  1. I used to live in Asheville, NC. Yes, the Blue Ridge Parkway is where you want to head. If it does happen to be closed due to snow problems check out highway 215 (it goes up into the mountains from Candler, NC) It eventually come out onto the Parkway. There are some beutiful creeks along that route. Also, if you are interested in hiking a bit, get a decent map and check out the shining rock wilderness. There there is Shining Rock, (basically just pure white rock on the top of a ridge) If you are interested in B&W photography they could be an interesting subject.
  2. I am a student of Mass Communications and just happened to find your forum. I am writing a research paper on the ethics of digital manipulation. I hear a lot of people say that this or that SHOULD happen. As photographers are we ready for the government to step in and say "ALL DIGITALLY MANIPULATED PHOTOGRAPHS MUST BE LABLED." That is what they do in Norway. They use a special symbol that is slapped on each one. A filter changes the 'original' picture, where do we draw the line? (Sorry if I wandered to far from the original question)
  3. My understanding is that this happens whenever the moon is low in the sky and near objects to objects that our brain knows the size of. It is completely fooling your mind that you are seeing it large. It hasn't been distorted by the atmosphere or anything and if you somehow measured it when it moved up higher in the sky and looks smaller, it's actually the same.
