  1. When I was using My D-100 with 24/120 VR lens I always set the camera to aperture prefered and set my f-stop wide open. I set the ISO to 800 and never had a noise or a low light problem.I use fine jpg only because raw takes to long to load into a CF card.(small buffer)I use a stroboframe Press-T bracket with a SC-29 TTL Nikon sync cord. It will put the flash 10 inches above the lens to avoid shadows and red-eye. It also flips for verticals. I used an SB-28DX until I bought a SB-800. Both are very good on the D-100. I set the flash to TTL and just point the flash at what I'm shooting. Center weight metering works very well for Me. I now use a D-200 with 18/200 VR lens. The D-200 is much, much better for weddings because of the large buffer and ability the shoot a Raw & a fine jpg at the same time. It also has auto ISO and is just a better feeling camera to hold.Until I got my D-200 I was very happy with the D-100 because I just did not know better usable features existed so I made what I had work for Me. 2. Never had a problem yet with Sandisk cards.

    I have two Ultra-II 1gb's

    two Extreme III 2gb's

    0ne Ultra-II 512 Mb's

    One Ultra-II 256mb's

one old 128 and a 98 also work fine.

Never a problem on My D-100,D-200, 8700 cameras.

  3. David Gionet, When using the SB-600 off the camera as a slave you have to always use channel 3.(Nikon Goof) It will not fire when using other channels. Thy this set-up.

    D-200 commander mode.

    Pop-up flash TTL channel 3

    SB-800 "A" channel 3

    SB-600 "B" channel 3

or You can use the 800 on the camera as the master

Just be sure to set everything to channel 3

  4. David Eicher, I don't know much about the D-50 but I can say that A D-70 or D-200 will work perfect in TTL "I" mode. I hand hold for mostly everything except the group shots and use only the one flash. I never ever ask if a flash is OK to use during a ceramony. I use it anyway. The only time I would not use a flash is if the "BRIDE" requested I not use one. That has never ever happened in 30 years. If a preacher or Priest says not to use one I still just fire away during the ceramony. I have never stopped a wedding because of using the flash. I have been scolded afterwards though, but I had my photographs. I do use a tripod for the group shots because it is easier to position the people with both hands free. I still only use the one flash though. Go to www.photodex.com then click "on line sharing" then a page will open with members name, type in ronnie948 hit go to see a wedding from hell I did. Outside photo's were done with the sun streight overhead, group shots were done with a very mixed ugly lighting consisting of flouresant, sodium vaper, tungston etc.. I could have used a couple more flash heads for this job. The people loved the pictures and even reffered a customer to me to do their wedding.

Read your manual's for the camera and flash and write down notes if you have to.

  5. Hi Jo,

If you are using the SB-600 off the camera make sure you are using channel 3.

Camera pop-up (Commander Mode) Channel 3 TTL

    SB-600 A Channel 3

Only a Nikon D-200 or D70,D70.s will allow this function. If you do not have one of these cameras you need a SB-800 or MU-800 to control the wireless from the camera,

The Default setting for the SB-600 is channel 3 and that is what you will have to use for it to work.

  6. For doing weddings I use one SB-800 in TTL on a press-T bracket attached with a SC-29 TTL sync cord. If the church is fairly well lit I can shoot at 1/60th but if they turn the lights down I shoot at 1/30th with my D200 and 18/200 VR lens. The VR allows perfect photos at 1/30th every time.I use aperture prefered and set the F-stop at 4.5 and use auto ISO.

I never had to use anything else for any of the weddings I do.

If I do a portrait and decide to use two speedlights I set My D200 to commander mode: Channel 3

    Pop Up flash to TTL

    SB-800 to A Channel 3

    SB-600 to B Channel 3

When using a SB-600 always use channel 3 (Nikon Fluke) It is the default channel for the SB-600

If using all SB-800's you can use any channel (Default is channel 1 for the 800's)

You can use as many speedlights as you can afford to buy and they are a great way to add light when needed.

But if using a mix of 800's & 600's always just use channel 3 and you will not have any problems.

  7. I keep my sharpening turned OFF.

WB is always usualy set to AUTO.

ISO is always set to AUTO.

Color is set to Adobe 1998 RGB

I mostly just shoot hi jpg but doing a wedding I will use Raw + Jpg Hi for the actual ceramony and wedding party pictures. I keep the raw files saved by their selfs just in case of any problems with the exposure or a fluke with the jpg.

D-200 is excellent just for those features for doing weddings and big party type events.

  8. I just did a wedding in a church where they turned the lights down to look like candles. At the rehearsal the lights were on and pretty nice. I even asked if they were to be left on and was told yes. so when the ceramony was about to start and they turned the lights down I was blindsided and Had to react very fast to get the pictures. I turned My Iso on My D200 to 1000 and went to spot meter and Aperture prefered and set my F-stop to 3.5 and made sure My VR was turned on with the 18/200 lens. I set the SB-800 flash to fire at 1/30th and the photographs came out perfect. You can never ever depend on what is going to happen at a wedding so you always have to be prepared for anything. I never ask if I can use a flash while shooting the ceramony so I can't be told not to. I just go ahead and use it. I have been scolded by the priest or a pasture after the wedding was over but I had my pictures so it did not matter much to me if they hollerd or not.<div>00Gx70-30611784.jpg.ca0d1007822e2dd64525544bf7601ef1.jpg</div>
