I love all of your stills and macros because they are so clean and composed flawlessly, but I love this one because of the feeling it radiates. The silhouettes are lovely and the light window draws you into them. Very nice!

I love portraits of children, so when I saw this on the first page, I thought I'd take a look. She's a lovely little girl with beautiful eyes, but something doesn't look right to me. I've been in places where little ones are dirty with mussed up hair, but looking closely, she doesn't look dirty or deprived. At a closer look, she doesn't even look sad to me. She may be annoyed or just bored with having her photo taken. So, I was relieved to read your comment, Chester, that she is "a very gentle, quiet, self content and normally smiling child." I feel confused when I look at this photo because she's represeting something that she's not. The reason I like taking photos of children so much is because they usually don't know how to disguise their feelings or to hide their natures - they are who they are. Because of the hair, possibly the lighting, the photo is saying something that her expression isn't and that's why it makes me uncomfortable. Still a lovely photo, but I'd really like to see one of her represented as she really is and what a masterpiece that would be!

That's funny, I love a really shallow depth of field! This is lovely. The colors run well together and I'm drawn to her eyes which, in my humble opinion, is the best place to see one's character. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for your comments on my page. As I looked through your portfolio, I couldn't help but stop on this photo. She is darling. The lighting is beautiful and the contrast not so sharp that is detracts from her playful eyes. I generally don't have busy prints in my portraits, but I love her dress in this. You've caught a lovely expression here - and it makes me smile and want to know her. Thanks for sharing!

Tiffany - I am loving the affect you've achieved here. I get so stuck in clear, crisp portraits and it's hard for me to deviate and experiment. I absolutely love this and it gives me motivation to try something new. I really like the grain both in this photo and the other of this model. The highlights on her skin are really beautiful and it reminds me of an old silver print. I also like the pose. I want to congratulate you on this nude. I think it's really hard to capture the beauty of a woman's lines and still keep the photo modest. You've done a wonderful job! Thanks for sharing.
  1. Mike - fabulous. For some silly reason, I thought you were a digital man. I think I assume each person with photographs too beautiful to be real has to be using a digital camera and manipulating them some way. This is only because I can't photograph landscapes to save my life and don't know how you and others like you do it so incredibly. That sounds really pompous on my part - if I can't do it, nobody can! But, it's true nonetheless. I'm excited to comment on the road - ok, not so much the road, but the yellow lines. Of course the road draws us in, but the yellow lines add a beautiful contrast to the blue sky. This could be a textbook example of contrasting colors for Photo 101. It adds so much to the photo. I'm impressed that the road seems a neutral gray. So many times, the pavement will have a blue hue because of the reflections of the sky, but this doesn't and I like it. Telling you that I'm not very observant might just cancel out all the good I'm trying to do, but I didn't even notice the road sign until I read it in one of the comments above. Now I'm bugged I read the comments!! I also love the red on the mountain in the center. The colors here are fabulous. I don't get caught up much in the meaning behind the heavens verses the earth or nature verses creations of man; I just like taking in beautiful photographs and this is one of those photographs I could absorb all day! Beautiful work Mike.
