In this image I find an rich blend of subtle tones and gradations

moving on top of strong contrasts.

The simplicity of the image lets one wander through it and balance the

different shapes and tones in any number of new ways creating a new

visual impression while maintaining the overall mood and integrity of

the original.

This image was made when the building was undergoing renovations.

While I was exploring I came upon this back staircase with the

sunlight streaming through it. I set up and shot a polaroid. While I

was admiring the test shot I looked up and noticed that the dust

streaming through the sunlight was disappearing. I quickly loaded a

filmholder and made an exposure just in time to catch the last of

settling plaster dust from the workers knocking down a wall.
