  1. Hi Pierre,

I think you're out of luck. This happened with my d70s and an extreme III card. Really stunk. It was my first time using it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my camera, it was just a dud card. I don't use that card any more, all get is the CHA and "this card cannot be used." I was able to shoot over 200 photos with mine before it failed. No warning or anything. I was pretty bummed...especially because someone's wedding photos were on it! I'm working with a data recovery service now.

  2. Sorry, Extreme III...typing fast, didn't proof read. And yes, I formatted it right out of the box, with the D70s, took over 200 shots, then got the error message. I just spoke to sandisk, they are saying nothing can be done since rescue pro didn't work and my card readers can't read it. I'm just very very frudtrated, all the older posts I've read about corupt cards indicate the users had problems right from the beginning, not after shooting a couple hundred images.
  3. I recently purchased two sandrisk extreme II CF cards from adorama. I used

one, took about 200 shots and then got message "CHA" and "this card cannot be

used." This happend before on an old card that I won't used for anything

special, and with than one, i lost one photo, but the rest were okay and never

had a problem recovering them later. This time, i have not been able to

recover anything. I hooked the camera to my pc, used my external card reader,

and used the recovery disk that came with the card from sandisk...still

nothing. I am extremely furstrated. According to sandisk's website, this is a

problem with my camera, not the card, however, during the recovery process, i

am getting a message indicating the card is damages. Anyone have any

experience with this? Does the D70s support this card? Any adivce??

    Thanks

  4. I need some suggest/resources for a wedding guest book. I the album I offer

is Tap's parade signature book- It's 12 pages or so and each page holds a

wallet photo with room for signatures. The couple I met with today wants it,

but the only one Tap sells is black and they prefer white or ivory. Any

suggestions? Looking for something not too pricey, the book I offer, I charge

$50 including the 12 wallets needed to fill it. Thanks!

  5. Will they be seeing each other before the ceremony? You could have the groom at the end with his back to the bride. Have the bride walk down, tap him on the shoulder so he turns around to see her for the first time. Snap photos as it all happens.

Get a boat for the groom and have him row to his bride, bring a stereo (with batteries) and get them to dance- probably easier if you have an assistance, bring fishing rod....chances are if you mset something up, they'll run with it if they have asked for "humorous" photos.

    Post some when you're done!

  6. Hi Tammie,

I've presented both ways. I have a space to meet with clients, but always offer to meet them somewhere more convenient. I always bring my laptop and two albums. They see the albums first and I will offer to show the DVD slideshow on my laptop. I have never gotten complaints. If a couple doesn't request to see it, I always refer to my website, were most of the photos are as well as links to view complete weddings. I always show both, because many couples want to see an album, especially if they are meeting with me in person. Get a nice canvas bag that your laptop and a couple (or just one, maybe?) album can slip in, contract, and what ever else you might bring. It might be a lot to lug around, but worth it!

  7. My print credits are part of a set package. For example, I offer a 6 hour package, which includes a set # of enlargements. If the bride decides she wants additional prints, she can order them. I have told brides who may want to order a large variety of additional prints that I can put together a custom print package. On top of that, I offer a discount of 25% for orders placed within a certain amount of time after the wedding. I haven't gotten any complaints about this structure...as of yet. As far as pricing changes, the package price remains the same once the contract is signed. I haven't changed my print prices in a while, and have not intentions to at this time.
  8. Taking a survey or trying to find out what works for people?<br> <br>

    - Nikon, D200, D70, D70s <br>

    - 50mm 1.8, 17-35mm 2.8, 28-70mm 2.8 and 70-200mm 2.8, I'll switch it up for outdoor weddings, and pack 8 lenses for all weddings.<br>

    -SB800 (2 of them) and a SB600 (don't use much)<br>

-One thing I'd never be without on a shoot/wedding- my camera...but I'd never be with just ONE thing...cameras (plural) lenses, flashes, brackets, lightspheres, monopod, tripod, water, sync cords, batteries, batteries, batteries, memory cards, harddrive, blower, lens cloth, water, belt, business cards, light meter, addresses, maps, cell phone, water. <br><br>

This gets asked a lot and everyone always says pretty much the same thing.

  9. I tried picaboo, made an album for my inlaws from my wedding photos. They loved it, but I wasn't overly impressed with the quality. I tried it out on a client- designed a large album, and got the smaller one free. I sent them the small one and they loved it, so ordered the larger one. It's okay for couples who might want an album and can't afford asukabook or something of equal quality, but considering what picaboo charges for the book & shipping, plus your time putting it together, I think you'd end up charging more than what someone would want to pay for one of their books. They can design something similar at snapfish or ofoto for $20 (or something?)
  10. Hi Rob, as far as my input...I post all of my proofs online (also on exposure manager) and haven't heard any complaints about guests having to shift through hundreds of photos. I've also had random guests order photos of themselves dancing or whatever, that may not have made your "cut" but, in my case, I was able to make a few extra bucks.

