My best times doing photography were inside a dark room. The digital generation will never know the pleasure of making a photo from the beginning.... the creation of something yours.

-

Stacy- And how do you scan and print the negatives?

-

Hi
I have a Canon 5D with a 24-105 L and a prime 50mm 1.4. Now i need a wide angle lens for landscaps and street photo.
May you advice me about some lenses. I can't decide myself.
Thanks

So,now the debate is if medium format improve the quality over the digital.......
So i should not move to medium format in a low budget, because my 5D can be equal or superior.
Medium format to improve image quality, only with a dark room and doing it by the analogic way, if not, you must have the best scanner and the best printer to do it and maybe you pass the 5D performance.

I work with photoshop. What is better for B&W PS or LightRoom?

-

Well.....first i want to thanks all of you,for your friendly help and helpful advises.
So i think i will do the following:
1-I'll keep the 5D and try to process the raw files in a better way at Photoshop
2-If i buy a MF it will be a Mamiya 456 1000 S (if possible,with prism an hand grip) with a 80mm lens or 55mm
3-I will use it for landscapes, cityscapes and portrait. (B&W)
4- I will pay for my film to be digitalized by a professional store, saving the scanner money
5- I will print myself, no bigger than A4 and i'll use my photosmart7660 with the B&W ink
Ps- Some one told me that i can use the Mamiya lens with Canon 5D buying a ring adaptator. It's an improvement or not
Please fell free to give me your opinions about this.
Thanks

Hello
There are some opinions about, and i would like you may help me.
What is the best way to make B&W photos with a Canon 5D or other Digital Camera: shoot color (raw) and then process the photo at Photoshop or shoot B&W (raw) and make some adjust improvement at Photoshot?
Thanks

I plan on printing the MF negatives 297 x 420mm (A4) and i can't spend more than Epson V700 cost.

-

Well,i'm not convinced with the B&W results with digital. I'm an all-purpose amateur. I like street photography, landscape, portrait, people expressions, animals, etc and i hate use the flash.
I'm triyng to find a better picture quality than i have with 5D. It's possible?

-

I started with a Canon AE and after that with a Canon Elan. Now i have a Canon 300 D (REbel XT) with a 18-55 Kit lens, a Canon 5D with a 24-105 L and a 50mm 1.4, and i have also a compact Fuji 30 D.
As i'm on a budget, i'm thinking to sell the 5 D and the 50mm 1.4 and buy a Mamiya 654 Pro (the lens, maybe a 80mm 2.8) and a Epson 700V scanner to start my medium format adventure. I don't know if it is the wright way to do it. It's a bad move or not?
I hope you can help me with your advice.....as always!
Thanks.

Thanks for your responses. Pentax only can be the 645 (non E or EII) just the normal model. Mamiya, only the S model or pro model always with prisma and grip. I know the differences between these two cameras, but I would like to know your opinion for the short question i asked before, because i can't decide myself and maybe you can help me in my decision.

Thanks

-

Hi
A short question: Mamiya645 pro (with prism,motor grip,etc) or Pentax 645 (normal) for all-purpose photo,to substitute my Canon 5d.
Thanks to all of you.

"I don't want to break my wallet,so as fast as possible..." meaning: "As fast as possible, for the money i can spend with" .:))
"Plus I'm not sure why you'd want a fast lens for landscapes..."- Mark
Not only for landscapes but for general purpose and as i refuse to use flash....:))

In other words: should i sell my 50mm,for helping to buy the 17-40?

-

It's a good deal,sell the 50mm and buy the 17-40 L

-

I don't want to break my wallet,so as fast as possible. 24mm don't give a dramatic landscape.

Hi,
I have a FF 5D with the 24-105 L and 50mm 1.4. Now i need a wide angle, third part or not, for general purpose: landscape, friend's party, holidays etc. The tests and reviews are not conclusive,so i ask your opinion and help by your experience, not in paper but in the field.
Thanks to all,

50 1.4 & 100 2.8 IS macro. I bought the 50 1.4 last week and i love it and IS is an improve to consider. You will "lost" less pics with IS.

Ok folks! I'm looking for 2400 at ebay! Thanks!

-

I need yyour advice for a printer as good as epson 2400 but spending less money,eh eh. I know its impossible, but something with 2 b&w inks and 3 or more color inks. In other words, a good printer for B&W prints!
Thanks,
P.Riskas

PS. I have the HP 7660. Do you think it makes a good B&W prints?

-

Yes,it's me. All the reviews and forum posts are from 2008, when the Sigma 50mm cames out. One year past i thought it was good to know what experiences owners have to tell us.

-

If you have no chances to send lens for calibration, which is more reliable and suitable on a 5D body? Canon 1.4 or Sigma 1.4?
Even Sigma with a front or back focusing problem making you to use manual focus is better than a Canon 1.4?

-

Since september 2008 there are no 50mm lens opinions! So i ask Canon and Sigma owners to tell us what lens do you prefer and why: Sigma 50mm 1.4 or Canon 50mm 1.4.

The community will thank you
