1.
Mister Hanz Franzell, I am not the man who don't like "something", let me tell you that YOU are who is criticizing the images of John Nell with a pretentious statement about "ethics" in photography.
John has more than 2400 images posted, most of them with an interesting photographic value, even very good, and you have no one single photo posted supporting your belonging to this site. Of course, this curious detail doesn't mean anything, even you can be Cartier Bresson, but we don't have any proof about that so far.
Believe me if I say you that your case is interesting at all, because you've signed up here exclusively to post this comment about "ethics" on the work of John.
You say: "if you don't like the thread and feel as though it is a waste of time then simply move on - why must you make such a negative post?" Well mister, if you don't like those photographs then don't come to this site to watch. This is your own principle, don't you?.
On the other hand, this forum is destined to express our opinions. This is the mine. Good evening.

  2.
Well colleagues, for sure there are much more interesting and useful topics than this dumb discussion about "ethics" of photographs taken at the beach. However, I will collaborate with this thread.
This case reminds me a certain young man that years ago suddenly become in the Moral Guardian of PN, posting a Red Dot to all those photographs considered indecent by him. Pathetic.
My question is, do we need it? people with these kind of concern don't have another thing to do? For example, instead to write a silly comment about "ethics" I strongly recommend to take a camera showing us what can he do, for sure it is a more constructive activity.

  3.
Right now I do prefer fully manual, even focus, and a good tripod, when I have time enough of course. Otherwise aperture priority and centered auto focus. My toy? Pentax K20D with a prime Pentax 135mm F 2,8 and another prime Pentax Limited 43 mm F1,9. Hard to get good results because my lack of skills (still learning), but when I achieve something it is really great. The 18-55 mm and 70-300 mm zooms almost exclusively for outdoors with day light

  4. Under my point of view my choice could be D80 in first place, but another pals will choose 450D and they will be right too, never mind, I think that you must do your own choice following your own mind, needs and budget. Who could do it better?
  5. Lo siento Hector, recien caigo en la cuenta de que eres espaniol, pues bien, en Europa hay tres o cuatro web sites que venden estas camaras via internet, creo que por 600 o 700 euros tienes una de las dos en 48 horas.
  6. Hector, if the K20D is too expensive for you then I strongly recommend the new K200D, (30% cheaper) with almost the same characteristics exception done with the resolution, 10,1 Mp CMOS sensor. Pentax zoom lenses has good quality, no doubts, but in prime lenses they have several gems, (I have the SMC 43mm F1.9 Limited and it is simply stunning in every senses), about your old Pentax lens don't worry, you can use it with the new Pentax dSRL . They even assure that the stabilization system located in the body allows to use it with every lens, digital or not, Pentax or not.

Do you live in the States? Just type "Pentax K20D, K200D" in your browser and take a look, there are a lot of offers, several under $1.000.

At last, with the K20D and K200D new generation they are breaking the old paradigms of the "untouchables brands" (despite they are one of "The Five" japanese brands), and it is really good, not only for Pentax but even for Canon and Nikon users, because now they are forced to beat this new marks at more reasonable prices in order to compete with the intruder.

Peter Hamm is absolutely right, wonderful times for us, the consumers.

  7. No problem Hector, it's up to you, but, do you know what are we talking about really? Forget all the common cliches and prejudices about Nᄚ1 and Nᄚ2, there is life beyond Canon and Nikon, a good life.

Pentax K20D, 14.6 megapixel CMOS sensor, Shake Reduction compatible with any Pentax lens ever produced (forget the critiques done by "canonists" and "nikonists" about Pentax sake reduction system, too much propaganda isn't good for the stomach), on the other hand Pentax lens (I mean, Asahi) are one of the finest in the market, and the largest variety, you have more than you can imagine, so, compatible with Pentax K, KA, KAF, and KAF2 mount lenses; screw mount lenses, 645, and 67 series lenses with an adaptor.

All weather, water and dust resistant body, dust Reduction and Dust Alert features, from ISO 100 up to ISO 6400 in the Expanded Sensitivity setting,

I don't want be boring, there are more outstanding features, with the price bonus (u$s 1.100 only the body, perhaps less), you must look for an u$s 7.000 camera to find out better definition and general characteristics.

At all, as I told you, it's up to you, for sure your choice will be the best for you and that's enough. Best regards.

  8. No, I don't think his account is closed, he sent me an e-mail telling me that he cannot open his pages and requesting me to try it, of course I did it with the well known result. Curiously I can open some pictures of him where I'd posted comments. It's strange.
  9. From three or four days ago -more or less- I can't open the pages of John Peri,

each time that I try to reach John home page the system tell me "Server Error".

Can you tell me what's going on? Is it just a Server error, or is it a virus in

your system? Please, I wait for your comments. Thank you very much and my best

    regards.

  10. Thank you Charles, I am awared about 3/3,6/6 and 7/7 given by the "bogus" accounts, it happen to me in the past a lot of times. But never in this scale. As I told you during the last week suddenly one of my recent posting lost 2 rating over 12, or other pic lost 4 ratings over 22, and this. So, this is my concern. Anyway, it should be. About the importance of ratings, you're right.
  11. From ten days ago something strange is happening with my ratings. Suddenly my

average fall down because the disappearing of a significative amount of my

highest ratings (AKA 7's and 6's). Indeed I shouldn't care too much about

ratings (despite my wounded ego) but I do prefer to trust in the system. At

last, all of us are posting our pix in order to be known and commented, and this

facts has much more chances to happen when you have more than ten ratings and

more than 5's average. When you're below those levels there are less

possibilities (of course the quality of the photographies is mandatory), then

where is the reason about our participation accepting this conditions. After my

poor statement about my own concept on the matter perhaps someone can give me an

    explanation about this singular phenomena.

  12. Chapeau Laurent, I agree, sometimes we need a shake and sometimes an encouraging "well done" as well. Anyway, I insist, all the mountains of opinions (even opinions of excellent professional photographers) are subjective point of views, of course that the technical facts as focus, framing, light, etc etc are just that. Technical facts. At all, we are here just for learning and fun, even we should pay to be, so, less dramatism and relax.
  13. Well Mario, I hope you understand that my comment isn't an attack to you, but the opposite. I agree with some of your concerns, but in general lines I don't agree with your statements about it. I guess that Jimmy Smith is in the right way.

At all, ratings looks like destinated to feed our egoes. Don't care about that. If you wish to learn and improve just follow your feelings and you'll get best results, or take a look on the pages of the really great photographers, there are a lot in here. Greets.
