If I get a 120J TTL but have no intention of using TTL, can I replace the foot
with 'Sunpak STD-1D Standard Interface Module' for a standard shoe? My
foundering research makes this seem so but I figured Id ask before going ahead
with flash and module replacement. Im basically trying to find one more to
have as a spare and it seems the TTL's come up a bit more often for sale.
Thanks!

Interesting, never noticed that about P mode before (I don't think I've ever put one of my cameras in P). My 30d goes to f/16@250 which I think is the minimum for that lens.

Well with ebay triggers being cheap they are worth thinking about to use while you save for those pocket wizards. I know the battery is a 12v, but i've not actually tested the voltage when it fires. I've been using the 16 channel (not the hotshoe type) units for my off camera lighting on a canon 350D/30D and they have worked pretty well for what I do.
For a whopping $100 for transmitter/3 receivers and some optical slaves even if I do get some skyports or pocketwizards in the future I will consider it well spent as i've learned a lot in the past few months with the flexibility they provide.

Thanks all, I didn't get manuals with these, I should have said that previously. I'll look int getting the packs re-celled, I see new ones cost about 70-80 dollars. I got a good deal on the units+battery packs so it wont hurt too much to get the batteries replaced.

Hi,
I've been a member/user of this site for ages, but mostly lurk and read. This
(and other) sites have been very helpful to me, so I just want to say thanks to
everyone. Anyhow, on with my question.
I recently got 2 sunpak 120's + TRII's fairly cheap. I'm just wondering what
recycle time with the battery packs should be. One recycles after a full power
flash in about 3 seconds, the other about 9. I'm guessing I just need new
battery packs, but should I replace them both? I think I've seen more 120J
posts here than anywhere else in my hunting for information on these units over
the past, so Im hoping someone can help me out.
Thanks.

Another vote for the amvona umbrellas. They are great for (in my case) a learning amateur on a budget.

You need the 20D driver if its not loaded. If you are using windows its easy to check if you have the driver loaded, connect the camera and check device manager for a device with a ?. The driver can be had from the CD (though I forget where) or canons site.