I've only used the photo voucher option a couple of times, and in my case, I usually do it as a gift for couples, so they never put any money out upfront for tax, shipping etc. The last one I did, I added a $5 shipping credit as well. It's hard to determine something like that because you'll never know what shipping option they might want. That customer's shipping total came to just over $8, so he had to pay $3+ and I didn't get any compaints about it.

Just my two cents, probably not very helpful....

  11. My lab recently started offering metallic prints, so I ordered a few to see

how they look. I got about a dozen from an engagement shoot I did a couple of

week ago. I was more impressed with the black and white than with the color

prints. My question is, do you have a lot of customers asking for metallic

prints? Also, do you show your bride & groom different finishes- glossy,

lustre, etc. when you're showing them your work so they can consider what they

might want as a final product? All of my proofs I do in matte finish and

customers have only ever purchased glossy or matte from me before. Thanks!

  12. I had a card fail once, but I only use 1G and 2G cards, it was the 1G that failed, and after several attempts, ended up getting all but 10 images back. I wouldn't use anything higher that a 2G for this reason. I too use a D200 and shoot in RAW, but I get more that 40 images with 1G???? I'm a little stumped by your info? I want to say just more that 80- but I don't have my camera right here to check. I also use a portable hard drive to transfer images to throughout the wedding, but never to overwrite the cards. I don't delete/format my cards until I need to use them again for another wedding, after they've been transferred to my PC and backed up on discs. The portable harddrive is just an extra back up in case a card gets lost (hasn't happened, but better safe than sorry). My advice would be to get lower gig cards, back those up once they're full, but make sure you have enough so you don't have to use any card twice during an event. But that's just me.
  13. A similar thing happened to me not that long ago. A bride emailed in June, gave her a quick quote, and never heard back. The 3 weeks before her wedding she called in a panic and wanted to know if I was still available. I was, she was happy, was going to mail the contract. Didn't get it. A week and a half before her wedding, contacted her again. She said she needed to make changes, would overnight it that day. Still didn't get it. Finally, just 5 days before her wedding, sent a firm email stating I was still available, and I understood this was a very hectic time. If she still intended for me to do her wedding, she needed to fax the contract to me within 48 hours and be prepared with full payment in cash when I arrived (a chance I'm willing to take.) She finally contacted me shortly after saying she found someone to do it on a barter agreement. Great! I was relieved, because I wasn't sure I wanted to deal with the whole thing, but if she agreed to my terms, I would have gone. It would have a been a nice experience, even if I never got paid- although she would not have gotten any wedding photos!
  14. This gets asked about once a week. Depends on your camera, more mega pixels= need for more memory, raw=more memory, etc. I use a D70s and D200, carry 15gigs in 1 & 2 gig cards and portable hard drive that clips to my belt for back up. I've never used more than 8 gigs at a wedding...that I can recall anyway.
  15. Trust your gut, if you feel like maybe you're being intrusive, you most likely are. As someone above mentioned, with church weddings, you generally limitted to the center aisle or balcony. I recently shot a wedding with no center aisle, and a videographer who took up the two aisles and almost the entire balcony with his equipment...sometimes you need to be creative and use a long lens! As are as when there are not restrictions, I try not to go past the first several pews/rows, never go infront of the bridal party, B or G or behind the officiant. While the bride and groom may not mind, it's really distracting for the guests. I've also met with a lot of couples who complain about weddings they've attended and the crazy things the photographer did during the day just to get a good shot. just be happy you didn't have the restictions that you're sure to encounter later on, and be mindful of being distracting in the future.
  16. Well...now that I've sorted the photos, first glance I thought there was an extra set...there is THREE extra sets. I'll be calling the lab in the morning. Chances are they won't want them back, and I don't think I should have to pay to ship them back....so I may be passing extras on to the bride and being creative with the rest! Either way, I will let them know, this could be a major expense for them if someone is screwing up orders.
  17. I just got a set of proofs back from the lab, and thought it was odd they sent

four boxes. When I opened them, I was a bit overwhelmed and realized they

must have sent two sets of prints. I haven't gone throuh all of them yet, but

it looks like this was the case. I double checked and wasn't charged for

them. Question is, do I hang on to them, only to possibly end up tossing most

of them down the road (I certainly don't need ALL of them!), send them to the

bride as a bonus, ask if she wants to purchase them? I'm leaning towards just

sending them to her, but I don't want to overwhelm her with too many photos.

I'll divide them up, maybe put one set in the nice presentation boxes I use,

and the other packaged a bit more simple? Any advice? Sorry for such a silly

    question!
