The seller responded asking me what I would like him to do. I'm going to take it to a Nikon tech on Monday and get a quote. If it can be fixed for a relatively low amount I'm going to take that route.
The lens itself appears to never have been used. The body is free from scratches and any ware marks. There also appears to be some dust or possibly mold inside the lens =\ But I'm sure that can be cleaned. The test shots I took were very sharp and I'm impressed.

Thanks for the feedback guys. The lens goes from infinity to just above .5 meters which is the top half of the focus area. I do have the afd version so I'm still thinking it's the switch. When I focus close the lens does not extend that far. I've tried moving the switch in every way possible it slides fine but there is no difference. Now I just need the seller to respond to the e-mail.

Thanks Anthony, I'll give them a call. This really bums me out.

Does anyone know what repairing a lenses would cost?

Bought it off ebay =\ it's definatly the limit/full selector, its stuck on the infinity to .5 I can get it to go to full.

Are there any tricks involving the switch that might free it up?
-
Well thats not good, the switch doesn't seem to do anything.

It almost seems like the focus is limited.

I recently purchased a micro nikkor 105mm af lens. It was bought used but there
isn't a single mark on it and the glass is perfect. I just noticed that the
focus ring does not seem to move through the full range. It appears to go from
infinity to 1 3/4 feet. The numbers continue to the right but i can't seem to
bring the focus in any more. Any ideas?

I had a similar experience. When I first got into photography I purchased some lens and a camera from a similar site. They called me and talked me into upgrades and stated that the camera battery was a $350 dollar purchase. At the time I didn't know any better and accepted it.
I began to get a worried feeling and called to cancel my order. They tried to talk me out of it. I panicked and called my bank. Stupid me used a atm card instead of a credit card. The bank couldn't do much about charges but the guy on the phone put my card out as stolen and canceled the account.
It turns out that I gave the camera company the wrong card number on accident and they had tried several times to run it.
I got lucky and learned a lesson.

I'll look into the tamron. Thanks for the info guys.

kenrockwel.com says it does but I'd really like an outside verification. Anyone know if it'll work?

I recently picked up a nikon 105mm AF Micro lens and was wondering if the tc-201
teleconverter would work. From what I've read the tc-200 will not allow AF or
any metering. Will this be an issue with the d70? I know that when I use my 50mm
1.8 and do not have the aperture setting on auto the d70 has an error EE is
displayed on the info screen.
Thanks for the info.
