  1. i have posted a similar question about a not so similar picture

before. i asked for some criticism from a photographer i highly

respect, and he thought that the few pictures that i showed him

should have been cropped. not concerned with technical quality,

blurrieness, but he thought that this would be a more effective

picture as one of just the guy in the center. my style has been to

show as much of a scene as possible, to give context, and tell the

story, also, i think its more interesting to have lots

of 'minipictures' within one image. what do you think? would it be

more effective if i hadnt gotten the other 'distractions'? what do

you think henri cartier bresson or tony dummett sould have done?

heres the critique request from the other picture that i had similar

question about, although it is totally different, i disagreed with a

few others over wether the shot should be more focused

  2. i am a huge fan of Henri Cartier Bresson and photo.net's own Tony

Dummett. i look for a picture that captures emotion, maybe tells me

something about a person, or reminds me of something. i dont want to

be really anal here, i know this is all a matter of opinion. when i

started working for my high school newspaper 3 years ago, i was told

as a rule of thumb never to have more than 4 people in a photo. the

editor was a moron. that is not, by anyone in question. i never

listened to her. a friend of mine, a professional photographer was

looking at my work, and thought that all of my stuff should have been

shot much closer, in more detail. for example, this photo, he would

have broken up into a few different pictures if he was shooting it,

the girls putting on makeup, and the guy holding his had. individual

shots with less clutter. less distraction. more detail of what is

important. i could have stuck my camera in the guys nose had i

wanted to, but i like this series od backstage pictrures because of

the other "clutter" the scene, as well as the person? although a

person can tell a story, i think it is more easily told including the

context. am i wrong here? was the moron photo editor right? would

she be in agreement with the professional whom i look up to so much?

is it so obvious to the rest of the world that i should have gotten

closer? i think this is my style, completely opposite from another

one of my favorites steve mccurry, but i think it works. what do you

think Henri Cartier bresson would say? or Tony Dummett?

thanks for your time and input

  3. i took a similar shot, not as good, i think you should have this in the photo caption that this is the bridge from the plaza to 7 world trade, and 5 world trade is the black building in the reflection. i just thought that this would be interesting for people to see in the future. by the way, this is deffinately not reversed, i like the sign being the way passers by would have seen it.
  4. i like the bee, if it wasn't there i wouldnt have been able to take the picture, so i leave him in i guess because of gratitude? but i like the apartment buildings in his glasses, looks like his apartment in the city, as opposed to where he lives in the country, like the duality of andy. thanks
  5. well, my two favorite photographers on this site, kiet vuong and tony drummet, disagree almost bitterly, i guess if you guy's put your heads together you wouldnt make some sort of superhuman photographic genius, but would rather cancel eachother out. i wonder what Miguel Mealha, Dan Heller, and Daniel Bayer have to say about this!

im with tony on this one, i think its boring, regardless, much respect to you all.
