1.
I charge everyone(friends) a sitting fee and let them know up front in case they dont order or order much, I am not in the hole for everything . If I dont then my phone will ring off the wall and everyone will want my work for free. Even semi close family, cousins etc may get a free sitting fee but I still charge full price on prints. I simply cant do everything for free or discounted because I know someone. I would spend my whole life fulfilling favors and never be able to earn a living.

2. I just did switch to the D300 from the D200. I never complained about the 200 and never will, it is a beast that has served me well and will continue to (as a back up). The extra frame per second actually makes a difference in sports shots, also the images are basically ready out of the camera. I used to adjust most of my D200 shots with contrast and exposure before saving. With the D300, I look at them and say"looks good to me" and move on. High ISO is a nice bonus as well. You still have to be careful not to trust it too much or let it get too high, because the camera is not a miracle worker. Finally, I wont shoot much anymore with the 200 because the 300 is clearly better. Jim
3. I didnt really want the pumped up saturation as I was shooting a couples engagement photos. I assumed that switching back to NEF would cancel any in camera JPG settings, but I saw that my NEF images were very vivid. I will say though, in other cameras such as the D200, a pumped up saturation in camera would make the photos look almost cartoonish. But on the 300, they were still beautiful, just not what I was expecting to see. I also have noticed that usually the images are ready to go out of camera with most not needing any adjustments such as exposure or contrast. That is a GREAT benefit of this camera and I am loving it more and more every day.
4. Who cares about side by side tests. If the camera suits your needs and you are thrilled with your images as I am, keep your camera. I had a D70 and upgraded to D200. I now hate the D70 becasue the 200 just flows better and faster. It is much easier to use and so much faster from Frames and adjustments. I will buy a d300 because I need better ISO performance in low light situations. I have seen great images with a D70 and have taken plenty. Just for me, it is now like a toy in my hands and the D200 is a powerful tool. Just My opinion.
5. I have been a trial member here for a while and I see a huge difference in the

ratings and critiques between this site and photosig. PS really gets after you

to tell you what you made a mistake with and how to improve the shot. On this

site, basicaly everyone is slapping eachother on the back for average and even

poor shots. This is not to say that the photography on this site is not

phenominal. I have seen some amazing photography here. I was just wondering if

the crits here are meant to help you improve, or just a Blog type set up to

tell eachother you like their work. I rarely if ever see someone say, "This is

not good, you need to try again."

No right or wrong here, just curious.

Thanks
