  1. <p>Thanks Bob,<br>

I must have done something, I am just not sure what. I copied and pasted a long text right into my bio and it went bersek within a couple minutes. I must have jammed some protocols (or awakened some homeland security algorythm)...Hopefully, this is a joke of course. I have faith. Thank you for the prompt attention.<br>

    Lex,<br>

Yes, I can do bad all by myself and I did too.</p>

  2. <h2>Server Error</h2>

<p align="right"><small><em>Whenever I try to access my homepage or workspace, I get a blank page with the message you see printed above. This happened after I posted a very long biography. I have no idea why this is happening. It might be its size (or its controversial content). Did this happen to anybody else, any clue why ? I can access all my pictures and edit them just fine from browsing my name on google (pascal agneray) but I cannot even delete my bio. Thanks for any help</em></small></p>

  3. <p>Honesty is a key word in judging...self honesty. We all see through lenses that are flawed by our egos, liking/disliking of others and tinted by our upbringing. Some have lenses so thick, they could be called legally blind and some have surprising purity and open mindedness about their approach of they like and enjoy. It's hard to be objective and open. I know it's hard for me.<br>

You know the saying...best way to learn is to teach!, it is the same as best way to judge oneself objectively is to learn to like or dislike other's pictures objectively. I believe that this is fundamental in the growing process of someone who pretends to better him or herself in taking pictures. It takes not just a little effort but a tremendous application at being open minded and to really let go of our pre-conceptions sometimes to learn from others.</p>

<p>The way pictures are displayed is very important too...impact of a stamp versus a large paper print is as different as impact of a movie on youtube versus IMAX. In order to judge a picture , we should always enlarge it and let it sit for a while. I always glance at pictures at 20, 000 miles an hour and later discover that some pictures that seemed great age very badly while others lame at first ,only get better...Ultimately though, the best picture is the one that grabs you, hold you and lift you even higher as you start studying it. This is what we all aim for...giving epiphany, lifting others, this is a great pursuit. That's why I love being part of this web site and talk with you all, strangers and amazingly smart people. That's what binds us like whales and submarines communicate in sub 20 hz sounds, we look for this special emotion pictures can give us and that we can re-create in our own pictures...Happy new year and wishes of prosperity, happiness and creative juices to all of you reading these words.</p><div>00S0vl-103767584.JPG.1edf5bab982930204c123ec26c9f96af.JPG</div>

  4. <p>Ton,<br>

First you must know that your question is one of the few question that really matters..it goes to the core of all questions when it comes to human interface within PN as well as many other if not all other communities. Motive, reasons...WHY?<br>

I let myself be an idiot when it comes to judging.<br>

I just let my emotion run the show. Then later I discover major technical flaws in the picture I rated very highly and I feel like it's OK. You are a lot more demanding about art and that makes you sak the question..."On what darn criteria do you friggin rate a picture?"<br>

Well..emotional impact is ALL at first but as we all learn, love at first sight is not always the smartest or wisest approach. It is important nonetheless, mind you. I have taken a ride in your portfolio and I can see how important and mindfull some of your pictures are Ton. I think the problem is that you have set your standards so high that very few people can keep up...</p>

  5. If you don't care about sharpness, that's fine. I you do care, do not buy it, it most probably has a loose lens, scratches, mold or other defects plus it's a zoom, lots of moving parts. Stick to primes in used stuff or ask if you can mount it on your body, take shots at max and min range plus a couple in between on a tripod and magnify the crap out of the corners at home to see it's worth it. Be ready for bad surprises. Even if it's cheap, who wants to ruin a perfect shot with a poor definition lens? But then again, there are good surprises too. (Me, I don't like taking chances)
  6. I have the 30D and I highly recommend it. My uncle was a hardcore Nikonians and he switched to Canon because of the lens selection. If you go to Calumet you can find lots of used Nikon bodies but no Canons. Both are very good so you cannot go wrong really. If you do not mind small body, the new rebel has 10 megapixels. I'd still stick with the 30 D though. 8 megapixels is already huge and there is little to be desired (except the sensor of the 5D but that's a lot more money) The longer you wait, the better and cheaper it gets, just like TV and computers.
  7. This would have the very convenient feature of allowing me to look at top rated photos without first putting the kids to bed and making sure my girlfriend is not watching over my shoulder. That's a great idea if you ask me. Whenever I click on "top photos" now, I feel like a perv. It's an odd feeling while being on Photo.net because I do not associate this site with porn or perv stuff...There is plenty more hardcore stuff elsewhere, why does so many people love nude? I like it too but PN is not a source I would use if I wanted to check out nudies, that's for sure.
  8. The rating calculation algorithms created by the PN web creators has some refresh clock rate set on big (coarse) time scales. I have seen discrepancies between ratings that can last for at least a full day (on the same picture). You see your picture rated one way on your home page and it is displayed at a totally different number and place on the "top photo" folder. Then the day after, it's back in sync. Eventually it straightens itself up. I think the key word here is...patience.
  9. If it were me, I'd want the canon 100 mm macro prime lens..yes, I know it's about $400 at Adorama but I would love it. Flash is ok if he is picky about his set up...I have a 30 D and I find the attached flash sufficient. Next choice if $400 is too much of a stretch would be the prime canon 50 mm. I bought one...it's cheap looking and light but it is the sharpest lens you can buy for the money. Other cool accessories are leather strap handle, a Kata camera bag (those are cool)
