1.
Twice now I have lost the use of my D300 autofocus assist light. I believe, both times while engaging in shooting with off camera Nikon flashes. SB 900 & SB 600's.
After checking the menu and finding that the light was in fact turned on, the only way I could get it working again was to hit the two buttons together is move the menu back to default. All was normal after that and shooting resumed with the same flash settings.
Anyone have any ideas as to what is happening and a final fix?

  2. Mac user here. Geoff, iPhoto converts your RAW images JPG when you rotate them. Actually

any adjustment in iPhoto will cause automatic conversion to JPG.

Are you using only iPhoto for you RAW adjustments? If so, don't rotate until you do your

color corrections & etc. If your using PS or other just drag them out of iPhoto into your

    software, then rotate and adjust.

The original RAW file will still be in the Finder/Pictures/iPhoto Libary/Originals/2007

    Good hunting

  3. I'm a Mac PowerBook user with a Nikon D70s, 6 lenses, two flashes and three film Nikons.

    I use iPhoto.

I use Photoshop CS2 to adjust my images. Sometimes using Bridge. Right now I'm

downloading my RAW into iPhoto for full screen viewing, then dragging one photo to PS

for needed work. I'll save the corrected photos in a desktop folder. When done with my

"roll" I'll delete it from iPhoto, then re-insert the corrected photos back to iPhoto. This

seems the smoothest way to view full screen, classify, adjust and display my photos.

I know two digital professionals who use Aperture, both told me not to bother with it.

  4. Hey, you have a very good set up there now with your 70 and 18 - 70 lens. Add a polarizer

and tripod and your good to go.

After you get the feel of using the digital camera and see what your requiring.. then ask

which equipment to buy. Don't hurry to spend your money.

  5. I love my Lowepro SlingShot 100. It fits on your back, out of the way, your able to ride bikes,

hike and clear narrow aisles on airlines etc. It will hold my slr med zoom attached and two

other small prime lens. Filters, charger and memory cards also.

  6. Marlene, first make a new folder in your computer for downloading your photos into.

Download from your Nikon using the USB cable into this folder.

Then open the CS2 Bridge software and set it to this new folder that you just made. View

your photos in Bridge. When you find one that you like double click on it and that will send

    it to Photoshop.

Read each new Photoshop window that pops up, it will explain what is happening and what

    you need to do.

Good Luck, feel free to email me if you need more info.

  7. One must remember these days that there are "manufactures" and "repair facilities". These

entities are a totally different form of business. The repair end may often be a contractor.

The problem arises that the manufacture already has your money, and the repair facility can

be overwhelmed and without incentives to do repairs quickly.

I waste too much money myself, but I have learned that if it breaks get rid of it. It's just easier

to deal with spending money than wondering if it well ever be "right".

  8. "some of the pictures are black along the bottom."

Is the black line running across your pictures straight or irregular?

Is your mirror going all the way UP? Do a test with out a lens and watch it a slow speed at

    f2.8 or so..

  9. I'm needing to know what type of glue to use to reattach one end of the leatherette covering

on the body. Also what would you use to clean off the hard glue that's underneath. (someone

may of tried to reattach it once and now the glue is crystalized??)

    Thanks for your help.

  10. 1. Download your RAW files to iPhoto, if you have one of the newer versions. I'm using 5.

    2. Drag, your RAW file to the desk top. (you'll always have the original in iPhoto.)

    3. From PS open file that is on the desktop it will remain as a .NEF file.

  11. You missed my point. Apple computers have the inherent ability built in to view RAW. You

don't have to go out and acquire software to do so. New or Older Apple's will work with RAW.

I was talking to a tech at the Apple store today, telling him of people who where having

trouble getting RAW to load in their Photoshop. This tech said if they would download into

iPhoto, then open PS and get the image from there, it would work that way.

My comments are directed to people who are having troubles dealing with computers.

  12. I see questions from people who can't view RAW or NEF files on their computers.

I'm using a Apple Powerbook G4, three or four generations older than the current laptops.

With this older computer I can view RAW and NEF files with two (2) different Apple programs

that came with the computer. ( iPhoto & Preview )

I just telling you this so you may have some insight for when you set your sights on a new

    computer.

  13. I would position a camera on my body to where my body weight would be less likely to hurt

the camera during a fall. I'm thinking the stomach area would be the best to protect both me

and the camera, away from bones. Maybe add additional foam/bubble wrap to the inside of

    the bag.

  14. I'm not into making anyone mad here, I understand everyone is on a budget.. feed your

    family first.

I hem hauled around over the 50 & 70 also. But, when I saw and felt the 50, I knew I wanted

the 70. I have not been disappointed. For near $1000 a Nikon should feel and look better

    than a Fujifilm FinePix S9000

  15. Search Photonet & eBay for the prices,,they will be there.

While there look for a lens. See what is selling and for how much.

You wanting one lens to do everything. That is a tall order for quality.

    Personally I would look at the 1.8 - 2.8 lenses (20 or 24mm, 50mm and then a 105mm)

Thus using your money for quality. You can buy as you have the cash to do so. The fast

zooms are so expensive. I would probably keep the Tamron for the 300, unless you can

get hundreds of dollars for it. Don't just sell it for cheap.
