  1. <p>I am looking for any tips or trick on how to shoot this.<br>

The shoot will be of 2 black 08 SRT-4 cars in front of a lake. There will be a model with each car. I am going to be using 2 Canon speedlite 580ex flashes for strobes.<br>

I was thinking of having the cars parked in a "V" pattern.<br>

Any pointers or ideas on the lighting of this?<br>

I was considering using my large light stands and shoot the light down towards the cars/models at a hight of ~15'.</p>

  2. <p>Thank you for the suggestions.<br>

The personal photos is something I didn't think of. My house will be a pain removing all those photos from each room.<br>

With our house, both the living room and rec room have flat panel TVs mounted on the wall in areas where they will be in any decent photos. Should I photoshop them out? Taking them down would expose the wall brackets.<br>

For the garage photo, take the sports car out I am assuming?</p>

  3. <p>I have been asked by our realtor to do some photographs of our house as well a few others she is selling. <br>

I have done interior photos before, but never specifically realtor photos. <br>

What I am looking for are the does and don'ts. <br>

I am assuming photos showing alarm panels is a bad idea, what else should I be avoiding?</p>

  4. <p>How are people handling flying to the US with one or no carry-ons.<br>

I personally do not check camera gear, so I am wondering how people are dealing with this traveling mess.<br>

I may be making a major carreer change, jumping from technology to full time traveling photographer for my company. This would require me to travel to almost 50 different countries visiting ~65 offices.</p>

  5. <p>I recently had to re-install Windows XP on my system (not planned). I had re-installed on a new HDD, so I have all my filed from the other drive in tacts still.<br>

Does anyone know how to import the Photoshop actions and/or what files to look for?<br>

As mentioned, this was not planned, so I did not have a chance to export my settings before re-installing my software.</p>

  6. This may be more a creative problem then a technical one.

I am trying to do some studio stills of a mountain bike. Not a catalog white background kind of shot.

The problem I am having is that I would like to light the bike, while leaving the background as dark as I can.

If this was a car, a softbox or two would work. A motorcycle, I would use snoots and adjust accordingly. Now a

mountain bike frame really does not have anything to aim lights at.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could do this shot, and obtain the 'wow' factor that I could reasonably obtain

with shooting a car or motorcycle?

  7. I had posed 3 photos a few weeks ago, and noticed that the time viewed appear to

    be off.

    Is this a bug?

  8. I am currently in the market for a GPS unit to both tag my photos (shot with a

Canon 30D), and to track my travels via mountain bike /quad/snowmachine (99%

    of the time off-road).

The area I am concerned with is the tagging of photos, as this is a very new

    concept to me.

Can a relitivly standard handheld GPS unit tag photos?

Is there a make/model I should look at that would allow both tagging and in hand

    location display?

  9. This should hopefully be a quick question.

Does anyone know the values, or where to find the light output of both the Canon

Speedlite 430EX and 580 II EX flashguns?

I tried checking the Canon Site, but was unable to locate anything close to an

    output power rating.

    Thank you,

    Mike

  10. This may be a bit of an opinion based question.

I am going to be putting together a portable lighting kit for on location

    photos (portrait, group, etc).

Currently, my wife and I are debating over a portable 2 flash studio system, or

a pair of SpeedLite flash guns on light stands.

Both our cameras are Canons, and I currently own a Speedlite 430ex.

Are there any benefits to using a studio strobe kit vs. a couple Speedlite

    flash guns?

Are there any major disadvantages to using a pair of flash guns with wireless

    transmitters?

I personally am leaning towards the Speedlite setup, as it will be my back

carrying these things to remote sites.

My wife wants the studio setup for the modeling lights.

    Thank you,

    Mike

  11. The reason I am asking is that I am not doing this for a living, nor have I ever done photos for hire. This is a hobby, which is actually going to pay for some of it's own equipment.

The only cost I should have with this job is time. I suspect Matt is about right at the 10 to 20 hours.

  12. This may be a bit of a loaded question.

I have been asked to shoot some photos of 6 to 7 children, modelling dresses

for a local dress shop. The pictures are for their new website. These will be

taken on site (indoors or out not known yet). Suspect it would be a Saturday

shooting, with a week or so to touchup in photoshop.

I would be releasing all copyrights to the dress shop.

What would be a ball park charge for something like this in your area?

    Mike

  13. I am assuming this is something with my camera.

I am currently saving all photos as RAW & JPG on my Canon30D. When I check them

in Adobe Bridge CS3, the RAW file has a slight yellow ting to it, and the JPG

is a bit more to the pink/red side. I believe the JPG is closer to the actual

color when the photo was taken, but have been unable to do a controlled test to

    verify.

    Has anyone seen this before?

    Is this normal?

  14. In the whole new member issue, might it be possible to add a requirement for comment on a 3 or less?

(Or you could simply put a check box on my account with the caption "Remember the last time?")

Yes, I am a bit disappointed with the ratings on one of my last photos. If only someone had explained why they thought it was a 3/3, I would have been content with the rating.

(Sorry for the rant, forgot last night, requested rating, mom saw the results.... http://www.photo.net/photodb/ratings-breakdown?photo_id=6970476)

  15. Would someone know where I can find either the calculations for Aperture DOF or

    a chart of some sort?

I have been asked by a friend, to shoot some of the dresses his wife's shop has

made. I am trying to identify what the minimum space I will need for shooting

the dresses in sharp detail, with background blur being a bonus.

    Bit of background info:

    Camera is a 30D with a 50mm f1.8

Models are between 5'2" and 5'8"

    Thank you,

    Mike

  16. I have a close friend of mine, of whom I will be doing some glamour shots of. I

am hoping to show some midriff in some of the shots.

My problem is she is extremely self-conscience of the stretch marks from giving

    birth.

    Any recommendations?

Is there any angle or lighting style I should watch out for? I hope to do as

little Photoshop work as possible, as my experience is very limited.

    Thank you,

  17. Thank you for the replies.

I guess I should have mentioned that I am using a Canon 30D.

Mark: The off Camera Shoe cable is going to be purchased right along side flash.

The master option of both the sigma and the 580 are a nice to have, as I will in the future, be looking at adding some sort of strobes to my equipment.

As for the type of photos I will be using it for, I will mainly be using it for fill flash for portraits shots, and indoor/night shots.

  18. After using a fairly old flash unit (Starblitz 3200-BTZ), I am now in the

market for a replacement unit. (The cycle time and lack of controls is killing

me.) I would like to use a cable on the flash on occasion.

    The units I am considering is;

    Sigma EF500DG

    Canon 430EX

    Canon 580EX

My question is, which unit would you recommend?

    Mike
