  1. Peter, thanks again for your interest - You are right to asume that I have Photoshop (elements only) but I do not normally use this to print my photographs. I usually use the standard Windows XP print program which allows very few adjustment but generally produces excellent results from my Canon printer.

No doubt there is a lot to learn ( what on earth is "relative colorimetric rendering intent "... LOL) but I will experiment using Photoshop to see if this can solve the problems I have on the other printer

  2. <p>Peter, Thanks for your interest - I don't know about "pigment printer" but I will give the cartridge a good shake anyway : Paper information (i.e Photo Glossy) was entered prior to printing but I'm not sure that constitutes a "profile" : Could you elaborate ?? <br>

Since my first post I have tried again with the print set to 1200dpi which eliminated the lines but the colour is still "off"</p>

  3. <p>I normally print my pictures A4 size on a Canon Pixma which I am very happy with but occasionally I require a larger (A3) print <br>

My alternative printer - an HP Deskjet 1220c used to give equally impressive results but was in storage for 2 years following a house move. I have just re-installed it and fitted previously unused ink cartridges (albeit now 2 1/2 years out of date)<br>

My first test image for printing on the 1220 was http://www.photo.net/photo/14236332&size=lg <br>

A scan of the print :- http://www.photo.net/photo/14762413&size=lg illustrates my problem - very poor colour reproduction (being tinted orange/brown) with noticeable lines (particularly @ bottom L )<br>

I dont think the the age of the ink cartridge is critical but, having cleaned the nozzles and run the standard HP Nozzle Pattern Test (OK), I am now looking for suggestions to clear the problem which remains as bad as ever.</p>

  4. <p>I was very suprised to hear that you are unable to open CR2 files in Photoshop CS3 - I only use Elements 7 (with no such problems) so I was prompted to search the net and found many possible solutions<br />The best seems to be on this site:- <a href="http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-57723-photoshop-cs3-can-t-open-raw-files">http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-57723-photoshop-cs3-can-t-open-raw-files</a> and I quote as follows :-<br />"To install with Adobe Creative Suite 3 or Photoshop CS3: <br />1. Exit Photoshop CS3. <br />2. Open My Computer. <br />3. Double-click Local Disk (C:). <br />4. Navigate to: c:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats <br />5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back. <br />6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as in step 4. <br />7. Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge. <br /><br />Note: If generic camera thumbnails appear in Adobe Bridge, follow these steps: <br /><br />1. Check to make sure the plug-in was installed in the correct directory in step 4 above. <br />2. Start Bridge. <br />3. Choose Tools > Cache > Purge Central Cache. <br /><br />OK. Now, I can open the .CR2 Raw files in Adobe Photoshop CS3. "<br>

    I hope this helps</p>

  6. I quite understand Lawrence's concerns and despondency with the lack of feedback received on this site. I do not expect members always to have the time or inclination to comment on my work but I regard HONEST ratings as a useful guide to my progress in the craft of photography and post processing.

Of course this means there need be sufficient numbers (say 10) to obtain a sensible average and thats the big problem - 2, 3 or 4 ratings received lately are quite meaningless.

Ken Stoecklin said "If your work gets very few ratings High or Low then the work didn't really grab anyone anyway so it might require some rethinking" and that may be true but I suspect it has more to do with the fact that ( to quote Josh Root) almost 1000 images a day are submitted to the critique forum:

Maybe it IS time to cut this back and allow (say) 2 new critique request per member per day: I generally don't have the time ( or experience) to comment on many images but I certainly intend to increase my rating activity and I hope others will do likewise

  7. YES ! ...There certainly is something wrong with the site - about 20% of my portfolio (mostly the later additions) has gone AWOL :Could somebody,PLEASE ,let us know whats going on or, better still, sort it out !
