Yes, the star ratings show up in both programs. With the labels, it's best to change the
colors/meanings in PM to match those in Bridge (i.e., green = trash me) to avoid confusion.
You also need the latest version of PM to make this work.

You could have a look at Mediadex. It's an offshoot of Cumulus aimed more at the individual
user.

Lars: I got an e-mail encouraging me to download the free upgrade (as a current license
owner) from iView 3 to Microsoft Expression Media. I haven't seen/heard anything about $99.
Maybe that's the cost to upgrade from version 2 of IVMP? Many users have downloaded/
installed Expression and are not happy with it. It seems they've only added the MS logo and
some ugly new icons. I think they even removed a feature or two - instead of adding
anything.
-
If you're on a Mac, there is no difference between the products - except they screwed up the
interface and added the MS logo. That's why the "upgrade" is free to current owners. I'm
trialing Extensis Portfolio right now, although I may keep using iView (pre-Microsoft) until it
stops working (or something better comes along).

Have you upgraded the firmware for your D200? I remember several people reporting that the
upgrade corrected their AF problems with Sigma lenses.

If you're shooting raw, those in-camera settings ("Adobe RGB, with contrast, saturation, and
sharpening all on low") don't mean much UNLESS you're using the Nikon software to convert
the files. ACR and the other third-party converters are pretty much limited to reading the as-
shot white balance.

There's a promotion code you can enter that will save you $30. The code is macworld07. Just
enter it during the transaction at the Adobe Store. With the code, the cost is $169.15 for the
download version. Factor in shipping if you want the box.

I can't recall for sure, but it may be that your version of ACR isn't compatible with the D200.
If that's the case (and I believe it is) you would need to upgrade to CS2 to use ACR on your
D200 NEFs. You only need to install the Nikon software that came with the camera if you plan
to use it. I leave it in the box.

>You need to either export the image, or you need to note its folder location and manually
navigate the external processor to that folder.<
An easier option is to right-click the file in LR and select "Show in Finder," then open it with
your converter of choice.
-
Try Window>Reset Pallet Location and see if that gives you the Edit List back.

I had read that the new firmware fixes AF problems with Sigma lenses. Having upgraded my firmware last week, that does seem to be the case. My Sigma 70-200 focusing issues appear to have been corrected.

Photo Mechanic is lightning fast. There's a free trial available for download.

I'm pretty sure you can just use DNG Converter to get your files into a format that current/earlier versions of ACR can read.

From what I've read on the Adobe forums, color management in Bridge is not working. I
believe Adobe is aware of this. Hopefully it will be fixed in another update, or at least when
CS3 comes out. Here's a link to one of the discussions: http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-

NX keeps eating my embedded IPTC data when I edit/save NEFs. Is there a workaround for this, aside from
using another converter? I'm surprised there aren't many complaints/reports out there about it. Thanks.

Bibble Pro from Bibble Labs.

They're one and the same. You might check out BH Photo's site. That's where I bought mine.

By NC, I assume you mean Nikon Capture (the memory hog). What kind of performance are
you experiencing when running that app on your G5? Are you running NC and PS at the same
time? As has been noted with the PS scratch disk, you should also put NC's temporary files on
another drive. You should also try repairing disk permissions via Disk Utility, a process
regarded by many in the Mac world as routine maintenance.

The Eye One Display 2 from Gretag Macbeth/Pantone is another consideration, and it can be
had for less than $250. Seems to get better reviews from users, at least from what I've read.
I'm new to calibration myself but, from my experience, setting the contrast is part of the
process.

If you're using Macs, the professional equivalent of iPhoto is Aperture. You need a good bit of
horsepower to run it smoothly, though. LR is similar to Aperture and will run on lesser
hardware.
If you're talking more than just digital images, iView would've gotten most of the votes in the
past. It's a great program for managing all digital files but, as Ellis mentioned, it was bought
out by MS. Extensis Portfolio is probably the next best thing if, like me, you're not to sure
about Microsoft's commitment to Mac support.
