Hi,
There are two version of cheap telle zoom lens available on my local store
here.
1. Pentax FA 100-300 4.5-5.6 (1998) black
2. Pentax FA 100-300 4.7-5.8 (2000) silver
Which one is performig better on Pentax *ist DL ? I don't have any plan to
purchase more expensive one in the near future, but like to hear other product
from third party company like Tamron or Sigma.
Thanks,
Ertomo

Hi,
Finally, I decided to share samples of my scanning results w Plustek 7200i.
This negative film was taken w aging SLR of my late father Canon New F1 at the
year of 1998 on Fuji Superia ISO 100. It is not too old negative actually, but
I wasnt properly handling this negative which creates hairy cracking on this
film.
Here are same images that I scanned w different software.
1.The first images used bundled Silverfast SE w its iSRD (infrared) was
setting at 18 & its SRD (software) set off, Noise reduction GENE set to low.
I am so impressed on how this software brings back this fading colour to alive
wo hard working effort. Its ACR is very wonderful although I think its iSRD is
too mediocre. Patched pixels look like water colour filter on PShops program.
2.The second one w popular Hamricks Vuescan software, infrared filter set
heavy
I like the results how this software did pixels mapping, although I have to
work hard to get its colour back.
3. The third one , same as number 2 but its infrared filter turn off.
I realize both infrared dust & sctatch removal is far from perfect but give us
less time to get finalized images in photoshops program.
Im not a professional photographer and like to hear other people safe their
old days memory on this digital age.
Thanks for the comments.

Hi,
The main reason I change my mind not to choose KM Dimage Dual IV (actually, a good scanner!) w Plustek 7200i SE is its lack of infrared dust & scratch removal and cant justify buying more expensive one. I totally move to digital age & not to use film anymore.
I realize that this feature is a must to scan film. I have a batch a collection of old pictures from mine & my late father that targeted to be converted to digital format. I try to use KM Dimage Dual IV but it is a painfully process, take hourly to patch w healing brush & stamp tools to patch part of damaged images in PS EL IV.
Yes, I miss some useful features. This film scanner cant do manually focusing & also doesnt have automatic film transporter. Its mean I have to move film manually from one frame to others.
I also try to scanned w my friend Canon 9950f that produce good colour rendering but look so soft for 35 mm film.

Jim,
Does fare on CanoScan 9950 f not use infrared technology?
I found this link http://www.photo-i.co.uk/News/Sept04/Canon%20scanner.htm seem this scanner use infrared technology w their own written algorithm software to interpret infrared channel of scanned data.

Hi,
I tried to use infrared dust & scratch removal from my friend's
Vuescan (not remember his version)on his Canon 9950 f to repair neg
film, but this software give wrong patched on scanned film.
I checked Hamrick's Website this scanner is supported, but I am not
sure this including his infrared cleaning.
Anybody knows ?
Cheers.

Hi,
I only take 35 mm negative & slide film. I use Canon 9950f use only for old BW medium format from my late father. It's OK for that size but can't meet my standard to scan 35 mm film. It look so soft, although I can improve its sharpness w PS CS2 but it also generate undesirable noise.
I actually has move to digital and very rarely play w film again. Sometimes, I feel missing of the feeling of film (colour).
Thanks for your respond.

Hi,
I have opportunity to try Dimage Scan Dual IV to scan negative film.
This scanner gives me outstanding picture quality, but this scanner
lack of ICE. I have to fight for hours to clean dust and other dirty
particles, even those negatives just come out from film processing
shop. I cant imagine how many hours I have to spend for cleaning
old film.
I like to choose Plustek Optic Film 7200i that has infrared dust
removal iSRD from Silverfast, but I can see any review to prove this
feature is effective as ICE.
I also have try flat bed scanner Canon 9950f but the result is not
as good Dimage Scan Dual IV (for 35 mm film). I also have to spend a
lot of time in PS CS2 to pull out its details. I realize this
scanner is not the best in the world and suffer to pull out detail
on shadow & highlight area, but after read some review especially
from www.lfi-online.de, I finally tend to choose this scanner.
Im not professional photographer and my budget is limited.
Is it right decision?
Thanks,

Point & Shot Camera as a backup for DSLR.
in Pentax
Posted
Hi,
I have been moved digitally for a couple of year and my Pentax *ist DL is
almost w me for almost all the time. It is not an easy track for a people to
forget 35 mm film camera that have been part of me for about 30 years,
especially for its colour rendition of each film brand to match different
ambient of place or occasion.
So, I decided to find Point & Shot film camera that can match (as closed as
possible?) the quality of SLR. Can you help me to give recommendation for some
models?
Thank you for your advice.
