1.
Hi all,

I am buying few Pocket wizards for location shoot. I will mainly shoot in manual but i also want to take advantages of TTL so my consideration is Mini tt1 + flex tt5 + AC3. My understanding is I put AC3 on Mini tt1 and put Mini tt1 on my camera. I put my flash on flex tt5 and start shooting. I was watching videos on Pocket Wizard and it says Flex tt5 can do all the job of Mini tt1 and more ... so ..

would it be more useful to buy 2 x flex tt5 + AC3 ? The price is same here.
Can I mount AC3 on Flex tt5? I know I can mount AC3 on Mini tt1.

So what the pros and cons of buying

2 x Flex tt5 + AC3 or
1 x mini tt1 + AC3 + 1x Flex tt5.

Thanks a lot. Please don't mind my poor english.

  2.
Hi, I am thinking to buy a filter set and i am confused to choose Cokin P or Z.
I got D700 which is Full Frame, with 24-70mm FX lens 77mm diameter.
My main concern is , Will i suffer vignetting at 24mm if i use Cokin P series just to save allitte bit of money? or shall i spend abit more and buy Z pro? thanks.
for filters i will buy GNDs and NDs. and pls beware it's full frame. thanks

  3.
Hi, I am thinking to buy a tele lens for portriate and other tele works. My favourite lens is nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR2. However, the price is a problem so alternatively, I am thinking to buy Sigma(or tamerom) 70-200 f2.8 or nikon 70-300 lens. I know we can't make direct comparison to that two lens but as in term of price, this is the amount i wanna spend for a new tele lens. One more option is a used 80-200 f2.8 nikon. I been to Jacob shop and one of the staff told me that lens is old and not optimized for full frame so i might suffer from distortion and vegnetting at the cornor on my d700. is that true? and i also read about sigma 70-200 f2.8 lens has problems with autofocusing on a forum. is there anyone using the sigma lens got any problem with auto focusing?

  4.
i own 24-70 f2.8 on my d700 and it's a fantastic lens. but on your d90, your kit lens is sufficient to get nice images apart from f2.8 factor. But after investing significant amount of money on that lens, u won't get significant different then your kit lens. And 24-70 f2.8 is a general lens, not wide enough for landscaper and not tele enough for portriate and other tele works. I recommand thinking 14-24f2.8 if u want more of great landscape or 70-200 if u want to do great portriate. And u can keep your kit lens or travelling around and taking pictures as u said. sorry for my english and if my answer is not your needs.

  5.
thanks to all ,, nobody recommand me to have the softbox ,, right!... i will defo have some spare memory cards, and few spare battery,,, i don't have enough budget to get 70-200 atm but that is the one i been thinking to get once i got enough budget for a new lens as i need to do few outdoor portriate shoots during the summer as well. And i will get one SB900 soon as i will need it anyhow. Extra body?? woooooohhhh... maybe i will borrow from me friend who got a D90 with 85mm f.1.8 and 24-70 on my D700? how's that? 85mm will go over 100mm as the crop sersor on D90 .. ohh god.. laurence ,, u need to clam down,, u will be fine :P thanks guy!!

  6.
Hi all ,,,
I have been an amature photographer for few years as my hobby but now i have an appointment for my FIRST wedding shoot. Here is my current gear I already have - and i would spend some quids if it is neccessary to have nice photos in the wedding. I found lots of post similar to this but i still want personal advice to me so i made this post. thankssss.
My gear ---
D700
24-70 mm f2.8
105 mm micro
50mm f1.8D
1 x sb600 with diffisur dome, and bounce card
mb-d10 with extra battery
4 gb slow speed memory card
got a tripot but bargain quality
I got 1 shoot through umbrella with hot shoe stand
got 1 lowepro bag to fit most of my gear
I got Interfit 150 studio kit at home but it's not portable.
And i got no filters except from UV protecting filters.
She said the wedding should be small size up to 50 people (just few friends and family) at their home. Their home is worth like 1/2 million house that is big with lots of glass for day light(which i can't trust all the time) and they got a big garden at the side.
So, is my current gear is enough to have some nice pictures at the wedding?
What shall i prepare before the wedding? looking wedding pictures on the internet or playing around with my camera?
shall i upgrade to sb900 or my sb600 should be enough? or do i need both?
i am considering a softbox ,ezybox hot shoe kit, do i need that?
any filter advice or it can be achievable in photoshop ?
:P so many questions .... pls give me advice as this is my first wedding ... i am worried that i will spoil their enjoyment ... i got one assistant to help me at the wedding.. with little photography knowledge .. thankss again.

  7.
Hi,, is there any way possible to take high speed sync when the speed light is not on shoe ( on the camera).
I can do up to 320 shutter speed with nikon CLS but i want more. What if i use Sync cord, or Radio Trigger, is it possible to get more then 320 shutter speed off shoe ?
I got D700 with SB600. I know i can't use Radio Trigger with SB600, so let say i got SB900 with Radio trigger? is that possible to get more sync speed? And i also wanna use more then 1 speedlight at a time, how is it possible to do that?
thanksssssssssssss.

