1. Hi All,

I bought a lens before doing all my homework on the R system and I know now it's a 2 cam lens and my plan for my

R system is to shoot with an R8 so I was wondering if it is possible to convert it to a 3 cam lens and what's a

ballpark cost for the conversion? It's a 35 Elmarit-R so it's not an earth shatteringly expensive lens but if

it's affordable to convert it I'd rather do that than shell out for another lens and have to deal with selling

    this one.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jim

  2. Hi All,

I've been looking in to getting set up to do some wildlife work and I'm torn a bit. Subjects will be animals,

usually in parks and preserves. I tend to gravitate toward bigger birds like hawks, herons, waterfowl, etc.

I've been looking into Nikon glass as I have some limited 35mm and digital but I'd like to go about 400mm and the

only way I can do that well is with manual focus and none of my current bodies can meter with manual lenses (and

even with AF lenses it'd be slow so I'd wind up using MF anyway most likely.) So I'd be looking at a body and

lens or a 300mm AF lens plus a TC.

I've also been looking at getting in to the Mamiya 645 (Pro TL with motordrive) system and I can get the reach I

want with the Mamiya 500mm lens and maybe a TC too. Since I'll be focusing manually I might as well get a bigger

negative out of the deal. Cost wise it comes out similar to the Nikon solutions above (I buy KEH BGN 99.9% of the

    time).

    So my questions are:

Has anyone shot wildlife with this type of setup before?

    What were your experiences?

Any other suggestions about MF and wildlife?

    Thanks and take care,

    Jim

  3. Thanks for the suggestions...sorry I didn't give better details. This will be a homebase

kind of bag. Just to transport everything and store it safely. I'll take what I need for

the day or event and put it in a smaller bag or just sling it over my shoulder.

  4. Easier to read gear list:

  5. Hi All,

I have a trip coming up and I'm looking for a bag recommendation. We're traveling by car to North

Carolina. This bag will be "homebase" for my gear with the day's needs going in a smaller bag or

over the shoulder, etc. I'd like a shoulder bag and here's what I have to get in it:

    Leica M6 with lens mounted

    Nikon D40 with 18-55 mounted

    Nikon N80 with 50/1.8 mounted

    Nikon 70-300VR

    Nikon 24-85G

    Nikon SB-600

    Charger for D40

    10 Rolls of Film

I've been looking online till me head spins so any guidance in appreciated.

    Take care,

    Jim

  6. Hi All,

After a short fling with a Bronica I'm succumbing to the siren call of the

'Blad. In planning out my kit I've come across the 500mm TeleTessar (not the

APO version). I understand it's got some fringing issues but other than that

how does it rate? I'd love to hear anyone's experiences with it or see some

samples if you have any to share.

I know the Tele-ApoTessar is a great lens but it's out of my league budget wise

but I think it's be great to have that focal length in MF. After all I've heard

that Victor invented the Hassy to take better bird pictures so it'd be great to

go back to the root of things and shoot some wildlife.

    Take care,

  7. Hi All,

I'm going to purchase a Speedlight for my N80, and as a recent Canon

convert I must say that Nikon's flash lineup can be a bit confusing

but I think I have it straight now. I recently found an SB-28 and

was just about settled on it but I came across the SB-25. It's

available cheaper than the SB-28 and seems to have most of the same

features and I plan on purchasing an F4 in the near future so it would

be nice to only have to buy one flash unit. My questions are: how much

will I lose by going with the older flash? Will the 25 have any issues

with the N80? Also I toyed with the sb-28 in the store, does the sb-25

work much the same? Thanks in advance for all your help.

    Take care,

  8. Hi All,

I was surfing around last night and I can across Vivitars TTL macro

    ringlight flash.

    <A href

    Vivitar Ringlight at B&H

I was wondering if anyone has ever used one of these and what they

though of it. Im assuming that it will do full TTL (not E-TTL

though) on my Elan II. I dont do that much macro and at B&H its

$100 vs. $450 for the Canon MR-14EX and the Vivitar has a greater

guide no. as well. Any info would be much appreciated.

    Thanks and take care,
Jim
