  1. Late night urban landscape, taken in Sao Paulo. The little red casting

is due to the lights on the street reflecting on the haze over the

city. Exposition was 15 seconds, holding the camera against the wall

(I couldn't remember quickly where was the minitripod). The building

on the left, for me, adds depthness (if this word doesn't exist in

english, pardon me please, english is not my mother tongue) to the

picture, which otherwise would bee too "flat" for me. Any comment or

    critique is much welcome!

  2. The title goes in resemblance to Anton Checkhov's short story. The

white zone on top left corner is because the bridge's side was

painted in white, and the sunlight -in front of me- created a very

bright spot on the place. I could have darkened it on PS, but I don't

like to manipulate images too much aside from an acceptable black and

    white.

Any comment is welcome! Thanks in advance,

    Sebastian.

    Corridor

          3

Well, this is a picture of a corridor at night, a 15s exposure at ISO

50 with a Samsung L73 digicam. The red cast is not a digital

manipulation, is the cast from a rainy day and the sodium lamps of the

city. It was taken with a tripod of course, and only brightness and

contrast, and some recovery light, were the settings modificated using

Lightroom. The image has not been cropped at all, nor any effect added.

The main point is the perspective given by a low-level placed point of

view on a closed corridor, which gives an interesting perspective of

an otherwise almost mundane subject, and also the very interesting

lighting of the city at night.

Any comment is much appreciated. Thanks in advance and best regards!

  3. Than you very much for your compliments and comments! Anthony, yes, a small amount of USM would be right. I saw the small lack of sharpness -perhaps given to the atmosphere, remember, it's winter here, despite the sun there is some humidity on the air hehe-, and I finaly decided to not initially apply USM. But, I neither saw how it would be with some USM applied, so I will see how the image turns with USM applied.

Olaf, I see your cropping on the left side. Indeed, your cropping is an excelent idea, and probably the final image will have the crop you made, since it takes away that unnecesary bright spot on the car -a detail to which I didn't pay enough attention-, and helps in centering the attention on the position of the sun and shadows on the frame. It's a very good idea, thank you very much indeed!

With best regards, and thanks again,

    Sebastian.

Well, it's difficult to say that there is something really bad, because, for what I can see, the subject is not the best, nor is the environment. However, having seen some machinery shots, I can say that a more creative framing could have been done, squeezing a more interesting picture. For example, a wide angle (less than a 35mm... consider a 24mm or a 21mm), framed from the bottom of the "wheels" (I don't know the exact word in english for those things that are in place of wheels, sorry really), could have delivered a more interesting perspective.

Another thing is that, as I see it, in a calibrated monitor, the picture is a little over exposed. All detail in the pavemens and ground surrounding the tractor has been lost, and the roof of the house on the back is preety blown up. There could be a little more saturation, and a little more contrast (in colour, I'm used to Velvia kind of look, with rich and saturated colours). Perhaps a little time with PS, Gimp, Paint.net or any image editing software that allows you to work with colours can fix this last point.

Otherwise, it is a nice picture of an old tractor. The main problem, I think, is that is is that, and just that!

With best regards, and I hope this helps!

    Sebastian.

  4. Well, I come from film world, and this is my very first digital

camera, a Samsung L73, with which I am doing my first efforts to get

something similar to an acceptable image :-). This image has no

cropping nor digital manipulation except for the black and white

treatment and contrast/brightness, made with Lightroom. The framing is

mainly my point in this picture, despite the obvious problems of

shooting with a 1/1.8" sensor (mainly the lack of out of focus zones).

The shot was made at the wide end of the zoom, and I saw the lighting,

and while I was setting the ISO and adjusting exposure, I saw the

couple, so I waited for the shadow to be on the left bottom corner,

and sun on the upper right corner. I was a bit lucky, I admit it,

since I took only this shot. No cropping at all was made. Any critique

is very welcome please! With best regards, Sebastian.

  5. This picture was taken at night, with the standard lens of the Yashica

FX-3 Super 200 lens, the Yashica 50mm ML 1.9, exposed for 1s handheld.

The point, is that an adequate use of light can make almost anything a

subject. The subject of this photo is as mundane as it can get,

however it turned out into a nice picture. Your critiques are very

    welcome please.

  6. Just a couple of blocks away from a very high level and expensive

neighbourhood. For the eye looking for it, the social differences are

at a blink of an eye in Sao Paulo.

    Any critic is welcomed please.

    Sao Paulo, 2006

          4

Thanks for commenting! After this picture I shot a small 4-picture series in this very same place that I will upload to my portfolio. Not very well taken, but interesting for what's happening. In a couple of days or so it will be on my portfolio

It was shot very fast, so I didn't had too much time to properly frame the picture. And the problem with the focus is because the picture was taken when I was testing the Jupiter 8 50/2, which showed alignment problems. This picture particularly is one of the best focused pictures because it was shot at f/16, but the ones taken at full aperture values, are completely out of focus.

I blame myself for not having on the camera the Leitz Summitar I usually mount on it.

These days, the Jupiter 8 is properly aligned and it is taking nice pictures, although the Leitz Summitar is really nice in B&W film.

    Thanks!

    Cheers

Only adjusted contrast and brightness to see it like it is in paper,

at least in my monitor ;)

The lens was pre-set at f/16, focused at hyperfocal distance. No light

meter used at all, exposure was guess-estimated by "sunny f/16" rule.

    The Wall

          1

Taken in Sao Sebastiao, a historical city in Sao Paulo state, Brazil.

The city was a port of slaves, and currently the part of the city

where this picture was taken is maintained without modifications.

    Conversation.

          1

I was not sure of this photo belongs to Portraits or Street. But since

I know the two persons in the photo, the photo is specific although

spontaneus (they did not realize about the photo until they listened

the noise of the camera), I decided that the photo is more a Portrait

    than anything else.

However, the idea was not to isolate the persons, but the fact that is

between them -the conversation-. So, the photo is a portrait of a

    conversation, not of two woman.

Please, any comments will be welcomed.

    Thanks!

    Sebastian.

    Woman's Portrait

          1

This picture was pretty spontaneus. Saw the woman, said "stay like

that" and shot. The light comes from a lamp on the right of the

picture. It could be improved I know, but I'd like to know your critics.

    good menu

          13

I don't think If I'd pust this photo under Architecture or under Street. The fact that it is manipulated and that there are persons in the photo makes me think that this belongs more to Street photography than to Architecture photography, though the architecture of the building on the background is impressive.

And, a side note, I don't like the little color stamp on the lower right corner.

As a street picture, is a very good picture. As an architecture picture, I do not like it so much.

    Best regards

But seems to me there is too much PS manipulation there... although is a matter of tastes. Anyways, the picture is very well performed. Congratulations.
