1.
Here`s mine, shot four nights ago. I have waited for over six years to get to see norhern lights again. Finally it happened and luckily I had a chance to shoot some images at that time.

00ZQdI-404355584.jpg.43caf110af4d49d5b12d90a4dcb524a9.jpg

 2.
Such a fine collection, once again! Way too many great images to name absolute favourites, this demands a deeper viewing.

My photo was shot with the following "cannon": D700 + 21mm extension tube + Nikon BR-6 bellows + Nikon 300mm Ai-S IF ED lens. Tested this bazooka for the first time, it needs huge amounts of light, but I love the results. :)

00WpBW-258123584.jpg.59432eeca934910d50fdc7f8468ae805.jpg

 3.
Just a quick throwing of this week`s capture from yesterday evening!
Hope a very fine day for everyone at this thread and thanking for sharing such fine captures as, for example, Roberta`s and Shun`s!
Mine was shot with D700 + Sigma 24-60mm/2.8 DG EX (great piece of optics for the price!).

00WXjq-247123584.jpg.f653c452083fa7fc4df23f67f41fc499.jpg

 4.
It`s the middle of the week and a time for the exclusive gallery of fine details, great light, emotions, wonderful pets and sports, etc... It time for the Nikon Wednesday photos - time for all of us. :-)

Very warm thank`s to all of you, whom commented my last week`s photo! The gallery-collection was fine at last week, but this seem`s to out do even the past galleries. Simply great stuff in here!

Matt and Greg stroke some of the first home runs and from there the collection has got even more great works. Outstanding. Markku, I notice that you too have dusted your macro-lens. Me too. :-)

My photo for this week comes from my yard. This day has been the first really rather warm and sunny day for quite some time in here. So, a little bit time for some photos during lunch break.

00WRlX-243599584.jpg.60fa7b180191eaddd1df0081f0a86ba6.jpg

 5.
Thank you all, whom commented my last week photo! There were so many and so great images at last week´s thread that it was almost breathtaking.
At this week, my image is a bit moody and dark, hopefully it opens well in PN-pages. This was shot at last Saturday evening when dark clouds started gathering over a frozen bay where I was shooting photos. The wind gusts blew very heavily and it was even a little bit worrying when the trees moved violently because of the wind. Then the gusts settled for a moment and the veiled sun emerged through the thick roof of clouds. Well, then I had some busy moments with the camera.

 6.
Very good morning Nikon-people! This early and already so many fine images. Well, we NAS-patients come from all over the world.
Some quick observations:
Arayan - Most interesting and beautiful, also very original approach to your subject. Fine image.
Sanford - What a great sports-capture. Easily beats all those tight sparred usual sport-photos. :-)
Adam - I like this one.
Greg - Another great and humoristic sport-photo.
Tiffany - :-D Wonderfully sunny portrait!
Sankha - Very nice and moody image. Somehow this reminds me of Edgar Allan Poe...
Mikhail - An image full of pet owners joy. Lovable capture!
Matt - Nice work in such a hurry!

My image was shot at last week. The spring was at good start at my part of Central-Finland when the winter suddenly returned. This was shot by a partly flooded field that the moving birds use as a landing site. Nikon D700 + Nikon 80-200mm/2.8. 1/2500s, f:4, ISO 400.

00WLR6-239909584.jpg.aae6e0fa74106e59cc1f43c9eecd0e79.jpg

 7.
Is this still open? :-)
Then some more quick comments:
Markku: Beautiful sunset, it really was worth driving up to the Savimaki at that evening!
Roberta: Love those miniature flowers on the droplets! This photo gives hope that the summer will come.
Louis: Great BW-capture. Love the sharpness and pure and simple presentation that manages to be also complex at the same time.
Tim: What a warm portrait. You master the human-photos! :-)
Jeff: Great posterisation!

