Its been a while since I've posted, but I was able to capture this
eagle launching off a perch during a airboat trip through the central
Florida everglades right after Christmas. I took the photo in color,
but I liked the branch and eagle shape flows that the B&W
emphasizes. Thoughts?

Please take a look at the series,I am interested in feedback on which
photo you like the best. Thanks!!
I had been planning for months a trip to Norther Alaska, past the
Arctic Circle on the Dalton highway to experience and photograph the
Aurora Borealis, directly under the aurora band. I had chosen the week
of March 21st for several reasons. The first was related to having a
new moon so the sky would be the darkest, and the aurora the brightest.
The second was the month of March 21st, which is spring equinox and
one of the 2 peak months of the year, and finally the year 2012 which
is a period of increased solar activity in the sun's 11 year cycle.
The Road over the Dalton highway was an adventure in itself, passing
through amazing mountains and arctic plains. The journey from
Fairbanks to North of Coldfoot took about 7 hours. We parked at the
bottom of Atigun Pass area surrounded by mountains which included the
Brooks Range. We got to our look out point around 9 pm. The experts
say the best viewing time is midnight +-2 hrs. We waited for several
hours and became concerned we were not going to see anything. Around
1215am, 23 March the sky exploded. It started with red and green glows
above the mountain range, and soon the Aurora arched completely across
the sky from end to another.
What Aurora pictures never capture is the movement of the Aurora
across the sky. The lights move in waves, shimmers, pulses, and
ripples. My friend and I were so excited about what we were seeing we
forgot for a while about the -27 deg F. temperature. Something else
that was spectacular seeing was the reds/pink colors in the lights
which is not typical. The light colors are based upon what gases the
solar winds are interacting with in the atmosphere. The red colors are
created higher up in the earths atmosphere.
Eventually after taking lots of pictures, standing in awe of the event
we began to freeze (fingers) and the camera starting freezing up.
It will remain one of the most amazing natural spectacles I have ever
seen..

Bears hiding in the tall grass of Cades Cove, in the Smokey Mountain

On a way up to a hike, in the Ozarks, I had to stop and watch as the
clouds and fog burned away as the sun rose over the Ozark hills.

Beautiful place. Not knowing what is to the left, and the depth of the water, I agree with Stephen in that I would go for a longer shutter speed.
You might also try wading out into the water, setup your tripod, and focus on the white foam/streaks in the water. I've had some cool waterfall shots where those water streaks making really interesting paterns.
I would also change the time of day for the shoot, maybe early or late day to get a little more interesting lighting in the scene.

I took this hiking up Richland Creek, in the Ozarks this fall. The
sun was filtering through the valley, and made for an amazing morning.

Small section of the Wave in early morning light

The Wave is a pretty frequented location anymore, and I tried to find something a little different to shoot. There was nice morning light coming through this area.

Beautiful Capture. Well Done

This was the very end of a beautiful Florida Keys Sunset. We were
only there for the evening, but were treated to one of the most
amazing sunsets I have ever seen.

Saturday morning at the Kennedy Space Center, at 0707am. Atlas 5
launch and sunrise of the Turn Basin. Was interested in which of the
2 photos in the series are the best?

Went on a recent trip to Blue Springs Florida, and had the opportunity
catch these guys lined up.

I recently got back from Maui, and did a little water fall hiking
along the road to Hana. This beautiful falls was a .2 mile hike from
the road. It did require some bouldering and stream hiking, but was
worth this view.
I was the only one here the entire time. Many tourist don't take the
time to get off the beaten track a little, and miss amazing stuff. I
have another shot at the base of the falls with the large green
boulder, but it doesn't capture the canyon was well.
Comments and feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

I was watching the lava flow pour into the ocean on the big Island of
Hawaii, and was treated to several of these water spouts forming in
front of the the flow.

Not much more to say than Amazing.
Well done!!!

I've been to this secluded falls here in Arkansas but never with both
falls flowing and with decent light. I hiked in early after last
weeks rain and got the shot I have been looking for.

This is one of my favorite waterfalls in Arkansas. It is a small
canyon tucked away in Cecil Creek area around, Erbie. I have never
been able to adequately capture the magic of this small canyon and
waterfall, and I keep returning every year to discover this place again.
Because it is in a narrow canyon, the lighting is extremely difficult.
Either it is to bright, or completely dark. Yesterday when I took
this it was evening and partly cloudy.

Rare Snow fall in the Ozarks

With the unusual cold snap and snow storm in Arkansas two weeks ago, I
made a quick trip to Petit Jean Falls, and captured the falls roaring
with snow melt, and the last of the snow on some of the moss covered
rocks. Comments welcomed.

Made a quick trip through Yellowstone last month. I had a difficult
time capturing it. I liked this reflection that I ended up converting
to B&W. Does it work? I don't play around with back and white to
much and would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks
Florida Lightning - Cape Canaveral
in Landscape
Posted
I went out to photograph the Friday the 13th moon a couple weeks
ago from a Cape Canaveral, FL beach but instead had cloudy skies
that blocked the moonrise. Instead I tried long exposures to capture
the lightning storm that was moving in.
