1.
Hi Folks,
I am new to RF cameras. I just bought two Contax G lenses - 90mm f2.8 and 45mm f2. I am using them on my Panasonic G1 at the moment.

I can get hold of a good Contax G1 for a very reasonable price (hence the reason for considering to buy). I read a lot bad reports about the AF problem with this camera, especially with the 90mm lens. In your views, is it still a very good camera for general street photography?

Thanks.
2.
The D2H is well know for its weak IR filter, so I am curious just how bad it is to UV-IR contamination. Using my D2H + Marumi UV-IR Cut filter on a Sigma 28mm f1.8 AF lens, I took some images of a black camera bag to see the effect of cutting out the unwanted light.
The positive side:
1) It really works! :o Black comes out truly black at low ISO. At higher ISO it is still closer to the true colour.
2) Images seems to be sharper at 3:1 zoom at ISO below 800. It is really not that obvious at 1:1.3) Works under strong sunlight or tungsten lighting.
The negative side
1) Can be an expensive filter to get, especially HQ ver. Mine is middle of the road at $54.
2) There seem to be more green noise. I was expecting an overall small reduction in noise level. I am puzzled by this. It could be that there is more yellow / warm coloured noise without the filter, so with the filter on, it is showing more green coloured noise at higher ISO?

Sorry for the poor art work.

Let me know what you think?

*****************************************************************************

*****************************************************************************

*****************************************************************************

 3.
Hi Ramon, Bill,
No. What I did is to improvise. I covered my head with a jacket and I got really closed to the bird feeders. About 2m away kneeling down on the ground. I pre-focused on blue feeder and waited for the right moment. The one mistake I did is to set the shutter speed at CL instead of CH. Otherwise I could have captured more of the drama!

 5.
Hi Lex,
That's extremely helpful tips. Exactly what I am looking for. I will give all of those settings a try.
However, regarding the minus flash compensation. I doubt it will work in my case as I will be using a cloud version of Gary Fong's light sphere with amber dome. So in my case I think the power of the flash is already much reduced. But I will check the exposure curve.
Cheers
6.
Well, I do appreciate your insights. But let me put it this way to you...If I had refused to do it, then she only has friends and families who will take the shots. So which would be worst, someone like me to take the shots, or hope for best for the photos taken from compact cameras taken by friends and family??
What I will do is to discuss in detail and openly what her expectations are and what I can realistically achieve for her. Can't do better than this.
I never really like shooting with flashes, and I have already shell out some funds to buy more equipments for the event. So, really my friend can't ask for more.
BTW I am not a complete rookie. I have take many images for some years, and I have won two local photographic competitions twice already. Also to be fair, my question is reasonably specific.
Here are some examples:

None are portrait shots. But I have some experience last year taking shots at a BBQ.
I am only looking for some general helpful tips on wedding photography using D2H and SB-600. I don't expect miracles and I know the risks.

 7.
Hi Bob and Maurice,
No, for some strange reason, my friend do not want any Pro around asking her to do poses? So it kind of puts a little more pressure on me. But I will make sure she understands the "risk".
Thanks for the tips. I have just got his book now called "On Camera Flash Techniques for Digital Wedding and Portrait Photography"

Cheers.

 8.
Hi Folks,
I have been asked by my friend to take some informal/documentary shots at her wedding. I am planning to use my D2H, 28mm f1.8 and SB-600 gear (BTW I also will be taking my F90x and Tamron 17mm f3.5 and Nikkor 105mm f2.5 as well for backup and for shooting tight group shots, plus YONGNUO 465 flash + Panny G1 just in case). I also have Gary Fong's diffusion dome with amber or chrome covers.
I am a rookie when it comes to using electronic flash. My question is, for indoor shots at the registry and reception would this seeing be appropriate?
Raw quality for all shots
ISO 250 - max ISO 640, depending on distance.
Aperture - f4
Flash - this is where I am stuck. Which one should use? standard TTL, or BL TTL or TTL with rear curtain sync?
I am reading up on a number of books at the moment, including Joe Buissink's tips.
Thanks for the advise.

 9.
Hi folks I do appreciate your insights and concerns. Just to clarify (and I did not want to bring this up but since you folks have done so) I will be using my Nikon D2H equipped with a 28mm f1.8 AF and SB-600 flash as my main body. For back up I have Nikon F90x + a range of lenses - 17mm f3.5 MF, 50mm f1.8 AF and 105mm f3.5 MF. Also I have the Panny G1 with kit lens. I will also buy a back up TTL flash and battery for the Nikon. So for most shots it will be the on the Nikon body, but I wanted to bring my Olympus gear for outdoor group shoots and in tight indoor situation.
I did not want to get into this. My focus was on the suitability of the Oly gear for groups shots. If 21mm f3.5 is too wide, then I will take the 24mm f2.8. So I guess I am not depending on films.
I did ask the bride, but unusually she did not want anyone professional at her wedding. She hates posing for formal shots.

 10.
Hi Folks,
Just got myself a very nice OM-4Ti recently (but needs CLA) and I have been asked by friend to take some shots at her wedding. As far as I know the F280 flash does not have that wide of a coverage for indoor church and reception environments. Any advise? I also have the T-32 and a couple of T-20s + TTL cords.
Is it possible to get a WA diffuser for the F-280?
In this kind of environment, would you bother with multi-spot metering? Where is the best place to read/learn more about using Oly cameras for weddings?
The recycling time for these flashes (except the T-20) in general are not great right?

Cheers,
Si

 11.
Hi Folks,
I am totally new to flash photography. I thinking about investing in flash. Which one of these would be better for general indoor portrait photography to go with the D2H? Am I at a significant disadvantage for not having a SB-xxx make use of i-TTL technology?
Can SB-28DX be used with D3 or D7000 when I upgrade later?
Thanks,
Si.

 12.
Hi Folks,
Can someone recommend a good set of AF lenses (Canon or third party) to buy to go with the 5D camera. A decent WA and fast portrait lens are needed. My friend is asking this question and she has €1000 to spend on gear.
The only obvious lens that comes into mind is: Canon EOS 24-105mm f4 USM L IS
Cheers.