 8.
At first, large thank`s to those of you, whom have kindly mentioned my photo during this week!
Then final notions of these fine images:
Jose Angel - Wonderful light and atmosphere.
Kemal Riza - Kind of enchanting winter-photo. This majestic view humbles ordinary man.
Richard Karash - Excellent and even very beautiful city-photo. The light is just about perfect to give a whole another atmosphere to the view.
Tony Hadley - Fine view and extraordinary great moment.
Kevin Delson - You have created an interesting image. I can only imagine what kind of view the original moment was, but this is so very intriquing.
Juho Niva - Excellent detail of the small hidden parts of the nature. Very, very beautiful capture.
Gabriel Hasser - One of the very best self-portraits for a long time. This is photography that shows the use of the light with imagination. I like this one a lot.
So many other`s would also deserve commenting, but as this thread is just about to go closed, I`ll stop for now. C U again at tomorrow morning! :-)

 9.
Very good Wednesday morning for everybody! Once again a fine collection of varied subjects and great images!
To name some:
Matt, great dog photo.
Jeff, simply capturing piece of sheer beauty and grace.
Shun, this one made me spent a whole lot time admiring the beauty of the bird and the just about perfect light and all those rich details. Stunning capture.
Dieter, one can almost smell the flower meadow and feel the sounds and atmosphere of the place. Very beautiful image, as if classical dutch painting.
My photo is from the last week. I have returned to shoot this lonely rowing boat every once in a while as I find it somehow interesting subject, one that shows the time and the place in the middle of the hectic modern world traffic.

00WHyN-238087684.jpg.8b208eba82a7e8f493bf931b92a4ff62.jpg

 10.
Good Wednesday morning for everybody! Already a fine and varied collection in this thread. The first images that caught my attention, are Bill`s, Bogdan`s, Phil`s, Mike`s and Paula`s, even though I liked so many others too. Because I`m on a tight schedule right now, I must return to this page at a proper time and comment many others.

My humble snap arrives from the last spring, hence our spring is way behind the images that are posted in here and for example the lakes are still ice covered. To me, I have had quite enough of the ice and snow and wanted to post something bright and full of spring. Here it goes, hope you guys and gals like it. :-) - And yes, this is actually a third attempt to post an image into this thread as I have managed to mess the first two postings somehow... (Sorry for causing more job for the moderators!)

00WEXs-236405584.jpg.75c3bd37b5cf4ebbb999e9293dd8743d.jpg

 12.
Oh, what a fine collection we have in here.
Here are some of the most interesting images for my taste:
Matt Laur - Very well captured chase!
Benjamin Schaefer - Really low tones and mellow atmosphere, yet captivatingly interesting and beautiful.
James Kazan - Fine, detailed and interesting image that also leaves one wondering, what on earth is this subject? :-)
Jeff Lipsman - Simple and still very beautiful and interesting photo.
Jose Angel - A dose of pure good mood and joyful breakfast. The only "nagging" rises out of the fact that now I want some cold chocolate milk and we don`t have any. ;-D
Bryan Meadows - The strong subject contrast between the feather and the concrete combined with the fine light make this one a very fine capture.
Tony Hadley - Great light, beautiful colors, intresting and fragile subject, all together a great photo.
Apurva Madia - I have returned to this photo every once in a while from the morning. I haven`t had time to comment, but this has captured my attention. Fine documenting of the people and his work environment.
Shun Cheung - Fine use of the local accessories of the restaurant. The vivid red wall ties this one into latin country, the gold-leafed frame of the mirror add`s extra punch and the ordinary people of the photo-portrait ties this into modern world. Very nice capture.
Mark Gordon - Fine portrait. You have transfered her mood into a photo with almost pinpoint accuracy. At least that is the atmospheric aura around your image. Great work.
Paul Howard - Whoa! Stopping image - literally. Another one that has got plenty of viewing time at my screen. Fine action image.
Adey L - One of my favourite pet-images from the last couple of weeks. Pure, interesting and captivating pet-portrait.
Rene' Villela - Well balanced and beautiful photo.
Waldemar Giers - Kitchener,ON,Canada - Sunset or no sunset, beautiful image anyhow! Although, I have to admit that I definitely have a weak spot towards well captured and beautifully colored sun-photos.
Donald Lawrence - I have recently discovered the joy`s of panorama-photography, so this naturally captured my attention. Simply great and simple image. One to like without any specific reason.
Oskar Ojala - Even before viewing your name, I recognized the setting of the passion-play. Nice documenting of this interesting theatre play.

