  1. Thanks all. Very sensible recommendations, just what I needed to hear.

As far as fast moving sports, I shoot mainly wakeboarding events, with lots of success on the 30D. I do agree about the AF tracking performance, once locked on, I have no issues.

It could be my technique, but the problem I'm facing is getting the focus locked on something else under non-ideal lighting conditions (e.g., cloudy grey skies).

    What's your take?

  2. Hi,

I'm an amateur photographer shooting primarily people subjects such as

portraits, street, events, and some sports.

Up to this point, I've been using a 30D. I have no qualms whatsoever on the

30D's image quality, and have successfully enlarged shots up to 24x20". What

does get me from time to time is its AF performance. Kids running in the street,

people rushing for the commute, or models moving a little too fast can get the

30D's AF caught on the wrong footing.

While I do love to have a full-frame field of view of the 5D, I'm a little

concerned about its AF performance. If it's going to be in the neighborhood of

the 30D, then there's not much incentive for me to upgrade. Any feedback on it?

I'm quite excited about the 1D Mark III. It's set to be a camera that's going to

last at least 3 years of heavy usage.

I still consider myself an amateur photographer, but I'm in the process of

trying to make some side money from shooting portraits, events, and some still

    life photos.

Would appreciate the advice of the many experienced brethren here on a wise

    investment choice.

    Thanks!

    San

  3. Thanks all, for the suggestions. The Alien Skin plugin does sound inviting.

What I found annoying about bumping up the saturation parameter is that it also amplifies

any overcast colors, a white-balance nightmare.

I suppose I just have to experiment and have custom settings for different lighting situations.

    Cheers!
