  1. Hello Patrick,

hmmm... I have heard of such external apertures, but have never seen one. I could not find an image through Google - maybe I am using wrong keywords... if you have an image of such aperture, plese post it here, or give me a link, just to get the basic idea - as they say: "an image is worth a thousand words" :-)

    Regards!

  2. Hello there,

I was searching, but I could not find information - I need a converting ring

from Kiev88 (a three-way thread) to Exacta Varex mount. Unfortunately I could

not find such a thing. However, a guy proposed to sell me a Hasselblad to

Exacta mount adapter ring. Would this adapter ring do the trick (I used to have

a Kiev88, and still have a couple of lens for it and I intend to use with a

macro-bellows to compensate the difference between the focal lengths)

    Thanks is advance! Regards!

  3. Thank you very much, I have some old bellows for Exacta and I have a converting ring, so I can screw it on the Olympus body. Unfortunately I do not have a ring flash, so I guess I will have to stick to available light, at least, this lens is fast... :-) maybe I will show test results in a few days if job does not get me too busy, thanks again! Regards!
  4. Hello,

A friend of mine gave me a Kiptaron 50/1.3 lens. The lens has no thread for

mounting on a body, nor it has a diphragm. It does not have a filter thread

either, on the other hand it has a built-in hood, so I guess it was made for

some sort of projection machine. I have tried it this morning with some plants

in the garden - here are the full size images (Warning - each file is about

2MB). The photoes have been taken using a Olympus E300 Revolt Body. The images

have only been converted from RAW using the defaults - no further processing

has been applied. The lens has a rather long body, so there is no way of

getting focus at distances greater than 10cm (approximately). The questions is -

is this lens worth for a macro lens - is the picture I get through it good

enough for quality macro photographs? If so, I will start searching for a way

to attach it to the body permanently - now the DOF is so shallow that getting a

good focus is a real problem, especially (like these photos were taken) with

    handheld camera...

  6. Hello,

I am making plans of building a couple of ringlights for indoor usage, and

there I came upon series of questions, that I cannot find the answers to:

I would like to shoot some portraits, but I intend to use quite wide-open

diaphragm - something like 1.4 or 1.8 (to keep very shallow DOF), which would

basically mean quite low light (at 100 ISO). I intend to use a couple of dozens

of small tungsten bulbs (instead of flash) and make a ringlights with

diffusors. Just to make a notice - I have a four other lamps which I use to

light up the background or use as a contra-lighting - the ringlight is about to

be used as main source of light for the portraits, but I have other means of

lighting up parts of the face (and/or body) if necessary).

    Now the questions themselves:

    1. What should the diameter of the ring be? what are the cons and pros of small

ring and large ring and is there some sort of dependence between the size of

the object I intend to photograph and the size of the ringlight?

    2. Is there a way to dim some parts of the ring without changing the color

    temperature of the light?

    3. Would it be better if the bulbs face the model/object (with a diffusor) or I

would probably get better results with a ring reflector and bulbs turned

    towards it?

    Thanks in advance! Regards!

  7. Well, thanks for the replys. I do have an Exacta to 4/3 adapter, also I have a M42 to 4/3 and Nikon F to 4/3 adapters - custom built (they were not very expensive anyway). Light metering is working pretty well, but there is only Manual focus. As I have written above - in one of the Russian forums that I follow, there was a posting that said "Focus confirmation works on E-300/E-500, but only with the original OM to 4/3 adapter". which means the adapter itself must short-circuit some of the contacts on the 4/3 bayonet. Since the custom adapters are at reasonable price I am ready to buy an original OM-4/3 adapter and destroy it to see how it operates. The question was - is it true that focus confirmation works??? The adapter is very expensive, but it will be worth, since I have a lot of old manual lens... The problem with MF is that I wear glasses with different lens on each eye and focusing at greater distance is a real pain in the S :(

    Best Regards!

  8. Hello,

I am using an Olympus E300 camera with non-native lens - I have a couple of old

lens from my Exacta Varex photocamera. I have an adapter ring from the Exacta

bayonet to the 4/3 bayonet, that woks fine, but with manual focus only.

Recently I have read in a Russian forum about Olympus cameras, that the focus

confirmation works for OM lens, if the original (supported by Olympus) adapter

is used. It is quite costly, but if it really works I am ready to buy one amd

order an adapter from Exacta bayonet to OM mount. Stacking two adapters is

something I do not want to do, but if it works well, I would.

    Best Regards!

  9. Hello,

A couple of days ago a friend of mine brought me a large tube with a number of

lens inside, saying it was an ANAMARFOT converter. I could not find any

information using this keyword in Google or any other of the search engines.

The Converter is about 20cm long and the front lens is slightly curved to the

rim on one of the diagonals, the other diagonal is just... err... normal. The

front lens is about 10-11cm in diameter. There is a 67mm tread on the back of

the tube. the rear lens is flat (as far as I can see). The whole thing is

pretty heavy - I do not have balances around but I would say it is close to

    1kg.

When I look through - I can see an oval shape, with objects distorted on the

other end. The weird thing is that when I look on the one end the oval seems

perpendicular to the image from the other end (I checked it - I am not turning

it). If rotating the front part in front of my eye, the effect looks pretty

much like an effect used in one of Nirvana's videos (Smells like teen spirit,

    if I am not mistaken).

Finally the question is: Where can I read more about such lenses/converters or

whatever these... errr... things are called :-)

    Best Regards!