  8.
first of all, i wanna thanks to everybody who gave me advices and explanations.
I ended up buying 24-70 today.. i was still confusing until i got to the shop but i could make a decision when the staff said all 70-200 lens are out of the stock. LOL .. :P
Few things i forgot to mention, i also have 50 mm f1.8 D, and 105 mm micro.
I may use 105 mm micro for portriate but i do consider 85mm f1.8D for value and quality OR 105 DC f2D.
All the reviews say the new 70-200 vr2 is fantastic but as i don't do any tele,, 1600 quid is too much for me and not worth to pay that much just for head/shouder portriate (i think).
So,, my new question is , shall i use my micro lens for portriate or shall i get DC 105mm F2D ? I never have DC lens before and i don't really know the advantages of using it.. i don't really understand either. And i am thinking to sell 50mm f1.8D to make some cash to meet the expense of getting either one above (85mm, 105 DC), shall i do that as well as my new 24 70 can cover the distance and quality of 50mm f1.8D.
Thanks again to all.
PS. I do love the quality that gives me by 24-70.. Superb sharp fast lens... i think i made the right first move as it is must have one as i don't have any other wide that can cover the range of 24-70... it's not proper micro lens but as it has very short closing distance, i tried to shoot some flowers today.. i got pretty good results (inserts may be different though).

  9.
Hi everybody,,
I am getting a new lens (i got D700 body) so i am thinking to get one of the above two (24-70 f2.8 or 70-200 f2.8 VR 1). Especially I wanna do Portriate Works both indoor and outdoor. I also got a small studio room so actually 24-70 is more appripriate for me. 24 edge can give me wide angle portriate and 70 edge can give head/shoulder portriate. I don't do tele photography. However my question is why most of portraite photographer use long lens ( i saw most of portraite photographers use 70 - 200 lens or if fixed they use like 85 mm fixed) and move very further back and take the shoot. What is the advantages of using long lens and move further backward and take the shoot in Portriate photography. Is 70 mm on 24-70 lens enought for proper portriate work ? thanks.

  10.
thanks guys for your suggestions and explanations. that's fantastic.
What happened and what led to this question is I got a D90 with package lens which is 18 to 105 mm zoom dx. And i bought 105 micro (not DX) but i didn't notice the difference between DX and FX. And i bought 50 mm fixed f1.8 D lens (not DX) as i saw it on a website and the price is quite cheap so i went for it. Ohh. before i bought it i tried to find out the distance with my package lens. I put the focal lenght to 50 and tried to shoot few photos in my home studio for some portriate shoots. That's all fine. So i bought the lens (50 mm lens). And i found out images are abit closer then when i tried with my package lens at 50 mm zoom. As my home studio is just built in a small room of my house so i can't get back enough to fit the person enough. So that was when i started asked this question.
One more mistake i made about this lens is, it said f1.8 but the images are too sharp for a f1.8 lens. I should have bought f1.4 50 mm for abit more money. Well, the price is double here between that two lenses.
Thanks guys , your explanations and comparisons between Fx and Dx cameras and things are really great. c ya around.

  11.
thanks Dennis for your explanation. That really helps.
Thanks douglas for your correction for my mis-usage.
Now it's all clear. As u can see i m a beginner to photography and own a D90 and now i m collecting lens but i want to collect lens that can use on FX camera like D700 or D3 coz i may be upgrade to one of those cameras later time, so i can keep all my lenses.
Thanks again guys.

  12.
Hi,,,
I know there are many image sersor format eg. DX format , FX format which i believe is 35mm or there are larger image sensor. Here, i just want to concentrate on Nikon's DX and FX format. I was trying to find out how the focal length differs by using different types of cameras with a lens. I will make it simple. For example, Nikkor 50mm AF f1.4 lens, if i use that lens on DX format camera, the focal length 50 mm become 75 mm. (or is equalvalent to) Is that correct? so if i use 105 mm lens (which is not DX lens) to a DX format camera (eg. D90, D300, etc ) what is the focal length i can get will be? How to calculate those ratio? or can i have that in a table comparing all the different focal length for DX and FX? thanks. PS. i tried to find that on google but now i got headache so i finally try to post the question :P. thanks again.

  13. Thanks to Garry and Devon for your advice.

As i said I bought the Interfit 150 Mark 2 studio lighting kit today. And as the shop adviced me, I also bought one radio trigger with the kit. But when i actually set up my lighiting, the interfit lights fire when they see a flash light. It's not about the commander mode in my camera, they fire even i press test flash button on my speedlight or when they see the builtin flash from my camera. They also fire when i use my builtin flash as a commander with the speedlight.

So i got confused. Does that mean I don't need to use the radio trigger? Can i refund it? or i don't know. Once again, thanks alot for your help-s and if u got some spare time, pls explain me more. ;)

(PS. I don't worry about the built in flash will effect on the object, i can cover with my hand or i can set it to Manual 128/1 so it won't effect on the object that much)

  14.
hello everybody,
i am a newby to lighting.. currently i got Nikon D90 and SB600 Speedlight. I often use SB600 as a remote flash by setting the builtin flash as a commander. Now i am thinking to buy a starter studio lighting kit. I found Interfit INT182 EX150 Mark II Two Head Kit for 200 Pound. I read few reviews and not bad for a beginner like me coz i also got limited budget.
My question is can I use Interfit INT182 EX150 Mark II Two Head Kit with my D90, setting my D90's builtin flash as a commander, working together with my SB600. Or is that Interfit kit is a continues lighting ? so i don';t need to worry about how to triger the Kit wirelessly.Or what else i need to use the interfit kit with my D90 to have Wireless ability. I do Not have a Infrared Unit like SU800.
My second question, one more thing i can think is , if i buy a sort of Strobist kit (assuming an umbrella and a softbox to use with speedlight units) and one more SB600 unit (or may be SB900). So that i can get more flexibliity , meaning that i can take those to shoot outdoor photography when i need additional lighting without AC power. what is the quality different using multiple flash units or using studio lighting kit?
Pls advice me what should i do and my options. I wanna spend less then 300 quids. My main purpose is to practise portriate photography with some lighting (mainly indoor). I am sorry if my questions may look stupid to u. thanks.
