  1. to keep it short:

do not buy any flimsy tripod. do not.

Save up and get a sturdy one: manfrotto, velbon, gitzo, giotto to the max of your budget and what your are prepared to carry.

  2. Thanks, Terry!

thanks for the tip! I tried the Hadley pro in a shop and gave particular attention to the straps after your observation and I thought they will indeed loosen very quickly! So after trying the Hadley, Lowepro Offroad and Stealth Reporter d200, I got the d200. Used it for a day out today - and very happy. Fits the above gear well with some spare space (at least 2 more lenses will fit easily).

    Thanks for your advice.

  3. Hello!

I am looking for shoulder bag to take the gear for short walks and city trips.

    to hold: Canon 20D+17-85, 70-200f4, 10-22, 430EX, filters (incl 100x150 ND

    grads), baterries, cards.

I was thinking something like Lowepro Stealth Reporter d200 would do, but I

also noticed the Billingham Hadley and it seems to take most of the above,

although it looks too slim for that.

Do you have any practical experience with this bag for similar size system? How

does it work? Did you have to use the additional clip-on pockets?

For hiking trips/long walks I use a normal backpack with gear inside in their

own individual cases. For actual walk/hicking - camera on the neck, lenses and

other stuff - on the belt.

Would appreciate your experiences with Billingham Hadley (Pro or others) with a

    20d-size system.

    Thanks,

    Denis

  4. Hi,

I am looking for a shoulder bag for short trips (I use a back pack on long

    trips) to take 20D, 17-85, 10-22, 70-200 f4, 50, 430ex, filters, batt.

The above seems to fit into the Off Road (using the external lens cases). It

also seems versatile as it can be worn as a shoulder bag as well as a a belt

    pack.

Do you have experience of using it? How well does it work (for daytrips/short

    walks)?

Can you recommend another shoulder bag? Why?

  5. Hi, I am considering gt0530 or gt1530 for mountain hikes and trekking trips

    with Canon 20D and lenses like 10-22, 17-85 and 70-200 f4.

I am prepared to take some compromise on stability for reduced weight. Does

anybody have experience with 0530, 1530 or similar? Which one will fit the

    equipment?

I currently use Velbon Shrpa CF 530 which is very sturdy and weighs 2 kilos

with head. I would like to cut weight by half using Gitzo + lighter head (maybe

    small Giottos).

Will 0530 or 1530 hold the weight?

  7. 70-200 4 IS - I have been waiting for it for a year! If it is true, I hope it is as good as the non-is optically.

400D - more pixels is more important at this level than less noise, so it is logical to have it for Canon to get/keep market share

50 1.2 - should be a good lens, maybe I get one day...

  8. My experience was very similar to Dan Mitchell,

After about a year of shooting I got fed up with cloning blobs in photoshop and had to clean. I found that using blower puts more dust on the sensor. so I used pecpads with cleaning solution, initially on a self made spatula. I found that one-two swipes are not enough if there is a lot of dust so I do many more than 1-2, more like 6-7, even if same side of spatula more than once. I expected it will be more difficult but it is not, as long as you are gentle and carefu. The results ave very good, no dust. Even if I see a bit of smear from the solution on the sensor with my eye, it cannot be seen on test pictures (even at smallest apertures). The self made spatula was a bit too soft, so I bough special ones with pec-pads already fitted and consider the sensor dust problem not a problem any more but a nuisance.

  9. Here it is

    Professional Carbon fibre tripod

     3 section multi angle legs

     Rubber & spiked feet

     Foam leg grips

     Anti twist legs.

     Sliding

     Splitable & removable column

Comes with Stone Bag & accessory hook.

     Closed 60cm

     Min height 13cm

     Extended 165cm

     Weight 1.7kg

  10. This may be of help -

after a long research I bought Velbon CF 630 PRO. it is very sturdy, well built, carbon fiber so relatively light, has spikes with removable caps etc. I was surprised it is significantly cheaper than any other acrbon fiber tripod I could find, without being lower quality. I am not sure if you can get it in US (must be at least a similar model) but I got it in UK for about 130 GBP - and very happy with it.

  11. Hello,

I wonder if anybody has experience and can advise on what filter

system can be used with 10-22mm lens (i.e. without blocking the

view / vignetting). I would like to use ND grads for landscapes and

find it difficult to chose a filter sustem.

In UK we have Cokin (holders P, Xpro, Zpro), Lee and HiTech (normal

holders and wide-angle) systems. So which one will work on 10-22mm

    lens without unacceptable vignetting?

Manufacturers sites are silent on this. Best info that can be found

is something like "can be used with angles wider than 20mm" - go

guess if it is OK on 16 mm (equivalent of 10mm on Canon 20D) or only

    on 19.5mm...

    Can anyone help?

    Denis
