An angle to think about: Based on what one of the previous posters said about not spending that much money on an impulse buy - what if you were to market to them before they left to go on vacation, as in, make the contacts via the www and set ups times and places, etc to shoot. Many families travel distances and meet other family members for the week or weekend, and setting up a time and place to get that once-a-year portrait taken with their whole clan might be an angle to think about.
Just a thought. I love Maine.

Good luck with your meeting, Dave.

Dave,
You seem to be on the right track. I do interior and exterior work for realtors, painters, etc, and a day rate is usually how I charge. Personally, I think your price is low, especially considering your area, but that's for you to decide. I've always been told I was low, so I started raising my prices slowly in the last year or so, and haven't gotten any objections from any of my clients.
Factor in travel, time shooting, time color correcting and editing, and think about charging a usage fee for use in the magazine. I don't have any experience in usage, that's a question for someone else.
Bottom line, I think if it were me, considering that area, I'd charge somewhere around $1000 a day.
That's just me.
Good luck, and let us know how it all turns out.

I use the 30d with the Canon 10-22 with great results in interiors of homes. It's very wide and sharp as well. I have no experience with the off-brands, but from what I hear, they are almost as good as the 10-22.

Steven,
I own the 30D and the 10-22, and shoot interior architecture for realtors, painters, and other tradesmen.
I've gotten great reviews from the clients i've worked with thus far, and I feel that this lens is the best for the job. I've tried others, the canon is sharp and wide.
It's a little more than you may want to spend. In my view, it's a perfect fit for the job.
Brad.

Greetings all,
I'll be traveling to Germany towards the end of this summer for two weeks for both pleasure and
business. I'll be working during the middle portion of the days, with the mornings and evenings free. I'd
(obviously) like to have my camera with me at all times. I have never been out of the U.S. (with the
exception of a quick jaunt to Victoria, BC) and am unsure of the current state of affairs as far as the
airlines go.
I like to have the most options available to me while I'm there, but would rather not have to bring every
last piece of equipment I own. Here's what I have:
Canon EOS 30d (w/ battery grip, remote release, 2 batteries, 8Gb)
EF-S 10-22 3.5 Lens
50mm 1.8
75-300mm 3.5
35-80 (kit lens)
(24-70 or similar to be purchased between now and then)
Canon EOS Rebel 35mm film camera
w/ above lenses (minus the 10-22)
Quantaray 19-35 el cheapo lens
Lightweight aluminum tripod
Canon P&S 2.1mp digital camera
Minolta SRT201 MF 35mm film camera
w/ assorted primes, 50mm, 28mm, 200mm
Yashica 124-g TLR w/ standard lens
Holga 120n
other assorted 35mm "toy" cameras (plastic body, no frills)
I am definitely going to bring the 30d kit, as well as the lightweight tripod, but what else would you
bring? If this were you, taking into consideration: traveling/carrying, x-raying film vs. ease of digital,
and options once you got there, what would you take?
I'd like the option of taking a camera besides the 30d if there's a real messy situation, i.e.. boating or
something similar. I am interested in taking landscapes, people, architecture, possibly some night
shots.
Where do the airlines stand on everything as of now with international travel? I know my brother went
through london right after the scare over there and couldn't take anything aboard but his passport and
wallet.
Sorry for the long post,
Thanks for reading.

Greetings all,
First of all, I know that the 10-22 is made for the x1.6 crop cameras. I know that all the information about
them says that they cannot be used on FF or 35mm cameras, but...
would my camera explode into a million pieces... or... would I get some vingetting around the edges if
used on a 35mm camera?
Just curious and thinking about it... that's all.. I'm sure I heard somewhere that the lense extends into the
camera a bit more than a non ef-s lens. Does that mean that the mirror would likely hit the back of the ef-
s lense?
Just a snowy friday random thought.
Thanks,
Brad

Try a local print shop. I work at one and we use chipboard for pad backing, shipping, and as
well as plates to hold our pizza sometimes if we're in a pinch. They're very inexpensive, and
already cut to 8.5x11, or 11x17, though you do have to order 500. It's worth a shot.

Hi all,
I've been a lurker here for quite a while. I enjoy the lively discussions that go on here.
I've been shooting homes, both interior and exterior mostly for realtors who are putting sales brochures
together, but also tradesmen who are looking to put together portfolios to show off their work to
perspective clients. Up until now, I've been using my EOS film camera with a 19-35 lens with very good
results and great reviews from clients.
I am planning on upgrading to digital in the next month or so. My income from this side venture does not
warrent a full frame DSLR at this point, nor does the market where I am require medium or large format
options.
The 30D is my favored choice at this point. The question is, which lens or lenses should I make it a priority
to have in my bag? I know that the math is against me when it comes to wide angle lenses and the 1.6
factor, but I will have to live with it for now.
The lenses that I have now are nothing special, 19-35 f3.5-22, and tamron 28-200 f3.5-?.
Regards,
Brad
