This critique is given from the perspective of a rank beginner and someone who has no American affiliations.

 

An image such as this cannot be removed from the current political undertones apparent in the area in which this was taken. Should you wish to post a photograph such as this it must deliver a message much in the same way the anti apartheid photographs of the mid 70s and early 80's did. As it stands what you have is merely an image of a sign with some PS manipulation. The image delivers no message other than that which appears on the sign.

 

Had this been a political or protest rally of some sort you could have a great opportunity to capture a deep and meaningful image that delivered a message, even if it was one you personally may or may not agreeed with.

I like the lighting and the dof. Just right imo. The colour and detail are impressive. some additional techincal details would be useful.

Thanks for the reminder of my youth. I remember enjoying the ride but not the inevitable falls which always seemed to hurt a lot!!!! The horse certainly seems to be enjoying the outing. The other photos in the portfolio capture the cross country part of the three day event well. From a personal perspective however I would have liked to see some dressage and showjumping to round off the portfolio. Merely the perspective of a former participant in the sport and not a photo critic.

Have you followed the discussion on the thread 'Photo ratings - a general comment on general silliness'. The rating system is considered and what constitues art.

 

From an individual perspective anonymous criticism, especially if it is negative may be seen as unfair or unwarranted especially after one has put ones heart and soul into a picture. I would suspect that there are plenty of individuals out there who like what it is you are trying to do. Keep it up. At least you have taken the step of submitting to PN.

Great picture. I like these simple lines. Eyes drawn to the drop of water with the reflection of a leaf. Not too sure how you could get rid of the white dot at the bottom right which i found a bit distracting.
