1.
It is defective because the cone is too short, being not on specs.
This has been acknowledged in writing by both Paul Droluk and the dealer.
The cone is part of a defective batch, it should be replaced or refunded.
As it cannot be replaced because there is no availability, it should be refunded.
I don't know why this is so difficult to understand.

"As previously explained, we no longer have the correct Cone Assembly available. As you did not acquire the Cone Assembly from us directly, we can not accept a return directly. Any further transaction must go through the dealer... we will honor our commitment to the dealer, and accept a return from them ."
But the dealer won't honor his commitment to the buyer.

  2.
His reply :
"Hallo
It is clear that the depth of field on this lens will not cause any problems when used correctly.

It is also clear that your photography project has finished and you are also trying to minimize
your costs by claiming this refund.

I would suggest you sell it.

Best rgds"

In a word, he sold me a defective cone and suggest I resell, lying my way to the cheque book of some one else as he he did with me.
Nice character indeed. Cannot even figure out someone could have principles.

  3.
To be clear :
#1 Paul Droluk replied, but the dealer did not.
# 2 I know Fotoman closed business 7 months ago.
# 3 About Toyota. If a dealer sells me a defective car and won't repair/replace it, honouring its T & C, I call "Tokyo".
# 4 The cone is defective (cut is too shallow for the lens). It cannot be replaced (see # 2).
# 5 If I feel like selling it and keep the 90 XL to mount it on another cone/camera, I cannot.

  4.
I bought a Fotoman PS 45 from a registered Fotoman dealer.
Camera was sold with a 90 XL cone.
After some tests, it appeared the cone is too short.
Reply from Paul Droluk : we had a batch of cones which
were not on specs indeed, but it should not affect shooting.
Right, but it affects my ability to sell the gear if necessary,
the cone being non sellable as it is.
Paul Droluk advised to contact the seller and return the cone
to him.
I did contact the seller.
5 times.
Without any reply.

  5.
Now I have a small problem.
I mounted my 90 XL on a new 90 cone by Fotoman, provided by a Fotoman retailer.
When the lens is mounted (properly, it seems), I cannot turn the helical mount further
than somewhere between 2 m and 1,5. I cannot go right to 1,1 m, which is the minimum
focus distance. In fact, the rear element cannot move beyond, not having enough room
inside the cone to go all the way.
What am I missing here ?
Lens is very recent and cone is new.

  6.
Apart portrait in 4x5, I don't easily get the interest of a long lens (namely 180)
for panoramics (617).
I found an interesting thread on Luminous Landscape stating that it allowed
nice interplay between foreground and middle-ground, but what's more to it ?

  7.
Thank you, Paul.
I'm all the more puzzled, because your specs sheet for Fotoman 617 indicate
that the Super Angulon XL needs two spacers, and not just one.
In fact, I have the 90 XL and I need to understand if the 617 + Super Angulon classic
cone will be compatible.
Regards
JF

  8.
My dealer tells me Fotoman 617 cones for Schneider 90 6.8 and 90 5.6 XL are the same.

I'm not so sure.

Has anyone the exact reply ?

Thanks to all

  9.
I've been there first (www.schneideroptics.com). Never found the reply, either in Filter or XL Lenses.
Apparently Adorama has two different references for 72 mm and 90 mm XL Center filters,
but I'm not sure though because both are 95 mm diameter.

  10. We are in a project with a wealthy friend who is selling his art collection.

Apart the catalogue shooting (which is done by the auctioneer), I proposed to do

a series of pictures, at his place, for a book project with a publisher in Paris.

First, I do it mostly for fun.

Then, we'll have to discuss two aspects :

    1. Property of images

    2. Publishing of the book.

Regarding # 2, it's relatively easy, I'm used to work for publishers.

Regarding # 1, my friend told me they bought previous pictures made by another

photographer some years ago, so they have entire property of these images.

I don't want to follow suit, at least for some of my images, which I intend

to sell as prints ? or to magazines.

Before talking to my lawyer for advice, any of you have some ideas ?

  11. Hi,

    I'm in Brussels.

Profoto is quite expensive in Europe, much less in the US, due to the dollar.

Same equipment bought from BH Photo video cost 35% less.

Question : would you buy a Profoto Compact 600 Kit plus accessories from BH ?

I mean, I bought other gear from them, I trust them.

Question is more : if any problem, how warranty applies etc. ?

    Your advice ?
