

Then I got to thinking. Is there ever a need for filters (including nd grads, solid nd filters, or the Big Stopper) on either the 100 macro or the 70-200 zoom. I obviously want them for my wider lenses but does anyone find a use for them on longer lenses as well ?

Now, if I may bother you with a secondary question or questions. I see that Lee sells an expensive polarizer for the front of the foundation kit. I like polarizers but I've read that some won't use them with wide-angles anyway because they make the sky uneven. Do any of you experience this issue? Do you even both with a polarizer when using grads, etc ? If you do use them, do any of you use a polarizer other than the Lee on the front of the foundation kit ?

I ask this later series of questions because I already own a B + W 77 MM (MC) Kaesemann Circular Polarizing Filter which I love and paid good money for. Would I not be able to use this with the Lee System ? It is only a 77mm filter thread after all. Is there no way to make it work ? Or, again, would it even pay to use one ?

In case it matters, I am using Canon equipment. Specifically the 7D but do plan on purchasing a full frame body in the future. Currently my widest lens is a 17-40.

Thanks, for bearing with me on my long post and I thank everyone in advance for responding. As you can see, I am not well-versed in this filter stuff so, if anyone has any other tips or knowledge on this system or things I should know, please chime in.

  3. I, too, am interested in an answer on Vanguard equipment. Has anyone used or even heard of the Vanguard line of tripods

    and monopods?

I've been wanting a camera support of the 'carbon fiber' variety for a long time but they have always been so expensive.

Well I picked up a Vanguard monopod yesterday, which is carbon fiber, even though I never heard of this brand. I am now

considering trading my aluminum Bogen for a Vanguard carbon fiber tripod. What does everyone think?

  4. There are plenty of posts and opinions galore on tripods (here and elsewhere)

but, what about quick releases? I'm not asking about tripod heads, either, just

the quick release. Does anyone have any experience to share about them? Types,

brands, models you love or despise.

Also, please keep info to stand alone QR's and not heads with the release built

    into them.

  5. I like the Slik professional heads, myself.

I use the Slik SBH Ball Heads and am extremely happy with their build and performance. These heads are part of Slik's professional series. They come in three (3) sizes. The SBH-280, SBH-320, and the SBH-550 the largest of which will carry a load of up to 22 pounds.

Besides being extremely well built and reliable what I really love is their design. They all operate flawlessly with a SINGLE oversized knob. When the head is released, not only does the ball portion of the head move freely, the main body encasing the head can turn on its base for quick and easy movement as well. This design makes it the most easy to use ball head ever! I highly recomend one of these great heads.

Now if I could just find a reliable Quick Release for my heads I'ld be set.

  6. Yup. I contacted the distributer and the heads are the same. The weakness is indeed in the Quick Release. So, I ordered the head without a QR. I am now in the market for a STURDY Quick Release. Any suggestions?

It would be supporting a Konica/Minolta Maxxum 7D with a Sigma 400mm f5.6 being the largest lens I currently use. Sometimes (though rarely) I use a 2X teleconverter with it. Of course, I'm always on the lookout for a longer/faster lens!

  7. According to the thk website the 320 has a max. load of 15.4 lbs. and the 320 DQ has a max load of 10 lbs. listed. This makes me wonder about differences, even though they both look the same in the pics.
  8. Does anyone know about the Slik SBH-320 Ball Head? I am very interested in the

320 but, am somewhat confused. There seems to be a SLIK SBH-320 DQ which is

surprisingly somewhat cheaper. The best I can tell is that they are the same

ball head but, the DQ comes with a quick release. I must be missing something,

though. How can the model featuring the QR be cheaper? Does anyone know if they

are the same head or not? What are the differences?

If one chooses the model with the quick release, where can he locate the QR

    plates, for other equipment?
