To Larry who asked about types of whales:
The most common whales seen are Grey, which are resident year round but more common in spring and summer.
Orca's are also seen in spring - fall, and less commonly seen are Humpbacks.

If you are considering the Nagano suggestions listed above, the neighboring province of Gifu is also a very good bet. Less people, lots of beautiful mountains, monkeys, goats, etc. with a good mix of traditional Japanese villages (Takayama, Gujo Hachiman, Shirakawa). A great thing to do would be to do a multiple day hike through the Northern Alps - you can either tent or go from lodge to lodge. A good starting spot is Mount OkuHotaka, then head north for as long as you like - all above treeline (but it can be difficult hiking in places). I just posted a photo from the village of Shirakawa on photo.net
If you want more detailed info. e-mail me.

Once you get out to the west coast, check out some of the old native villages in the Hazleton, Rupert area (eg. Kitwanga) - lots of cool historic buildings, totems etc. If you haven't used all your time in Banff, a trip to the Queen Charlotte Islands would be worth the time - Skedans village and Ninstints are very interesting. Once your on the ferry to P. Hardy be on the lookout for schools of porpoises and orcas. On Van. Island, Robsons Bight (North Island) is a very famous spot for orca viewing/photography as the whales come into shallow water to scratch their bellies.

Cold Weather battery Life - 10d
in Canon EOS Mount
Posted
Has anyone had experience using the 10d in cold weather? I'm aware
that battery life is shortened, and they don't recomend using it
below 0 C, but has anyone tried it? How did your battery last?
Thanks for your help.