Then to my photo for this week. This is dull, gray and yet moody for me. Interesting to hear what this says to anyone of you. :-)

00WBSG-234993584.jpg.b44ddd71837280bec3844a305dee6741.jpg

 13.
At first, thank`s to all of you, whom commented my last week`s photo! I live in a small town in the middle of the lakes and forests, so I have quite a bit of "forest-photos" in my collection.
At this week this photo thread seems to be even greater than at last week.
These are some of my favourites:
Phil Burt - Great B&W work and nice atmosphere.
Don Harper - Joyful pet-portrait. Wonderful cat and a very nice image.
Radu Dumitrescu - Wow! Talk about moody portrait of a pub, just great.
Juho Niva - Delightful and atmospheric semi-nature photo.
Georg S - Very nice connecting of old and young. Interesting image that makes me want to see what is inside of the car.
Monika Epsefass - So beautiful image, full of light and spring! This almost melt half of the snow away from my yard. :-D
Rick Moran - Another fine bird-photo. These are shot with skill and expertise.
Peter Heritage - My deepest sympathy for the sake of your loss! The photo is a joyful and loving dedication for your father`s memory.
Greg Jones - Thank you Greg! That image really does that for the viewers. :-) Your image let my soul feel peace, beauty and rest. Very beautiful!
Greg Kowalczewski - Ouch! That must have hurt a lot. Fine sport image!
Paula Wang - Beautiful capture, indeed! Fine view and a peacuful photo of it.
My own photo for this week shows one of the final frosty days of this winter.
Nikon D200, 80-200/2.8 @ 4, 1/2000s. ISO 200.

00W87f-233407584.jpg.b792ba80de61c7c4fbf55773d667b3f8.jpg

 14.
Hello Nikon Wednesday people! Great collection, as always!

Markku, I really like this one a lot!
Filip, simple but very effective and even joyful.
Doug, so very beautiful capture!
Rick, another joyful bird-photo! The way it seems to dance is somehow captivating.
Gej, this is like an abstract image of flat textures and at the same time this looks like something that forces the viewer to take a walk at the stairs. Nice capture!
Epp. adorable image! Makes me smile.

At this week, I take a dive into old archives from the last fall. This was shot at last September. Nikon D200 + Nikon AF 80-200/2.8, 1/250s, f:3.5, ISO 400.

00W4oP-231807584.jpg.3d30f46f47b6e7cadaea4ac3fa58ed67.jpg

 15.
At first I want to thank all of you whom have commented my forest photo from last week! I had no idea that this is so active forum and got overwhelmed for the response to my first submission at this thread. So, once again, thank you all! Special thank`s to Gej for your kind mail!
I tried to response to the previous thread, but it was already closed, so a quick comment that these were my pickings from the previous week:
Dieter Schaefer
Greg Jones
Nick Doronin
Gary Leighton
Benjamin Majcen - Great atmosphere and wonderful view!
Richard Karash - Absolutely wonderful baby! Congratulations to you and to the family!

As it comes to my wednesday pic for this week. Nothing special and yet at the same time nothing ordinary is my theme at this week. I just wanted to enjoy the light and the enchanting surfaces that the OOF:fed trees, snowflakes and branches form. Hope you like it.
If you wonder what this shows, take a look at it in a little big larger form by clicking it in my "2010 - March" folder at my portfolio.

