1.
Hello all, I received the following RFQ. Can you help with any pricing advice?
Thanks,
-----------
Max, I was in the Steve & Cindy Oliver wedding. I continue to be impressed with your work.

I've been a financial planner for years, but I've recently launched my own brand/practice and would like some professional shots for marketing and PR purposes. Open to suggestions, but I would like some of me at various places around my local community (Fairfield Township/Hamilton). Maybe a couple at my desk. I'm a pilot so maybe a couple in front of a nice corporate jet down at the Butler County airport or something.

Are you interested? We also need family photos for Holidays and just to have an updated shot. Maybe we could combine those two needs.

Please reply with pricing and availability and suggestions on what works best for you to accomplish both goals. I work mostly from my home office so I'm flexible.

 2.
Mikael, I agree with you in part. Copyright infringement is apart from everything else. Either it or it isn't. However, if LeighAnn sees a reasonable increase in her revenue as a direct result of the watermarked image and publicity, then perhaps she should not call the copyright into question. Even though is it technically a copyright infringement.
LeighAnn, Mikael's second point is great. Copyright it before you contact them.

 3.
LeighAnn, don't call them quite yet. First, you need to read the FB photo use terms and conditions. Second, you need to establish "definitively" all the places that they are using your image. For example, are they using it on their website, blog, other marketing materials, etc. The reason why it is important is because if you call and say that you want it pulled from FB, they may agree to pull it and/or pay you for the use. You then may find out that they are using it everywhere else, you would be out of "money" having allowed them to use it in FB. Also, keep track of the locations and the number of usages of your images. Once you've established all the facts, then contact them to see what their response is. If nothing gets done or they give you a runaround, contact a copyright attorney.

 4.
I use my 1.6 crop on my 20D only for sports when I need to shoot 1,280mm @ 5.6. (400mm 2.8 + 2x Extender on 20d). I love the fisheye and 16mm perspective on my 5D and hence my desire for a 1.0 or 1.3 sensor. I cover my lack of high ISO by shooting 85 1.2 and with a 1.3 crop on MKIII at an effective portrait distance of 110mm.

 5.
I use 1DMKIII and 5D, with 1DMKIIn as backup. I bring:
15 fish
16-35 2.8 L
24-70 2.8 L
50 1.4
85 1.2 L
70-200 L IS
180 Macro 3.5 L
300 2.8 L IS for closeup shots from the end of the church during ceremony
3-580IIEX
4 PW Transcievers

 6.
Chimera, to me the timing depends more on the number of setup then on the number of people. I have a 2 page shot list that I have the couples fill out with before and after standard and optional shots. Only when they fill this out do I make an estimate on the timing.
In your example, does the bride want each bridesmaid photographed by herself and then with the Bride and perhaps a groom. The same thing holds true for the Groom's side. Your timing may be adjusted based on the requirements.
Lastly, my personal preference is to do all the shots involving the Bride as early as possible and then have her "sequestered" until the ceremony. It is not as important that the arriving guests see the maids or the guys, but the bride should make a grand entrance and be seen by as few people as possible beforehand.
Also, build in slack to allow for traffic and people not being ready when told.

 7.
TM, I shoot RAW for exposure latitude. Bringing back details is easier when shooting in RAW because unlike JPEG which allows 256 tonal gradations (1-255). RAW allows 4096 gradations, if memory serves me right. I don't worry about memory storage anymore as memory prices are dropping daily.

 8.
This post brings up a couple of my photography pet peeves. I hate looking at photographs and rather than enjoying the lighting, composition, framing, etc. I want to start to figure out what action they used to make this look happen. My biggest pet peeve is actually figuring out exactly the technique they used, like TRA or Kubota actions. I hate that.

 9.
Patty, in these situations I always establish an order of importance. The photographer that the Bride hires is always in charge, unless noted otherwise. Videographers are always second on the totem pole. I photographed an Indian/Hindu combination wedding last year, where the bride hired myself and a 2nd and the groom's family hired two photographers as well. Also, there were no joke, 5 videographers with with heavy duty tripods. Talk about staying put so you wouldn't get into other's line of sight.

 10.
I am a big fan of Millers Lab Bookmonline.com it is free and I was able to integrate it with my web and weblog.
I've also heard about Venture Datasafe http://www.venturedatasafe.com/ It is based on File Maker Pro 10, so I am also looking into developing my own DB schema and frontend to suit my needs, but the 3.0 version looks robust, but a little awkward. If you are a DWF member, there is a good discount for Datasafe.
With Datasafe, you pay money upfront vs. $30/month & $40/month with Tave and Shootq, respectively.

 11.
Stephen, she used your images because your images were probably superior. Also, consider what you may do in this situation in 10 years, when you are employing 30 staff photographers and one of them asks, "Stephen why did you use MY image and not something from previous wedding?". What is you response going to be?
BTW: Congrats on the question of the day. You probably thought you would garner several responses and now you are up 20. I am waiting for this to blow up and for Obama to be asked at the next presser what he thought about the photographer for whom Stephen works? ;)

 12.
Stephen, you can't hold the other photog. liable for usage of your own wedding images...unless you've had a previous agreement. I can't imagine any hiring photographer would limit image usage, unless he really really likes you or you are really really good.
