  1. This image shows an honest portrait of a person, one with a little bit reserved facial expression and at the same time having his eyes straight towards the camera. The personality that transmits through the image, combined with the light and the overall atmosphere, seem to transmit the viewer into this place and to meeting this person. I like that feeling in a good portrait, kind of first introduction to the photographed person.

  2. I hope that you don`t mind my opinion and cropping the original!

So, here is a rough suggestion of mine, this is now a panoramic image, but hopefully it delivers my view of the overall composition. :)

  3. Well, to start from the obvious, this has such a  beautiful light and overall place seems like a distant paradise island. So, those elements are ok.

But... To my eye, there are some basic matters that would need some attention. At first, this seems to tilt a little to the left, so the horizon is not leveled to the balance. Then, those wooden planks and such, at the lower left corner, those are a little bit disturbing, especially when they situate at so close to the island. Perhaps, shooting from a little bit different angle would have kept the view clear without those planks. Finally, to my eye, the main subject is the silhouette of the island and the light forms the silhouette. The position of the main subject is vital for keeping the image interesting. By positioning the island to the middle of the image is like putting it to the most uninteresting place of the image area. Sometimes such composition works very well, but now the wooden elements destroy the balance of the image and hence leave this a little bit cluttered.

So, I`d love to get to see this lovely view from a little bit more from the right and composed so, that the island would be about one third lower or one third higher than what it is now. :-)

Even though this is rather common subject, I really do enjoy the simple beauty of the subject, composition and light. Well seen and well captured image.

I really enjoyed shooting with that monster-macro-equiptment. As it comes to the "6x6"-format of this image (and so many others in my portfolio) I very much like using this kind of composition. It enables the possibility to crop away distracting elements and to focus into main subject.

Pierre: Thank you very much for your suggested editing. It is a nice way to see the image.

At first the center composition disturbed a little bit, but then the eye catched the branches at the borders and all balanced quite well. The main event, happening at the center is the main focus and that is so well captured in you photo. As a whole, great image.

I haven`t viewed the whole series, yet, but even this one totally stops me as a viewer. This forces me to confront him and at the same time my own view of the life and the world. Some one has written a definition that a good book is such, that after reading it, it has affected the reader in some way. Well, this sole photo fullfills my own definition of a "good photo". This challenges and this documents, this provokes thoughts and this intriques to want to see more and to help to reserve the original lifestyles of the world. My highest respect both for you as a documenter and to this man who has chosen to live his life in a traditional way.

  4. I`ve tried to capture a photo like this one for quite some time, but haven`t succeeded in any way close to this one... Incredible photo as a whole! This image is full of life, action and drama. Anonymous 7/7 came from my mouse and I`d love to rate this even higher.

What kind of self made lens did you use to shoot this one?

    With warm greetings,

This is an interesting and beautiful subject, but I find it a bit disturbing that the framing is this tight. I suppose that it is a photographic decision, but I can`t find the reason to frame the birds neck, over part of the head, tail and feets away from the photo. :-)