 16.
Nikon D700 + 80-200/2.8 ED
at f4, 1/640 sec, ISO 200.
This winter has been a real "old time" winter also here in Central Finland. During the last five winters some of the winters have been very mild tempered and without lots of snow, well, this winter has brought more than enough of snow and frost. I think that this has been the same for most of the northern hemisphere.

00VxwN-227963684.jpg.cc15a28362a5e7897a62f21d27b9b000.jpg

 17.
I`ll add my two cents...
At late December 2009 I received at Facebook an email and friend request from Bulgaria. The young, beautiful and obviously musically and art talented - yet also totally unfamiliar lady asked for a friendship. To say the least, I was sceptical, thinking all the possible virus, hacking, etc... possibilities and adding the inappropriate scam-mails of the net. Well, it turned out that she had seen my winter photos at the net and wanted to express that she liked them a lot. The downside is that these photos were at a Bulgarian site that had run a "net article" with aprox. 35-40 of my photos at one page. All this without any permission or questions before hand.

The original site that led me to further Googling:
http://biskvitka.net/2009/12/30/izkustvoto_na_alpo_syvanen.html

This led me to a deeper Googling and it was startling to find literally hunders of torrent-sites that had a torrent packet consisting of 69 of my images and my name over the package. (There were lots of other packages with the names of other photographers.) I also found several blogging sites that had huge amounts of our Photo.net photos ripped. And I mean one photographer might have 20-100 of his/her`s photos at those blogs. They gave credit to us, but these photos were used without our permission. Couple of the sites even gave a kind of introduction concerning, for example, me. One stated that I am an British professional nature photographer (flattering, but I am a Finnish youth coucellor - and totally amateur), the other one had facts more perfectly laid out, because they were taken from my Photo.net profile.

I`d suggest that you, fellow Photo.netters, take a good look at these sites and google your name, properly browsing the opening google-list... That may make you wonder a little bit, at least it did that for me. Before you start browsing, a word of caution! When browsing those links, have some kind of script, java, applet blocking-software installed to your browser and good antivirus package, because these and the torrent sites may contain something that is very nasty to your computer...

http://www.bigpicture.in/the-beautiful-work-of-alpo-syvanen/
http://www.4otos.net/nature-photography-by-alpo-syvanen/

THESE TWO PARTICULAR LINKS may be more than interesting.... I did not check all of those links in this list, but there are plenty of familiar names:
http://www.4otos.net/archive/
http://www.bigpicture.in/category/photography/

So, at the end, what does this mean... Well, I was very irritated when these pages popped out and those torrent-packages with my name are stilll worrysome. Mainly because if they contain viruses and/or some kind of nasty material added to them outside of my photos, it is definitely not good. What can I do to these packages? I assume that nothing at all. There was one site which address doesn`t appear anymore in Google lists, that had some other photo torrent packages that startled me. One package had a name something like this: Alpo Syvanen photos from photo.net all of 2009 - and another one something like this: Alpo Syvanen photos all published... I did not take the address to my list at that time because I was totally strartled... Those torrent fellows must be scraping the bottom of the lair when my photos interest them. Sad.

Well then, about the photo-blogs... They may be genuine, that`s kind of flattering. Thank you and please, ask a permission to use the photos at next time! On the other hand, at least some of these sites may be kind of phishing-lures... Sites that lure the interested and wondering photographers to view them and there may be trojans and loggers to catch the prey... Who knows...?

Sorry for the lenghty rant! :-)

 18.
Well, about the placement of the AF-S/AF-C/M - switch... It is a constant pain in the neck while shooting outside at the nature, or at the quick paced rock-events. It is not one or two times that I somehow managed to change the position into AF-C and the autofocus has started to hunt... That said, I have Nikon D200 camera body and several lenses. So, at least in my case, most of the autofocus problems usually rise from the accidental change of the position of the switch. But, then again, I don`t have a D700 nor SB-900... Well, at least not right now. :-) Hopefully everything works out well for you!
