For those of you shooting film for weddings and events, what do you
pay for 36 exposure processing and machine prints/proofs at your
custom lab?
-
fit on a Rolleiflex 2.8E as a "do it yourself" project...?
-
because I do not know any better...but just what do photographers do with photos like this (street photography)? To me, and not trying to create an issue here, unless these photos have a special meaning to the ones in the photo or the photographer why take the shot?
-
Jeff, I recently attended a wedding and used my old Rolleiflex 2.8 and Honeywell Stobonar (both 1960's vintage equipment). The pro using 35mm only, saw my equipment, complimented me and went about his business. I just stayed out of his way.
However, he did one unique thing for formals. Immediately after the ceremony, the entire wedding party returned to the altar area. With many people remaining in the sanctuary the Pro sat down in the pew, off to the side while those that wanted to take their own photos posed people and snapped away.
Meanwhile his assistant said so all could hear "In 5 minutes the formal photo session will begin, at that time the sanctuary will be closed to those not in the wedding party. Please take all the photos wish to, then step outside so we may finish. Thanks, we will see you at the reception shortly".

with my Rolleflex 2.8E, both purchased by my father almost 40 years ago, then passed down to me. As mentioned above it "works very well once you get the settings where you are pleased (for fill flash)".
Actually, I grew up using this equipment - learned the basics - and still shoot frequently with it.

Thanks again for all of your responses. The cable release with thumb screw lockdown does work. As it turns out, the full moon this week end was very bright at times, with drifting cloud cover. So I set up on a ridge overlooking a valley and bracketed from 20 seconds to 2 minutes focusing on the landscape and horizon.....
-
Thanks for the responses fellas. I inherited this camera and accessories from my Dad, and you have jogged my memory. There is a cable release in the camera bag which screws into place. It also has the thumb screw to hold the shutter open as well, so, I'll give it a try.
Any input on exposure length or film speed for star trail photos...?
Thanks again!
-
The rollei has the "B" setting for the shutter, but there is film in
the camera currently so I can't experiment, nor can I recall if that
setting can be locked in for a period of time. I will be trying for
startrail shots while on a ranch in west Texas this weekend and would
appreciate any input (regarding film, metering, and exposure length
too if you're inclined). Thanks in advance!

I am kind of on the trailing edge of the state of the art regarding newer equipment with an old Rolleiflex 2.8E and a Canon FTQL both left to me by my Dad. However, the difference in the prints are very visible. And yes, the 1.2 50mm lens for the Canon is very sharp indeed.
The price of $25 for the 16x20 sounds really good as well, and you might not notice any difference with out a 35mm and a MF print side by side to compare. But in my experience, the MF photos always look much sharper and enlargement quality is superior too.

It looked really clear and clean at the time, I just barely wiped it
off, but I did not suspect a problem then. However, I will certainly
look a lot closer at it,see if it looks changed in any way, finish
the roll that's in it and report back.
<p>
Hope everyone will heed the advice ...it sounds like it is just not
important to clean the mirror...just leave it alone or risk a problem.
<p>
Thanks

I just read an older post here about mirror cleaning. Just a few days ago I did just that on my AE1 P with a tiny drop of cleaning fluid and lense cleaning cloth, very gently..didn't scrub. But now I'm worried I made a big mistake. I guess the only way to tell is to shoot some slide film and check the results...
<p>
What are the chances it's not really damaged...? If it is, how much $$ to replace?
<p>
Thanks

Mike;
<p>
If I'm not too late here, I had the same dilema and just called Canon
and asked for a manual. They charged me $7.00 for a photo copied
manual and I received in about 2 weeks. Sorry I don't have the
number, but I think I found it on their website.
-
What are the chances....? Hope I haven't made a mistake by cleaning
the mirror on my AE1P recently. Gently using a tiny drop of lens
cleaning fluid and cleaning cloth it seemed to have cleaned up
nicely, it really sparkled. I have not finished the roll of film
that's in it yet, but will shortly...guess I will know then.

I am considering accepting wedding and portrait opportunities, down the road, utilizing camera/equipment that has been in my family for years. This, of course, after gaining more experience with a Pro that I know.
<p>
Would any of you experienced pros do weddings with the following equipment?
<p>
AE1 Program
28mm, 50mm 1.4, and 105mm Prime lenses
Honeywell Strobonar 770 with battery(2)and A/C attachments
Flash Bracket which positions the Strobe to the side
FTb QL as a back up
Gossen Pilot meter
<p>
Rolleiflex TLR 2.8E (for formals)
<p>
All is in fine working order, the Rollei is pristine, however I do not have an acceptable Tripod yet.
<p>
Or, would it be smarter to sell the FD equipment and buy an Elan 7 with a 28-105 3.5-4.5, using an old Rebel I own as a backup, buy a Stroboframe bracket and updated flash and start from there?
<p>
I am extremely familiar and comfortable with the manual set up, it's really all I know and grew up with. This was all willed to me by my Dad who was a very serious amateur photographer, tought me the basics and more, we even had a darkroom.
<p>
So, I'm just curious what you think......Thanks!!
-
Recently I found a link on the internet for a source that will supply the 1.3v mercury batteries (about $5 a piece, I believe). I am curious if anyone has ever tried a source like that, if so, did it work out...?
<p>
Thanks
-
Do any of you use your FD equipment for wedding photography? If so, what is your typical setup (camera,lenses,flash,Stroboframe?)? Do you use Medium Format for the formals or stay with the FD setup for the entire event?
<p>
Any information would be very helpful. Thanks!
-
Thanks for your anwers.
<p>
Actually the Strobonar mounts on a bracket that attaches to the
camera connecting with a cable to fire it. There are not any contact
points and I'm not sure what the voltage is. It works fine with my
FTQL and my Rolleiflex, but just not sure about the AE 1 Program yet.
-
Would anyone know if the AE1 Program is compatible with a Honeywell Strobonar 770? The strobe works fine with my FTQL. Recently I acquired the AE1 Program with 188 flash, but would like to use the Strobonar with AE1.
<p>
Thanks

The amount of credible information found here is terrific! I have learned so much more about my Rolleiflex 2.8E here and MF in general. Reading Photo.net has increased my interest and skills noticeably.
Other sites do exist, however, Photo.net is easy, fast, accurate and not cluttered with ads. I look forward to visiting here as often as I can!

I have a 1959 Rolleiflex 2.8E with a faulty light meter. It is off
by about 2 stops. Any suggestions on a reliable service
organization, preferably in Texas, or any other suggestion? I've
been told the meter is not replaceable.
Thanks.

Here in Houston, and since I am not a Pro, the cost is in the $25-30 range as well. I would guess the pros pay signicantly less in volume, no doubt. And the labs I have used do terrific work!
It gets to be frustrating (expensive)to use a pro film, shoot 36 exposures, then spend $30 to process and print. All this while trying to improve my skills as well.
